    3. It seems many Hunters arrived in the 1850 period. You have to wander if they came together, wrote to each other bring family over in pieces or what? ----- Original Message ----- From: <HBillhunter@aol.com> To: <HUNTER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 24, 2002 12:08 PM Subject: [HUNTER-L] Re: HUNTER-D Digest V02 #49 > Tom Hunter Jr. > I don't know if my grandfather (b 1829) had any siblings, only that his > father was James Hunter and mother Margaret Brown (b & d dates unknown). 3. Still trying to find info on Robert B. Hunter. He was born in NY around 1870 and died in 1910. He is buried in Green-Wood Cemetery. I know he was very ill in 1904 and his mother visited him in Lakewood NJ. Not sure if he was in a hospital there or lived there.

I don't know where he died, but probably in PA. Both Thomas and Jared died in Blaine, Whatcom Co., WA in the early 1900's. I don't know anything about William Jr. and the other siblings except what shows on the 1850 Fed. census. If the order of the children listed is correct then I would assume William Jr. to have been born about 1840 so it is entirely possible he COULD be your William. I just have no idea. From the names of the children listed on that census I am positive that William Sr.'s wife was NOT Jane CARR(E), though her given name was Jane. (Oh, for an few UNUSUAL names, like GOOGLEFRITZ! As you have undoubtedly found, there must be several thousand William and Thomas HUNTER's out there!) Barbara

    2. Ron Cushman
    3. Hi all, Just a friendly reminder on the proper use of Subject lines We all depend on them, to know what the general topic is, and whether it is worth opening the message to read it. It is therefore of GREAT BENEFIT to the POSTER to have the subject line reflect the content, in order to get the most readers. Most mail reader / clients can sort by subject, so that people can zoom in on a topic of interest, and delete blocks of messages , UNREAD, if the subject line is not of interest. SUBJECT LINES 1) If you subscribe to the HUNTER-D version of this list, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to make sure that the original poster's subject has been copied to the subject line of any reply. If your mail program doesn't do it automatically, do it manually. A subject line such as: Re: [HUNTER-L] Re: HUNTER-D Digest V02 #50 doesn't catch anyone's interest. 2) This list is for HUNTER's WORLDWIDE! PLEASE, put in your message an indication of what country / state / province you are talking about. Something like "ENG:NFK>CAN:ON " would mean originally from Dorset, England, moved to Ontario, Canada. - or - "USA:CA" would indicate a single location, of California, USA 3) If you notice that the conversation in a series of notes has moved away from the original topic, CHANGE THE SUBJECT LINE . If you want to add to the new subject line something like " (Formerly:..the old subject...)", great. It can be dropped after a few messages. ATTACHED MESSAGE CONTENT 1) All messages on this list are archived on Rootsweb. For that reason, and respect for users mailboxes...PLEASE **DO** attach a few lines, to help readers understand the context of your comments, but EDIT out headers, multiple taglines, and the message trail from the beginning of the thread. Readers will have received the previous messages, or can find them in the Archives on Rootsweb. Time to step off my soap box If anyone wants to reach ANY List Admin (including me) at Rootsweb, off the list, just address your email to the list name, with ' -ADMIN' added. For this list, it would be HUNTER-ADMIN@ROOTSWEB.COM . Thanks for listening Ron Cushman HUNTER List Admin

    1. [HUNTER-L] William Hunter
    2. Anyone have any connections to these Hunter(s) in Knox County, Ohio? The following is from the 1851 census of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England: HUNTER William 42 Stone Mason Bilton     Sarah 37 Bilton Gloucestershire     William 19 Coal Miner Bilton     Joseph 17 Errand Boy Bilton     John 12 Errand Boy Cheltenham     Jane 9 Scholar Bilton     Henry Scholar 6 Bilton     Timothy 3 Bilton     Samuel 3m Cheltenham (The birthplace of those born in "Bilton" was a transcription error and should have been "Bitton".) These Hunters came to Knox County, Ohio, between 1851 census -1853 when the last child (Silas) was born in Knox County. Even though there were other Hunters in Knox County, I haven't been able to connect to them. Loretta Knox County surnames: HUNTER, SIMPSON, GOODIN and ROBINSON

    1. Re: [HUNTER-L] William Hunter
    2. Hi All, Since the subject seems to be William Hunter, I figured I'd post even though I'm not currently working on this branch. My great grandfather was also a William. His full name is William Clarke Hunter. He was born Jul 1864 in Philadelphia, Pa. Both of his parents came from Ireland (according to census records & family history). I don't know his parents' names or where in Ireland they came from. I don't know if there were any siblings. It is possible that his mother's name may have been Jane. I did Jane & William Hunter (mother & son) listed in Philadelphia on the 1880 census. This is the only William I could find that was the correct age to be my William. But, like I said, that's only a maybe. William married Ellen Jane Warden at the Memorial Church of the Holy Comforter Protestant Episcopal church, 1619 Christian Street, Philadelphia on 5 JUN 1899. William & Ellen had 4 children: 1)William Clarke Hunter Jr. b.16 APR 1900 in Philadelphia, d. MAR 1967 in Atlantic City, NJ 2)Helen W. (Hunter) Tilton b. 1901 in Philadelphia, d.1963 in NJ 3)Florence E. Hunter b. 1903 in Philadelphia, d. 1937 in Atlantic City(?), NJ 4)Raymond Thomas Hunter b. 1 DEC 1906 in Philadelphia, Pa., d. 22 JAN 1964 in Pleasantville, NJ (my grandfather) We're nor quite positive about Ellen's maiden name. She is listed as Warden on her marriage certificate, and as Bayden on my grandfather's birth certificate. If this William sounds familiar or belongs to anyone else, please let me know. I have alot of info on his descendants I can pass along.
