    2. Jean wrote about Hunter/Bates connection.I have unearthed three or more Hunter family groups(not related,close-up) who were living in or around Philadelphia in early 1700's. The hell of it is that all groups were loaded with John,James and William given names(likewise Alexander and Peter). Any more info,Jean? Charles A. Hunter

    2. Hi Hunter Digest, I search for Mary E. Knight and John Hunter. Their children were Florence, Nora, John, Laura(Mattie) and Robert Lee (my paternal grandfather). This is very buried information. This family had to have lived together, at least, between 1890-1900. My grandfather was born July 10, 1896. I learned who Mary and John were by my grandfather's death certificate as he died in 1962. Thank-you so much for any consideration of this search. Carol

    2. I had an uncle, JAMES BATES, whose middle name was HUNTER and the family says, but does not prove, that Hunters were ancestors to the BATES. My uncle was JAMES HUNTER BATES and he was born at 2430 Mole street in Philadelphia in 1903 to WINFIELD SCOTT BATES and ELIZABETH MARIE BATES nee MOHR.[LIZZY] Who married in 1901. JAMES' sister MARY ELIZABETH BATES married JOSEPH EDWARD ALMOND on JUNE 28, 1922 and was my grandmother. Anyone that this information sounds familiar to? Please respond. I have his father as Fred L, but don't know whether that's a reliable source or not. However, the name Walter seems like an interesting possible family name, maybe?? Good luck. I am back in school and not able to spend much time on this, but maybe something will pan out later. Kate
