    3. Dianna and Lynne: In looking at what I have on this family line, I also show the first wife of John Jr and their children, plus another child of John Jr. and second wife Rebekah H. Walter. Already have those? Any interest in more? Joyce -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, November 20, 1999 1:22 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [HUNTER-L] Re: HUNTER-D Digest V99 #310 Dianna, I have John Hunter Jr. (1775-1820) in Chester Co., SC whose second wife was Rebecca Walker (b. 12-24-1790, d. 1-19-1868). They married Jan 7, 1808 and had these children: Rhoda (Ewing) Martha (Weir, Wier) Elizabeth Hunter Adam Walker Hunter James Alexander Hunter Elijah Terry Hunter I do not know who Rebecca Walker's parents were but she had a descendant J. L. Walker. There was also mention of Henry Walker driving a wagon to Illinois for John Brown, and John Walker who married Polly Douglas. Also, the research mentions Adam Walker who was a cousin of John Walker, and Henry and Alexander Walker who were sons on Thomas Walker. Furthermore, Adam, Philip and James Walker were reported to be cousins of Rebecca Walker Hunter. There is also an Eleanor Walker Clark who had a brother Charles Walker. Rebecca's husband, John Hunter Jr. was the son of John Hunter Sr. and Rachel Mary Harper. The research I copied from the Sparta Library in Illinois says that John Sr. was born in DERRY, IRE. in 1720 and died in 1802 in Chester, SC. He was, according to this research, the brother of Thomas, Henry, Humphrey and James, but this is disputed by others researching that family. I am trying to prove one way or another whether there is a connection or not. According to the Sparta Library Collection, John Sr. bought land in Anson, near MECKLENBERG (I assume NC) in Dec. 1762. After his house burned he moved from NC to Sugar Creek (SC). The research was conducted by Mabel Clendenin who researched records in SC. and is found in the Ada Torrens Collection in Sparta. By the way, I have TONS of information on Hunter descendants, many of whom ended up in Illinois and Kansas. Lynne Gantt

    3. Lynne: I have records on this same family. And in fact, a descendent who now lives in IL (Belleville/Mascoutah) is the source for our information. That family gave us an entire history of this family (marriages, dates, etc.) However, because I don't know their sources, I cannot verify for you. Are you aware of the Hunters of that area, and even perhaps a member of their family. If so, we have the same info. If not, perhaps you need to get in touch with them. We've been exchanginge info because all of our Hunters were at about the same time in South Carolina, prior to spreading out all over the country. Let me know if this is of interest to you and if you are connected with the family in Belleville/Mascoutah, IL. 1. [HUNTER-L] Re: HUNTER-WALKER
    2. Dear Lynne and Hunter List, The HUNTER name is often linked with WALKER. "The Hunter Family, 1707-1912" Film #0987076 & other sources: Andrew HUNTER m: Adalaine WALKER abt 1810, She is reputed to be a "minister's daughter" but no name was given. Thomas H. HUNTER, bro. of Andrew, married Margaret H. WALKER dau. of John WALKER & Rosanna BLACK (m: 1791) who have another dau. Rosemma Amelia WALKER who marries a Thomas HUNTER (son of ?) 22 Feb 1832 in Mecklenburg Co., NC. These are named in John WALKER' s will Film 0019302 BkE Pg 185 (abstract) I, JOHN WALKER, of the county of Mecklenburg & state of North Carolina... my son, John WALKER, my daughter Margaret H. HUNTER, my granddaughter, AGNES..., my daughter, CAROLINE, my daughter ROSANNA AMELIA HUNTER, my daughter MARY HUTCHINSON, my son WILLIAM, my wife ROSANNA, my grandson JOHN HUNTER: Dated: 20 Jun 1833 Signed Wm Black, John Walker I show Andrew and Thomas as the sons of Henry HUNTER b: 1751 and his wife, Martha. One common thread is the name "STANHOPE" used exclusively (as far as I can tell) by WALKER descendants. AGNES is also the name used by my Winna for her first born daughter. I believe that filling in these families will help me to eventually sort this out. Thank you so much, Dianna German Anderson

    1. [HUNTER-L] Jared Hunter
    2. Ed or Barbara LaChance
    3. Does anyone have a Jared HUNTER, son of Leslie HUNTER and Phyliss WALTERS. I'm not sure of the dates but believe it to be in the early 1830s in PA. Don't know the exact location. What I'm looking for are any siblings of Jared and his father. My ggfather, Thomas A. HUNTER was born to unknown HUNTERs about 1836 somewhere in PA. I'm hoping to find some record of his parents. I've tried the direct route and am now trying a round-about way of getting at the info. I am pretty sure the Jared I have in WA State is related to Thomas (cousin/brother) and both came originally from PA. I ran across the Jared listed in the first sentence, but have no further info on him. He may, or may not, be the one I am looking for. Thanks in advance. Barbara

