Hello every-one , I do hope you can help me with my brick wall . I am looking for a Captain John HUNTER , born Buteshire Scotland , 1830 ??? . He joined the Union Army in America where he was a Captain and a Doctor . When the Civil War ended he was granted land in Pennsylvania query where and continued his practice as a Doctor and from all reports became quite well known and prominent . If anyone can help me I would be ever so grateful Cheers Lucy (Western Australia)
I have no information on either, but the likelihood is that she was born and married Gloucester Co., NJ. Thomas was born there.
My Hunter's were also in the US before 1800. My ggg grandfather, Joseph A. Hunter was born in 1812 (married Catherine Boyer around 1830). He was the son of Joseph and Mary Hunter. They supposedly lived in New Jersey, but we aren't completely certain of that. They may have lived in eastern Pa for a time before they moved to the Pittsburgh, PA area. Any of this sound familiar to anyone? ~Ed Hunter __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Movies - coverage of the 74th Academy Awards http://movies.yahoo.com/

My Hunters settled in Barren Co. and Hart Co., KY after migrating from supposedly E. Tenn. in the late 1700s. The earliest I have is my 4GGrandfather, James A. Hunter, b. 1813 in Barren Co., KY. He married Eliza Woodall, we think, who was probably born in E. Tenn. I have a brickwall with James also. I have an Elizabeth Hunter, probably b. ca. 1769, who married Thomas Champion (5 May 1736 - 1808) as his second wife bef. 1789. He married first, Abigail Townsend on 5 May 1763. She must have died after 1766. Elizabeth's sons' names were Joseph, Daniel, Robert, John, and James; her grandsons by her son Joseph were named Andrew Hunter, Robert Cameron, William James, and Mark Adams (the latter for his maternal grandfather). Thomas had a brother James and John was a common Champion name, otherwise the boys' names appear to have come from Elizabeth Hunter's family. Robert Cameron may have been her maternal grandfather, and her father's name may have been Andrew Hunter. An early NJ presbyterian minister was also named Andrew Hunter. The Champions, however, were Methodists. All of this probably just contributes to the confusion about early NJ Hunters!
Elizabeth Black: Where was your Elizabeth Hunter born? Where did she marry Thomas Champion? Thanks, Sandi/CA
To the Board. Concerning the book "The Hunters of Bedford County, Virginia" by A. Hunter. I do not know if it is still for sale or inner library loan. Check with the genealogy library near you about it. It is about three Hunters, John, Alexander and Jane. Does not cover John past the first or so generation. Mostly Alexander and Jane. Jane md. a Hugh Martin in NJ, where he died. Jane then went to NC to be with a son. Alexander md. Elizabeth Steele and settled in Va., where he died. Hope that this will someone. P. L. "Chris" Christian Jr. Mekongriver38744@aol.com
Chris: What year did they come? Where did they come from? Where did they start in the U.S.? Right to VA or where? Would you please, you list the information you have about John? even though it only covers one or two generations? I know I have seen these Hunters posted before... Alexander and Jane not mine...but the John is interesting? When you have time, would appreciate your help. Thanks, Sandi/CA
My Hunter is named James (or Jimmeson) Hunter. Born in 1792 place unknown but he met and married Jane Mason born 1799 in Virginia. They had several children and there is suggestion that they lived in TN. One child (at least) was born in SC. Jane survived to live in MS with my great grand parents in her old age. I seek any information on thus Hunter born before 1800. The Hunter children were: Eliza (Elizea) b 1812 SC Sasy (female) b 1820 Sucanna (Susanna) b 1821 Nancyann b 1823 Maryann b 1824 Elizabeth b 1826 George B. Williams Manassas, Virginia
I'd like to see your page, but the link below doesn't work. I have a James Hunter, circa 1805, S.C. - ca 1885, TN. Rumored to be a Jr. His father died, his mother remarried, he left for TN and never went back. He said he was born in S.C. I am grasping at straws for his parents. He left home as far as I can gather about 1820. Hunter, You should get a hold of the book "The Hunters of Bedford Co., Va." by a Hunter. That is if you have not seen it yet. It covers the Hunters and Martins. There was two brothers, John and Alexander and their sister Jane (who md. a Hugh Martin in NJ) came from Ireland to Pa., NJ and Va.. Your line may be from Alexander, who md. Elizabeth Steele. My line is from John Hunter, which the auther did not trace. I have more if you would like it. Let me know. Chris
I would like to know more about this "Hunter Book". Please tell me what the name is and author and where it is located. Do you know if it is an interlibrary loan book? Thanks for your help. F.Kay Hunter Roberts

I am looking for information on William A Hunter d apr 26 1896 in Cincinnati,Hamilton Ohio when both children were infants. He was born in Ohio, married Bessie Carrick August 11 1891 in Cincinnati,Hamilton,Ohio. Any information on parents, siblings, etc would be greatly appreciated. Their graves were bought by Robert H Robinson (Williams nephew) but when Bessie was buried she was buried byJessie Gilligan with R H Robinson in parenthesis. Bessie died Oct 27 1908 in Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio. Both children were put into a children's home in Cincinnati.
