Heather, My grandmother was born in Kansas. Her name was Susan B. Hunter. Her father Was William Hunter, he was born in Ohio. He had a brother named Robert. Their parents were Martha Kinkead and James Hunter. She was born in England and he was born in Ireland. Don't have any place names and no dates except that my grandmother was born about 1886. Do you know the county where your grandmother was born? You could try a search on the county records. Sid Quinn
Dear Sid, Sorry Sid, at this time, I don't know more than what is stated on my great grandmother Della's death records (she died in California in 1979). I am just starting the research on my Hunter side of the family, so my next step is to obtain a copy of her social security application. However, she applied in Washington State and I am not sure if that is going to produce where in Kansas she was born, but it should give me the names of her parents in which I do not know who they are at this time. I only found out who her siblings were through my grandmother rooting through a box to find an address book she had kept from the 1950's to refresh her memory!!! God love pack rats! I will keep your email and write once I receive the application. Thank you for replying! ~Heather SidQuinn@aol.com wrote: Heather, My grandmother was born in Kansas. Her name was Susan B. Hunter. Barbara, Thank you for your response. I have just started looking into the Hunter side of my family and my next step is to obtain a copy of my GGmother Della's Social Security card application, which should tell who her parents are. Once I receive the information, I will write you again. ~Heather lachance <lachance@ccis.com> wrote: > Barbara, > I am looking up information on my GGmother Della Viola Hunter and the only > thing I know is that she was born in Kansas on 09/12/1888 and her siblings were > Nellie, Bernice, and Elsie, Forrest, and Lyle. Loretta, Do you have any information on William and Sarah's son, William, age 19? It's a stab in the dark with all the Williams around, but worth the shot! He would have been about the right age for the William I am looking for. Thanks for your speedy response! Penny
Penny: This is the family of William and Sarah (Freke) Hunter as it appeared on the 1851 census of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England, with the exception of the youngest child (Silas) who was born in 1853 in Knox County, Ohio: HUNTER William 42 Stone Mason Bilton Sarah 37 Bilton Gloucestershire William 19 Coal Miner Bilton Joseph 17 Errand Boy Bilton John 12 Errand Boy Cheltenham Jane 9 Scholar Bilton Henry Scholar 6 Bilton Timothy 3 Bilton Samuel 3m Cheltenham Please note that the census gives birthplace of William and Sarah, as well as some of the children, as "Bilton" which was a transcription error and should be "Bitton". The family settled in Gambier, Knox County, Ohio, where William & Sarah are buried in Oak Grove Cemetary. I will be happy to send further information on the childen if this relates to your Hunters. Loretta
Loretta: The birth date I have for Samuel Rodman Hunter is Jan 23, 1829... and since his siblings appear to have been born in Bucks Co., Pa. Middletown, or close by, he was most likely born there as well. There were many Hunter families in PA... no doubt some were related, brothers, etc... maybe there is a connection someplace... will keep your email. Thanks, and if you find anything would be happy to hear from you. Sandi/CA
June, My grandmother was Vister Hunter born September 25, 1891. She married J.D. Delaney in Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, TX in 1911. She had a twin sister named Viola. I have been trying to locate their parents, but having great difficulty as they were living with a Culpepper family in 1900 and 1910 Census. Can you make any connection? Thanks, Linda
Loretta, Do you have any information on William and Sarah's children? My gggrandparents were also William and Sarah, however her last name is questionable. I've been unable to find anything on them. I descend from my William and Sarah through George Louis Hunter, m. Molly/Mary Ida Bishop (my ggrandparents); French Rice Hunter, b. 1900 in W.Va, m. Anna Reffitt (my grandparents); Virginia Hunter, b. 1926, m. Wayne Griffith (my parents) Any help would be appreciated. Penny Griffith McConnell