Hi Richard, Maybe we did talk before? I have an Ephraim WALKER married to Louisa PATTERSON. Ephraim would be my Winna's nephew. I show Robert PATTERSON and Isabella BARBER as the parents of Louisa. This is from another researcher: [email protected] (Robert Patterson) To: [email protected] Looking for information on any of the following Patterson ancestors. James Patterson came down the Great Wagon Rd. from PA into NC abt 1760's and, after stopping briefly in Charlotte, settled on the South Fork of Crowder's Creek. Brothers Arthur and John came as well. James married Sarah Fleming and later Jean ?. James had the following children:Alexander (md. Sarah Wells), John (md. Mary Henderson), Robert (md. Isabella Barber in 1793 he died 1818 and is my ancestor), Martha, Elizabeth, Jean and Agnes. Robert md. Isabella Barber (dau. of John Barber and Sarah Martin) in 1793 and had the following children: John B. (b. 1803 and md. Frances McCully of York Co., SC in 1826), Sarah (b. 1795 md. John Hill), Mary (b.1801 md. Elias Jackson), Catherine (md. James Adams), Eliza (or Elizabeth md. John B. Adams), Jane (md. Mr. Davis), James (died intestate before 1833), Rev. William (md. Ms. Chambers) So far I am without a clue as to my immigrant ancestor. Cannot get beyond Winna WALKER b: 1795. So frustrating! Her father HAS to be either Benjamin m: Margery CATHEY or John m: unknown as they are the only two WALKER's in Lincoln County, NC at the time of Winna's birth & childhood. I opted for John as Benjamin "disappears" from Lincoln county around 1810 and because Benjamin has a daughter named Susanna in 1795. Thank you for your response, Dianna

    1. [HUNTER-L] Another EPHRAIM HUNTER
    2. Bill Allen
    3. I see no obvious relationship of my ancestor, Ephraim Hunter, to those previously mentioned; however, following is a brief biography of him: 1.1.1.4 EPHRAIM HUNTER (b. 15 September 1790, in Mecklenburg Co, North Carolina; d. 30 October 1857) married Mary Elliott (b. 9 March 1797; d. 10 November 1864), son of Robert Hunter & Rebecca Cummings (see below). Ephraim & Mary Elliott were married 29 December 1814, and lived and died at Farmington, Marshall Co TN, and it is believed theirs are the two graves marked by field stones beside the graves of four of their children in Bethbirei Churchyard. He was a Democrat and served many years as a magistrate. He was a farmer, and he had a store located on the north side of the square at Farmington, at the east side of the road running north. He also ran a carding machine and cotton spinner. Children, eleven, b. 1815-1836: James Newton, Nancy Caroline, Robert M., Rebecca Emmaline, Henry Elliott, William Leander, Mary Elizabeth, son (unnamed; b. 14 May 1830; lived two hours), Ephraim Jasper, Thomas Neely, daughter (still-born in 1840). 1.1.1 ROBERT HUNTER (b. 13 April 1749; d. 3 May 1835) married Rebecca Cummings (d. 7 December 1832, aged 72 years). He came from Ireland with his father, John Hunter, when he was ten years old; grew up and married in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, where all his children were born; moved to Tennessee about 1805, and in 1810 established his home on Rock Creek in Marshall County (then Bedford Co). He and his wife were charter members of the Bethbirei Presbyterian Church (commonly known as Rock Creek Church), organized 1 June 1810; and they were buried in Bethbirei Churchyard, about two miles from Farmington. Children, eight, b. 1784-1801: Mary, John Ebenezer, Charles Edwin, Ephraim, Priscilla, Eunice, Elihu Whitfield, and Tirzah. Bill Allen [email protected] West Bend, WI

    2. Dear Dianna - Your Stanhope and Walker connections are interesting since a Rev. George Walker (1592-1677) married Ursula Stanhope (1596-1677). Their son, Rev. George Walker (1618-1690) married Isabella Barclay - He was present at the Siege of Londonderry and the Battle of the Boyne, Derry, Ireland. Your surname Stanhope must connect to the aforementioned. Do you have information as to your immigrant Walker ancestor and Irish connections? I am attempting a connect to the Walkers through my Patterson line. Sincerely - Richard
