Still looking for parents and siblings of Thomas A. Hunter of PA, b. 1836 m. Lucy Barber of NY 1863. They raised 6 children, mostly in Erie Co., before moving on to Blaine, Whatcom Co., WA where both died, Thomas in 1896 and Lucy in 1907. Also looking for background info on Jared/Jarred Ware Hunter, b. 1833 in PA, who arrived in Blaine, WA sometime prior to 1896 where he opened the Erie Shingle Mill/Company. Jared and Thomas are undoubtedly related, probably brothers, maybe cousins. Jared m. someone named Almina. Don't know any more about her, nor the date or location of the marriage, though it was probably in PA. Jared died in 1913 in Blaine. Any info on either, or both, of these men would be greatly appreciated. Barbara mailto:[email protected]

Sorry, no. My William Hunter would have been born in the mid 1850's (I'm guessing) My grandfather. French Hunter, was born in 1900 in WVa. I know that his parents were George and Molly Ida (Bishop) Hunter. George's parents were supposedly William and Sara Ann (Kazee) Hunter. Going by 20-30 year generation increments, George would have been born c.1870-80, making William being born c. 1850's. I have very little proven facts other than French's birthyear, place and parents. With William and George both being common names, it has been a virtual needle in a haystack. Thanks for your help! Hi, I'm researching ANDREW HUNTER. born 1757 in Lancaster Co, Penn. He had two brothers, Robert and David. They all served in the Rev War from Lancaster Co. I haven't been able to locate anything about the father and all I know about their mother is her surname was CRAIG. Need help finding information about the parents. After the war Andrew and Robert moved to Centre Co, Penn. and I;ve been able to trace Andrew from there and Robert moved on to Ohio about 1807 or so. Any help appreciated. Dee
OK, this is a long shot... As some of the HUNTERs seem to have immigrated into Westmoreland Co, I wonder where the US counties got their names and when? Is it just possible that the people who settled there named them after the counties of their birth? In which case, could Westmoreland Co have been named by immigrants from the county of Westmoreland (subsequently Westmorland - without the 'e') in England? And does anyone know if there's a Kendal in Westmoreland Co - that would be a clincher. My interest is that I can trace my HUNTER ancestry back to the mid-1600s in Kendal, Westmorland, England and I wonder if some of them went to the US. I can't find any evidence of this yet, but I'm ever hopeful! Nigel Hunter, Kendal, Westmorland (now called Cumbria) England >Does anyone out there have a good grip on the many different Hunter >lines that entered the US? And where they are from? And where they >went? > >There seems to be a vast amount of information about the lines that went >to NC and VA, but I can't get past 1780 in my line which was passing >through Franklin and Westmoreland Co., PA. Yes, there is a Kendall. My Great grandparents were married in Brigsteer Parish, Kendall, England, in 1840. Molly Ball Stoddard ([email protected])
Hi, My relatives are part of the Hunters in Westmoreland County, PA. I have not been able to find much out about them though. My Hunter family started in an area called Derry township. Harmon Hunter was my grandfather. He was an only child. His house was built on the same land as his father. There are several other Hunter families in Westmoreland County some from the Ligonier Valley area. I don't know their roots or my own family roots but I am trying but it is hard because of the older generation having died. I have traced some of my grandmother Hunter family. They are the Schaffer and Kuhns families. My grandmother was from Somerset County originally. The Kuhns are from the Youngstown, PA area. I have the church records from the cemetery where my grandfather and my grandmother family are buried but little else. I have visited their graves which are very old. I do know that my Hunters were relative to Montgomery. They were cousins. If anyone has any information about the Hunter from Westmoreland County, I would like to see if it matches any of my family Rose
To PMccon4741: I'm checking to see if we have anything on William Hunter (b. 1855). I believe that's all the info we have, but will let you know. HalfElven2
Hi to all Hunter searchers, This list was sent to me from a lady who did a canvas of two of the cemeteries in Pinellas County. I thought that maybe someone might recognize the names. So here it is. Clearwater Municipal Cemetery: Hunter, James R. 12 Jan. 1888-8 Oct. 1968- Blk 12, Lot 89, space 5. Florida PVT US Army WWI Hunter, Melville G. 1913-1931, Blk 5, Lot 32, space 11, no marker Hunter, Mildred B. d: 24 Mar 1969, Blk 12, Lot 89, space 6- no marker Hunter, Robert A. Charles A. Hunter says: "If there is any interest here ,please respond. Please!" about his family in Chester Co., PA. I guess it's time again to put in mine. Gggf William Hunter, b. 1780, Franklin Co., PA. His inlaws were Irwins. His first wife was a "Miss Ray", md in 1808 in Franklin Co., moved to Mt. Pleasant in Westmoreland Co., and she died in 1824. They had Eleanor, Elizabeth, Martha and William R. Gggf William then remarried, Jane McCrelias, b. 1800 in Ireland, md in 1826. Children -Mary, Isabelle, Rachel, Anna all born in Mt. Pleasant, then they moved to Ashland Co., OH, and Thomas S. was born there in 1839. I really would like to connect William to ONE of the many Hunter families floating around at that time. Dad used to think they came from Ireland, but that could be because of his ggm Jane's birth there. Any new information out there? Charles? Ted
Do you happen to know who William Hunter, Patrick's brother, married? I'm looking for William Hunter, b. c1850?, m. possibly Sara Ann Kazee. One known child, George Hunter, m. Molly Ida Bishop. Thanks. Penny
Doug, I have the same theory you do about the Hunters of Northern Virginia being related. My husband's line starts in Dumfriesshire, Scotland: James Hunter m. Elizabeth Wallace and had these children: Margaret, bap. March 1816 James, b. June 19, 1818, d. July 19, 1894, Bothwell Farm, Vienna, Va. John Hunter, bap. July 1821 James (1818-1894) m. Grace Hamilton Craig and had these children: Lilias Ann Kennedy Hunter (Cameron), b. 1850 James Craig Hunter, b. 1852, remained in Lanarkshire, Scot. Eliza Wallace Hunter (Campbell), b.1854, resided in Shetland, Scot. John Craig Hunter, b. 1856, lived with wife Lucy S. Terrett Hunter in Vienna, Va. Susan Hunter, b. 1864, m. Albert Rhett Walker Agnes Wallace Hunter, b. 1866, m. Stuart Thornton Terrett, resided in Falls Church Grace Craig Hunter, b. 1868, m.Henry Clifford Cheston I have info on descendants on most of these people. James Hunter (1818-1894) was a well know translator and editor. A 1936 article from "The Scottish Educational Journal" states that Two of James' sons inherited a farm in Vienna, Va. from an Uncle. James and several daughters joined them there. The farm was Moorefield, owned by Jeremiah Moore. The Hunters renamed it Bothwell. I have to check my files, but I believe it had some connection to the Hunters of Ayr Hill. One of the sons of John Hunter (1746-1815) and Jane Broadwater was George Washington Hunter. He married the daughter of Jeremiah Moore, the owner of Moorefield and later Bothwell. I would be interested in comparing notes with you. Lynne Gantt