I, too, have some HUNTER's in PA. Mine were in Venango, Warren, and Erie Counties. I found a family which I think is mine on an 1850 census: William HUNTER + Jane UNKNOWN -- Thomas A. b. 1836 + Lucy BARBER -- Jared Ware b. 1838 + Almina Maria WALKER -- William b. ca. 1840 -- Mary b. ca. 1841 -- Elizabeth b. ca. 1845 -- Emeline b. ca. 1847 -- Ellen b. ca. 1850 The reason I think this is my family is because of the first two boys, Thomas A. HUNTER (my ggrandfather) and Jared Ware HUNTER. I have both names in my family, both of these people ending up in Blaine, Whatcom Co., WA in the mid to late 1890's. While Thomas was in ill health and apparently had nothing to do with the shingle mill that Jared started in Blaine, his wife Lucy, and all of his sons were heavily involved in its operation. It seems just too much of a coinsidence that there should be two Jared Ware HUNTER's closely connected to a Thomas A. HUNTER from the same area from which I know he came. Before leaving PA Thomas and Lucy raised 6 children in the Warren and Erie Counties area, living in Union City, Erie Co. for most of that time. Jared seems to have spent a lot of time in Venango Co. before leaving PA. I have the lives of these two brothers pretty well nailed down from 1863 to their deaths in the latter part of the 1890's and early 1900's. It's the time BEFORE 1863 which is giving me the headache! As for the other HUNTER siblings, I have no idea what became of them. I'm at a dead end there and also can't seem to find the surname of William Srs. wife Jane. I know there was one William HUNTER who married a Jane CARRE, but this does not seem to be my family, as the names and places I've found on them do not match up. I am searching for information on the following Hunter (s) found in the 1850 Census Monroe, Orange County, New York Henry Hunter age 37 Farmer Matilda Hunter age 63 (Henry's mother ???) Elizabeth Hunter age 17 Henrietta Hunter age 16 Catherine Hunter age 13 Martha Hunter age 8 Ira Hunter age 3 James Hull age 26 all born New York State Elizabeth Hunter married James N. Hull December 1850. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Sandi: You really have my curiousity stirred by Samuel Rodman Hunter as I have always suspected some early Hunters were in some way connected to my gggrandparents - William and Sarah (Freke) Hunter who came to Knox County, Ohio, between 1851 census of Gloucestershire and 1853 when the youngest child was born in Knox County. Sarah (Freke) Hunter was the daughter of Constantine Freke and Jane Peasley. Constantine was the son of William Freke (Freake) and Mary Rodman. The Freke and Hunters (my line) were all born in Bitton, St. Marys area of southern Gloucestershire, England. My Hunters were intermarried with the Simpson line who settled in Knox County (area of Danville) having come from Northumberland County, Pa. Possible we may have a connection? I do not have documentation of this information with the exception of a birth certificate for one of the children of William and Sarah Hunter who was born in Cheltenham, Gls. I was on a mailing list in England and found that the family records are with the Bristol and Avon Family History Society but due to family health issues I have not checked this out. My apologies to the list for this lengthy post. Loretta in Ohio
Hi everyone... with all this talk about PA Hunters I thought that maybe some of you would know something about the Hunter family that was in Etna, Allegheny County, PA. My ggggrandfather was Joseph D. Hunter (b 1812, d. 1858), son of Joseph and Mary Hunter... he was married to Catherine Boyer. They had 7 children- John S, Matthew C, Henry W, James G, Joseph D Jr, William H, and Mary E. Joseph D. Jr was my gggrandfather (b. 1847, d. 1912) He married Martha E. Taylor and they had 4 children... Oliver E.C., Mabel E. T., Joseph C. W., and Mary C. Oliver was my great grandfather, born in 1880, died 1954. He was married to Louise Bratschie in 1907. Any names in this line sound familiar to anyone? I don't know much of anything behind Joseph D. Jr and Catherine Boyer... I've heard that the family came from New Jersey to PA prior to 1812 when my ggggrandfather was born... but I've also heard that they came from Scotland... I don't know which is true. Perhaps they came from Scotland to NJ then PA? If anyone knows anything that might be helpful, I would really appreciate it. I've reached a dead end. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks! ~Ed Hunter __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send FREE video emails in Yahoo! Mail! http://promo.yahoo.com/videomail/
Terence: I noticed your list of Hunter males from PA and Aaron was one of them. I am searching for an Aaron b. 1800 in NJ but have found him in 1830 Beaver Co., PA with family. He is again listed in 1840 through 1880 in IN. He died in 1888 in Franklin Co., IN. Would love to share information on this Hunter lineage.
