Kathleen, I'm interested in the Robert C. Hunter you referred to. My uncle, Robert Clyde Hunter, did lots of genealogical research on the HUNTERS. He eventually moved to Brisbee, AZ...by chance do you have any letters written by your Robert C. Hunter with that addresss? Conrad: I really appreciate this info. I had no idea where to look outside of VA for these folks. What I know at the moment came from census, marriage bonds and word of mouth. I'm sure you've been asked already, but what are the Myrtle Cranford papers? Do you know where I might find or access them? Again, thanks so much for your response. It was really was helpful to me. I also have noticed that there is a lot more people researching the more southern lines of the Hunters. My Hunters came from Ireland to New England (NY and VT) and then some came to Canada as United Empire Loyalists. This is our line. Here's the first few generations. Conrad, I saw your post on GenForum and answered it, then noticed this on my own Hunter-L e-mail. Since I dont know how often you check the other, I'll repeat it here. Your Humphrey mentioned a grandfather from Glascow who married a French woman. Are there any details? I am looking for a grandson of John and Agnes Hunter who probably married a French woman. The dates are off a little but you never know. My John and Agnes were from just south of Glascow. Thanks for any scrap! Jeanne Hunter Blahut
Hello List: I'm new, as of today. Looking for any information on MARY JANE HUNTER, born July 29, 1827 in Pennslyvania, died September 4, 1902. Married JAMES WESLEY SCOTT of Bucks, Co. PA, March 13,1847. Info I have is that both were from Bucks, Co. PA. She is listed in the LDS archives, but only info is that she was wife of JAMES. No info re her family, where they came from, etc. Any information would be very much appreciated. She is my Great Great Grandmother. Thanks, SANDI CA [email protected]
I am still trying to find the parents of John Hunter whose will was recorded July 1794 in Mecklenburg Co., NC. In the will he names his wife Mary, sons Robert and John, daughters Rachel, Agness, and Nancy, sons-in-law James Beaty and John Harris. His son John's will was recorded April 1800 in Mecklenburg Co. NC. He leaves his mother Mary all of his property left to him by his father John Hunter. He mentions his brother Robert, his sisters Mary Beaty wife of James Beaty, Rachel McNeely wife of Andrew Mc Neely, Agness Harris wife of James Harris and Martha Harris wife of John Harris. Mary Hunter's will was recorded 1811 in Mecklenburg Co., NC. She names her son Robert Hunter and her daughters Mary Beaty wife of James Beaty, Rachel McNeely wife of Andrew NcNeely, Agness Harris wife of James Harris and Martha Harris wife of John Harris. Son Robert Hunter died in Marshall Co., TN. Any help appreciated. Bettye ============================================== [email protected]

Hello Hunters, I have a lot of old letters written by several HUNTERS who started their research back in the 1930's. I am slowly going through and trying to organize them. I ran across one this morning written by Robert C. Hunter of Hamilton, Ohio on 16 Sep 1952 that stated: "There was Rev. HUMPHREY HUNTER borned in Scotland, in 1754, came to America with his mother in 1759 and settled in Charleston S.C. HENRY HUNTER borned of Scotch-Irish descent in 1751, he too came to Charleston about 1774 but went directly to N. Carolina. Dr. JOHN HUNTER borned in Hunterston Co. Ayr, Scotland about 1721 and came to America about 1746. He was one of the founders and builders of Alexandria, Virginia." I will send more as I come across it. Kathleen in WA
Query on James and Mary Hunter opens up a whole new can of worms.A James and Hannah Hunter purchased Kentucky land at a sale at Chester Co.,Pa.Courthouse and gave Power of Attorney to John Hunter, all in 1781. Suddenly,I find a Hannah Harris of Bucks County who became quite a land speculator in Kentucky during this same timeframe. She had a sister,Mary from Bucks County who married a James Hunter. In 1787 Appeals Court in Philadelphia had litigation wherein a James and Mary Hunter sued John Hunter over a land dispute in Kentucky. I have never been able to put this jigsaw together. For one thing,John had a relative,James who was married to Hannah Morgan. they had children named James and Mary.James, the elder, died in 1783 and John died in Kentucky in 1785. I have been queried once or twice about a Hannah Harris being involved in that land sale but haven't been able to come up with anything.I know this is confusing but think it should be brought out. Best of luck Charles A. Hunter
ethunter writes of Hunters going through Westmoreland County in 1780. This is a reach but should be checked out. John and Jane Hunter and four children went from Chester Co.,Pa.to Nelson Co.,,Ky.in 1780 and 1781.John Hunter had purchased Kentucky land at Chester Co.Courthouse in 1780.It is possible that the party went through Westmoreland Co. but I am sure they continued on.I find them in Nelson Co.,Ky. in 1781 Any ideas? John was my ggggrandfather.I have a wealth of info on Kentucky Hunters. Charles A.Hunter
Dear Conrad; Your statement below indicates you have a vast knowledge of the N.C. Hunter's, and I am looking for sources. What are the Myrtle Cranford papers and how can I get a copy ? . I am related to a John Hunter who married Ann Andrews and lived in Orange county, N.C.. Is this Mecklenburg tribe related to this family ? Best regards; Dave "All if the Mecklenburg Hunters came directly to NC via Charleston port from Derry 1760-80s. The book I'm referring to was printed locally in 1921 and has been out of print for ages. I'll do a look up over the weekend and good luck -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, February 10, 2000 10:43 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [HUNTER-L] Hunter Genealogy References Conrad, Actually, I'm looking for information about Dorcas Hunter, daughter of John Hunter who was the son of John Hunter, brother of Humphrey. There are just so many Johns that I'm sure every family has a John Hunter but not all have a Humphrey Hunter. Dorcas was married to my gr-gr-grandfather, Stanhope W. Alexander and I am looking for whatever information I can find on both families. I have found a place to buy the book for $15.00 but wanted to be sure that it is the right Hunter family. Betty
