My John Hunter born 1828- or thereabouts- emigrated from Ireland (originally from Glasgow Scotland area - left for religious reasons). He ended up in Ottawa Canada area in a small town called Riceville. He was still there in 1840's, possibly a bachelor, as a letter I have which he wrote, did not indicate wife or children. Did mention good hunting though! Anyway, I don't know of him entering the US, and most of that part of the family is still in Canada -- Ottawa to Toronto area. Hello all... May I remind the list that it is most practical when possible, to give the geographical area in which you are seeking information on any particular HUNTER ancestor or line. To emphasize the great numbers of HUNTERs in this world I recently searched for all HUNTERs who had enlisted and fought in The Great War of 1914 on behalf of Canada..... I was shocked to discover that over 1100 Canadian troops had the sir name HUNTER. Even today Canada's population is only 1/10th of the USA and is much smaller than the UK. We can only guess as to how extensive the name is world- wide. How many HUNTER lines do not have a John, Alexander, Henry, William, Charles... etc..etc? Hi, I'm new to the list and thought I'd post what little I know on my Hunter line. I have Taylor Hunter b. Nov 1905 (1906 on SS listing) d. Dec 1975 Ocala, FL. I'm told he was born in Brooksville, FL but I have yet to find him in FL. Taylor had a brother and sister. The sister was Ollie Hunter b. 1907 who married ?? Aggelis. Ollie d. 1991 Bartow, FL. I do not know the brother's name. I'm told the mother's name is Della. From Taylor's death cert I have a last name of Lisk. The death cert lists Nathan Taylor as his father. I'm told that Nathan was killed when the children were small. Taylor and his brother went to live with a relative while Ollie stayed with their mother. Taylor married Bertha Wilkerson b. 1902 Ft Meade, FL d. 1995 Ft Meade, FL. I have Bertha's line but am having trouble tracking down Taylor's. I've searched the 1910 and 1920 Brooksville, Hernando, FL censuses and found few to no Hunter's. I'm in the process now of searching the 1920 Polk County 1920 census for Taylor. Then I'll go back and search the rest of 1910 and 1920 Hernando County. The only match I come up with for Taylor on Ancestry and Rootsweb is his death listing. I have found several Nathan's in the southern states, but none married to a Della (guessing it's short for something else). Any insight or thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you. Renea

My Hunter's, too, moved to Whatcom Co., WA. Unfortunately I can find no connection to Heather's Hunter's, though I find it incredible that two families of Hunter's from the same general area in PA would move, separately, to the same general area in WA and NOT be connected in some way. My Hunter's are Thomas A. Hunter, b. 1836 probably in Warren Co. and m. to Lucy A. Barber, b. 1841 somewhere in NY. Thomas' parents appear to be William Hunter and Jane Unknown, though probably NOT Carr. Thomas also had the following siblings: Jared Ware Hunter, b. 1838, m. Almina Maria Walker, b. 1850 somewhere in PA William Hunter, b. about 1840 (all of the birth years for William and his younger siblings are pure guesswork). Mary Hunter, b. about 1841 Elizabeth Hunter, b. about 1845 Emeline Hunter, b. about 1847 Ellen Hunter, b. about 1850 If you could find anything about the parents, place of birth of Thomas and siblings and/or any other info about all but Thomas and Jared I would sure appreciate it! I've been beating my head against a brick wall for years on these people. At present the list is flooded with queries concerning Alexander HUNTERs from VA,NC and PA but Mass. is still drawing a blank. My Alex first showed up in Dartmouth, Mass at age of 25 with no known relatives and classified as a transient...said to be from Scotland. He married a Sarah Peckam, a widow in 1776. Dear Charles, Well, it only took me three months to figure out what I was supposed to do with this information! haha. I did find Della, Elsie, Forrest, and Nellie Hunter all to be in Volume 5. Would you check out the information in that. My ggrandmother was born on 9/12/1888 in Kansas (city unknown), but all the family seemed to moved to Washington State, expecially in the whatcom county area. Unfortunately, I don't have specific dates for those I wish to locate. William Hunter (born 1870-80) (prob. didn't leave Scotland) father of Alexander Hunter who married Mary (brothers John, William) (Assume he was born about 1800-1810; may have come to Canada late in life). (He also had twin sister Mary.) who are parents of: Samuel Gordon Hunter (and brothers John, Alexander) who married his cousin Sarah Hunter who lived in Riceville, Ontario. Their child, Arthur Alexander Hunter -- born ca 1867 -- is my GF I have the tree from Samuel Gordon Hunter to the present. What I'm searching are Samuel's parents, uncles etc. Those who came to Canada would have come from Scotland to probaby Ottawa at about the 1835-40 point. Highly unscientific I know. Seeking information on James HUNTER born in the early to mid 1700's in County Tyrone, Ireland. He had 7 children, I don't know his wife's name and he probably emigrated to Pennsylvania in the between 1760 and 1785 with some of his children including my line Samuel HUNTER born either 1766 in Westmoreland Co Pa or 1773 in Tyrone Ireland ( I have conflicting information from a few sources). Samuel settled Jefferson Co, Ohio and was one of the earliest property owners in Steubenville, Ohio. He was married to Mary Larimore and died in 1837 in Knoxville, Jefferson Co, Ohio.
