The above is a list of the families which we know for sure had ties in early East Tennessee and the ones we have some information on. However, ALL surnames are welcome to attend whether your name is listed here or not! There will be a wealth of information to share. Plan on attending please! We Do Need A Head Count though as to NOT overbook the Park. (Numbers of persons coming that is what needed). We would love to have volunteers for some of the surnames on the list to act as co-hosts/co-hostesses to greet and help people with their surname, to be made to feel welcome and to help them meet researchers working on the same surnames. We want everyone to have fun, feel welcomed, and enjoy themselves. **That's What Tennessee Stands For: THE VOLUNTEER STATE ** "Where pride walks and the flag flies!"** We know that we have some college instructors attending who perhaps can be persuaded to speak about history/genealogy. We also have experts and accredited genealogist who have been researching for 30 plus years. They are ready to share their information with us. ---------------------- Attendance is FREE . . . but we will have a "donation" jar to offset the cost for using the campground, tableware, entertainment, and clean up. ---------------------- PLEASE PLAN ON ATTENDING AND BRING: 1. First and foremost yourselves... 2. ALL BOOKS, BIBLES, PICTURES, FAMILY SHEETS, AND INFORMATION YOU HAVE AVAILABLE... 3. A covered dish to share. Drinks, ice chest 5. A chair or blanket to sit on...If you are serving as a host or hostess, you will also need a small table (card table size or larger) to display your family information on. -------------------------- Last year was our first attempt to pull all these early settlers' descendants together. As far as we knew, it had never been attempted before. It was a resounding success for a first attempt, and it was agreed that it should become an annual event. This area is so very rich in history, both as an Indian frontier and as an isolated jewel of Union sympathy during the Civil War. It also served as a departure point for westward movement and new settlement. Our ancestors left us a rich heritage, which we are striving to preserve and pass on to our children and grandchildren. This rich tapestry of ideals and values is what made us a great nation and what made each of us what we are today. And it began with our earliest immigrant ancestors who came here to start a new life and a new country. COME and SHARE that heritage with us on July 13-14. Hi Holly, I am in Kansas City, but with my loftier idealism, I am trying to find out how I can be of help to those looking for people in Missouri without overburdoning myself. I travel a lot throughout the state and I think that your best bet is to try to find out about Daniel through local church affiliations in the town of Versailles. Unfortunately, Versailles isn't on of the cities I've had the oportunity to see. I saw that someone's response to your request is to do a look up the the online phone directories, but there are still a small percentage of very rural parts in Missouri in which some residents have not upgraded their homes from the turn of the centry and still, usually by choice, don't have running water and electricity, much less a phone. And some small towns still have party lines. I will still keep Daniel in mind and see what I can come up with. ~Heather Holly <holly@marylandlife.org> wrote: Hi, Heather! But when I saw it there, it said he was the son of a Floyd Sharples Hunter and (I think) Tamar Burris. Since then I have found no definite information on Daniel Lynn Hunter. I have found information on the man who was listed as the father in the Ancestry.com database. Floyd Sharples Hunter was born in 1904 in Missouri. His parents were William Klebber Hunter and Eliza Jane Sharples Hunter. Floyd was born in Morgan County, and I believe he died there. Thank you very much for your offer to help. A lot of this whole process is very confusing. Doesn't seem to be much you can rely on. It's just the nature of keeping records of people. Well, basically, I only know his full name and his approximate age and his state of birth. I do not believe he is dead. I have gone through online phone directories and every service out there, pay services and free ones alike, with no real luck. I was just hoping that someone out there might know something.
