    2. just another bit o info i recall, a cousin of my line is a Dr. Hiram Hunter, who d. in 1943 who was president of Western Carolina University at Cullowee (sp?) for a number of years, he apparently had done a considerable bit of genealogy on my HUnter line, but I went to the college to try to find out where this genealogy was today, (this was about 6 years ago) and nobody there could tell me, said someone in the family had it, but none there at the school. anyhow, just wanted to interject this. 2. Hi Betty, I think we are onto something, these names are so familiar, and the location, dates are all similar, if we could just make the connection, but I certainly feel there is one to be discovered here, my William Hunter was born ca 1760 in VA and shows up for the first time in Buncombe Co, Nc in early 1790's, but by this time, he has a wife, Anne and several Children, where he was before then, I do not know, Anne was a Caldwell, and could have been from the Greeneville, SC area, according to family tradition. So we need to keep on this, It may take me a few days, but I will go dig out my copy of the few pages of the book that mentions Dorcas, and if you get any more info on the Hunter book, please let me know. Thanks, Genie

    2. Hi, I do not think there is a connection to the Dorcas mentioned, and your Robert Hunter, if there is a connection, I think it is remote. Genie

    1. RE: [HUNTER-L] Re: Dorcas H. Hunter
    2. Conrad James Hunter
    3. This is the Hunter line I was referring to. I'm a descendant of Henry and Martha Sloan Hunter. There is also a possibility that their widowed mother's name was Agnes (LeCarm) Hunter. She is on record buying land in Cabarrus/Mecklenburg County at the time corresponding to their first arrival. In Humphrey's memoirs, he states that his paternal grandfather (not named) was from Glasgow and that his maternal grandfather was a Huguenot from Brest, in France. this seems to match. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, January 23, 2000 11:56 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [HUNTER-L] Re: Dorcas H. Hunter Genie, I have not seen the Hunter book but I am going to try to find a copy of it. This is very possibly the same line because Dorcas Hunter's earlier ancestors are said to have come from Derry, Ireland. The information that I have came from a FamilyTree Maker disk and is not my research but it appears to be accurate. The earliest was Unknown Hunter m. to Polly Hunter. Their children were: James Hunter Thomas Hunter John Hunter Henry Hunter b. 11 Aug 1751 in Derry, Ireland d. 17 May 1837 in Mecklenburg Co., NC m. Martha Sloan and had 12 children, one of which was John Hunter, father of Dorcas Hunter. Humphrey Hunter b. 14 May 1755 in Derry Ireland, d. 21 Aug 1827 in Lincoln Co., NC m. Jane Ross and had 17 children. Was a preacher for 38 years. Does any of this fit in with your Hunters? Betty

    1. [HUNTER-L] Hunter Family Book
    2. Conrad James Hunter
    3. "Your Hunter line must be a similar one to the Hunters of Mecklenburg County. In "the Hunter Family" by William May hunter, he states that all five brothers came to Mecklenburg from N. Ireland with their widowed mother, after the death of their father, who had been a drapery merchant at the "Bleach Green" farm. this account is verified in the memoirs of Humphrey Hunter (his son) which are on file at the University of Chapel Hill, in the NC. collection. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, January 23, 2000 8:11 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [HUNTER-L] Re: Dorcas H. 1. [HUNTER-L] John Hunter
    2. Family bible has John Hunter b Pa.,emigrated to Jefferson County,Ky.was accidentally killed. His wife,Jane, Did not long survive him. This dovetails ,in many respects with documents establishing John Hunter in Jefferson County,Ky. in 1781.He was accidentally killed in Nelson County,Ky, in 1785. His wife,Jane married Thomas Williams in Nelson County,Ky.in 1785. John and Jane Hunter had four children;Alexander,William,Elizabeth and Joan(Jean)all born before 1781 in Pennsylvania. Suspect counties in Pa. are Chester or Cumberland.A John Hunter and Jane Cunningham were married in Lutheran Church in 1767 at Carlisle,Pa.Church records say they did not remain in Carlisle after the wedding. Can anyone find the missing jigsaw pieces? Charles A. Hunter

    2. Betty, You probably already read the mail about Dorcas' being a possible niece/cousin of my Robert Hunter, I know now this is the right line, when I say the Hutchison connection, several years ago, someone sent me a few pages copied from a book on this Hunter family, I do not have the title or copyright pages, so I cannot name the book, it may very well be the Hunter book in the Meckelburg Co, NC. library. I would like to know if it carries the family back from my Robert's father, William, the pioneer of Buncombe Co, NC. ? Apparently it does, from what I have just read about the Londonderry Connection. At this time, I have all my genealogy files packed away, awaiting a room to be redone, so I cannot look at them to read the part of the book I have copied, but I do recall Dorcas, and Hutchison. Can anyone out there elaborate on William's ancestors. Thanks. Genie
