Dear Hunter Hunters: Have you all looked into Gendex. Below is the Hunter site in case you haven't. It has 8000 plus entries for Hunter and many have dates and locations with spouses and children, parents, siblings, etc. Seemed that when we looked into this site, we saw lots of TN, SC, PA, OH, Scotland and Ireland sources. Didn't locate any direct family but found some distant 'cousins'?? Anyway, if you haven't looked there, might be worth a try. The homepage is simply www.gendex.com, but here is the Hunter link. (Please be patient - it takes several seconds to load.) http://www.gendex.com:8080/display?page=individuals&surname=HUNTER Dan & Joyce Hunter

Should have sent this to the list also. -----Original Message----- From: Sent: Tuesday, November 09, 1999 9:09 PM To: '[email protected]' Subject: RE: [HUNTER-L] Hunter List Thanks to all who answered. You are alive out there! My Hunter list is extensive - all South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and then in the latter 1900s - in Tennessee. We believe, but have not linked positively, that we come from the Virginia Hunters, and expect to find that missing link that shows we were part of the group that was shipped out of England for rebelling against high land rentals, etc. We're on all the state query lists. Does anyone checking here have family connections that include more than one of the following surnames? That would probably help us in our particular family search by narrowing down on the Hunter name. ALLEN ENGLAND MONTGOMERY COLLINS FISHER SAVAGE COMBS GWYNN / GWIN AXON DUCKWORTH HUNTER SOUTHER DYER MILLER WATSON WILKINS In addition to these surnames, some peripheral ones (married into the Hunters and above but less connected) are: ALLISON POWERS SHULER / SCHULER JACKSON ROOSE SMITH (JAMES / "BIG JIM") And since I'm doing the list, the other side of the family is a mix of English, Irish, German, and Slavic/Croatian as follows - just some of them listed by (similar) nationality (as far as I can tell). These would not be connected to the Hunter side, but maybe some Hunters might also have some of these surnames in theirs or their spouses families. ABSHIRE BLAZINA COOK ANHEUSER FAK DENYER GUNTER LEKETICH MCCLARY REUTER MINERICH MERCER SCHMIDT MOLNER SKIDMORE STUEBER / STEUBER STIMAC WICKSEY Any general similarities in groups of surnames among the Hunters??? Dear List - Does anyone have any information on a Robert Naisbitt (Nesbitt) Hunter who married March 1849, at Newcastle upon Tyne, England. from the Civil Records Vol. 25, page 373. Wife's name not known - He would be from Ireland. Thank You - Richard
Some recent progress on my HUNTER family of County Tyrone. A marriage certificate shows 27 Feb 1868 in Presbyterian church Clady in County Tyrone Ireland (Parish of Ardstraw, Registration district of Strabane) William HUNTER married Mary HUSTON. Both of full age, neither previously married, he a farmer, William was of "Lisnean" - should be Lisleen, Mary of "Bullough" - should be Ballought. William's father was John HUNTER, farmer. Mary's father was Ezekiel HUSTON, farmer. note that HUSTON is often spelt as HOUSTON for this family. William and Mary started their family in Lisleen but moved a few miles south to Dromore parish sometime before 1895. Any links? Victor Paul, Christchurch, NZ. email: [email protected]

I am looking for the biological ancestors of George Allan HUNTER, born April 19, 1920, Youngstown, Alberta, Canada. His adopted parents were Denton and Elizabeth Northgraves. His biological parents were Allan and (possibly Margaret) HUNTER. Children of Allan and Margaret were: Jean BN 1910, married Charlie Eamor Elsie bn January 4, 1914; Jack bn January 16, 1917; Christine, twin of George Allan, died 1966, married to William McGladdery bn abt 1907 and died abt March 1940. Christine and William had a farm in Saskatoon. They had a daughter, Margaret MC GLADDERY. I believe all his brothers and sisters have died. I am looking for any of the descendants of the above family. George Allan was my uncle, he died in WWII, Beach at Dieppe, In Line of Duty. I have his letters, medals, pictures and will put a memory book together about him. He mentioned in his letters about meeting his biological family when he was in the service. He met them in Alberta, Canada, and aunts and uncles when he was in England. He also mentioned an Aunt and Uncle in Australia. I thought it would interesting to learn more about the biological family. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Sharon

Hi, Here is everything I have. I hope this helps. Thomas P. Smith (no birthdate ir place)and Annie Hunter, (no birthdate or place) are assumed to have married in Saegertown, Crawford county, PA or Franklin, PA, though I have search all the towns of Franklin in the neighboring counties with nothing turned up. They had the following children: James Matthew Smith, born September 18, 1868, in Franklin, PA. He married Minnie Inez Burbank in Miles, Lincoln county, Washington, had a daughter, Betty Pauline Smith, b.April 5, 1898. His wife Minnie was born March 7, 1871 in Ohio, probably Ashtabula county, since that is where they were living for some time. Her parents were Harry Burbank and Minerva Haight. Julia Smith, born between 1845-67 in Saegertown, Crawford county, PA, or Franklin, Erie, PA . Married a man named Parker. They lived there in Crawford county, the last letter dated from there is 1920. She probably died there. Nasa, Naso, Nora, Nona, maybe Nancy Smith, (couldn't read handwriting) could even be Dora or Cora - born between 1845-67 in Saegertown, Crawford county, PA, or Franklin, Erie, PA. Married a man named Williams, and lived in Crawfor county for a long time as well. Her first name initial could be something else and it would be better to look for a death of a woman named Williams with a father Thomas P. Smith and mother Annie Hunter. James fought in Co. B. of the 4th Infantry, "The Fighting Fourth", before he was married. It is unknown exactly when in the history of the Regiment James served, but it was in Washington State, probably during the Spanish American War. He and Minnie were divorced after eight years of marriage, by decree dated June 29, 1900, County of Spokane, Washington State. It is thought that James must have gone back to Franklin and died there some time after 1924. They were poor people and Thomas P. may have come with the wave of Irish Immigrants and lived, before marriage, in a "Shanty" or a "Poor House". Both the names Smith and Hunter were popular Irish and Scottish immigrant names at that time in PA, though they could also be English, but they may be found on Naturalization records somewhere. Letters to Betty and Minnie place James M. Smith in Kalispel, or Great Falls, Montana, in the early 1900's. One is dated September 21, 1901, where he tells of working with as a Surveyor with engineers making boundary lines. Another dated June 13, 1901 tells of working at Boonman Lumber Company in Kalispel, Montana. At one time he was also a Barber. He may have done any of the types of work that he is known to have done in Crawford county. There is a letter from Mica, Washington, dated December 29, 1904, to Minnie Smith. There is also a Letter from Betty's uncle, George Beatty - a Chef in Minott, North Dakota - dated May 3, 1920. The Beatty name is assumed to enter the picture from a second marriage of Thomas or Annie, as James referred to George Beatty as his Brother. It might turn up on a marriage document for Thomas P. Smith or Annie Hunter, sometime after 1868. [email protected] Kindest Regards, Brent Fraser
