Bill, Thanks for the sites, I have been to the Hunterian Museum site at Glasgow and it makes for some fascinating reading, I really appreciate your help. Will check the other sites also. Sandra Hunter Delong
There seem to have been a few notes on how this should be done. The advice going around is mostly correct, but I would like to add to it... - send messages to subscribe, or unsubscribe, to HUNTER-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM - if you wish to subscribe / unsubscribe to the digest version , it becomes HUNTER-D- REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM - the appropriate word (SUBSCRIBE / UNSUBSCRIBE ) should be the first thing in the BODY of the note. Here are some lesser known things: - put as little as possible in the subject line. - NEVER allow the subject line to contain "Re:", your subscription request will be ignored - put as little extra in the body of the note as possible. It is a machine trying to figure out the intent of the note, why give it an excuse to be confused. This includes AUTOMATIC SIGNATURE lines. - check the SPELLING of SUBSCRIBE or UNSUBSCRIBE (doesn't matter if it is lower case or upper case) To address an email privately to the List Admin of any ROOTSWEB list, you can send it to: (listname)-ADMIN@ROOTSWEB.COM Therefore, you can reach me at HUNTER-ADMIN@ROOTSWEB.COM Ron Cushman HUNTER list admin. ----- With Reference to: ---- Date: Thu, 4 Oct 2001 21:31:40 EDT From: xxxxx@xxxxxx.xxx To: HUNTER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [HUNTER-L] To unsubscribe Unsuscribe Ron's Internet Genealogy Ron Cushman ('Budding' professional genealogist <G>) net-genealogy@home.com
Sandy here are a couple of websites for you. 1. www.hunterian.gla.ac.uk/ Site of the Hunterian museum at the University of Glascow founded by William . 2. www.umanitobia.ca/faculties/medicine/units/history/lesion/lesion6.html History of Dr. John Hunter. I have received the paper I was waiting on. He was born 1728 and was the youngest of ten children, most died in early age. His father's name is also John Hunter. He has a brother who was also a famous Anatomist and his name is William Hunter. I bought a book the other day and it discussed John and William but I was not sure it was my John until now. William Hunter was born in 1718 and in 1741 he went to London. I haven't figured it all out yet but I am having a blast. Thank you Sandra Delong Hunter
I am interested in hearing from anyone with Hunters, Davidson or Fletchers of Old Monkland, Lanark, Scotland, Late 1700's, 1800's >From family oral history, apparently David Livingstone (African explorer) his mother was Agnes Hunter is said to be related to our hunter line. Liz. Sure can't help at this time. Chris
Thanks, Dave. I'll keep an eye out and keep you in mind. Interestingly, my gg-grandmother was Margaret Hamilton and my gg-grandfather was Nathaniel Hunter. She was born in Ballybay, Co. Monaghan. Funny how the families keep finding each other and intermarrying. All the best, Joan P.S. I was looking at the Flax Growers Bounty List and knowing the affinity that the Hunters seemed to have of using the same forenames in each generation, I looked at your family names and grouped them by area of Co. Tyrone. Don't know if you've already done this, but if not, may help. I think any text on Medical History, particularly early anatomical studies, would produce info on John Hunter the early anatomist. Charles Severs
I started "hunter"-ing around and found a site that mentioned the Walter Hunter book called "Hunters of Bedford County, Virginia." Hopefully, this may help someone. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~sroots/scotire.htm
Dear Dave and listers, Although I cannot connect into your HUNTER family at the moment, I am researching the family of Robert HUNTER, guessed to be born around 1818. My Elizabeth HUNTER, Robert's daughter, was born in Tempo, Fermanagh, which is close to the Tyrone border, and her elder brother actually married in Tyrone. I believe the family were traders in eggs and butter but have no proof. The HAMILTON name appears in the children of William Edward LAMB and remains in every generation until the present day. A Hamilton HUNTER was married in Fermanagh in 1847 and shares the same townland as a Robert HUNTER in the 1863 Griffiths Valuation of Ireland in Fermanagh. Chris: Do you happen to know anything on a John Hunter who was born in Ky around 1813 and moved to AL between 1870 and 80. He married Margaret_________-? They came through GA. Margaret was from Scottish decent. Thanks Liz

Found your information and was interested in both the Hunter and Hamilton links. Did any of your Hamiltons live in Perry Co., OH? And did any of your Hunter group live in IN? Thanks for sharing your information. For what it is worth, I have a Rachel Hunter marrying a William Hamilton in 1808, Speedwell, Claiborne, Tennessee. Rachel is the daughter of Henry Hunter, and the grand-daughter of John Hunter, born Johann Jaeger from Arisdorf, Basal-land, Switzerland. I show 14 children. The family moved to Millville in Lincoln County, TN. Some of Rachel's siblings moved to and through Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, etc. . Thanks Sandra for sending the dates of your Hunter family. I have not tracked my Hunters into TX as yet but will keep your information on hand for reference. Kay
I wish I knew where and when he did his studies, I have no time frame on him. I hope to soon find out all about him as a lister saw my post and remembered reading about it. I am so excited I can hardly wait for it to get here and I so hope it is the right one. I never knew how many people had the same names until I started searching my family. Thank you to all as I really didn't mean to offend anyone. Sandra Hunter Delong
