    1. [HUNTER-L] John C.L. Hunter/LA-MD
    2. Emma May Wightman
    3. To All, Can anyone out there help me with this man. On a his son, Francis O. Hunter, census listing for 1880 it is stated that his father was born in LA. Francis himself was born in Cecil Co., MD. The 1880 census says that his mother, Amelia (Owens) Hunter was born in MD. No dates are known about John and Amelia just that they were married on Oct. 30, 1841 in Elkton, MD. There is a good chance that they are buried in Hopewell Cemetery, Cecil Co., MD There is a family legend that John was a doctor and captured by the Indians. He had TB and the Indians tried to cure him by digging a hole and covering him up all but his head with dirt. They built a fire on top of him. The doctor is supposed to have written a book of Indian remedies. He was adopted by the tribe. His wife , an Indian girl, remarried a Mr. Jackson and they had seven girls. Amelia had one son, Francis Hunter, and then remarried a Phillip Jackson in 1848 in Cecil Co., MD. Everything seems to fit so far except to find out if John Hunter was a doctor and if Amelia is American Indian. If anyone could shed some light on this John for me that would be very helpful. Thank you, EM

    1. [HUNTER-L] Chief John BOWLES/BOLD HUNTER/DUWALI/DIWALI/THE BOWL
    2. Hello, I am looking to communicate with anyone who is descended from/researching the man: Chief John BOWLES/BOLD HUNTER/DUWALI/DIWALI/DUWALI'I/THE BOWL According to some he was born in 1756 and others say abt. 1750 and abt. 1740 in North Carolina. After movement through various Southern states he finally led many of the Cherokee people into Missouri and Arkansas before finally setting in East Texas in Van Zandt County. He was known as "The Cherokee Moses." Chief John BOWLES/BOLD HUNTER/DUWALI was killed on July 16, 1839, while leading 500 Indians of various tribes against 500 Texans the last engagement between Cherokees and whites in Texas. He was a friend of Sam HOUSTON, (adopted son of Chief JOLLY and member of the Cherokee tribe.) The information that I have on Chief John BOWLES includes that he was half Scottish, (his father's lineage,) and half Cherokee, (his mother's lineage.) Either just his father or his mother and his father were killed by whites in North Carolina. The BOWLES family is related to other Cherokee lines that I am also researching including the LIGHTFOOT/DUNCAN/BENGE and the WATTS. I show information and some descendants from his 3 known wives after he was abt. age 50 years old but nothing before that. I am interested in finding out if he is the same BOLD HUNTER/aka"Too-wah-yello," who is thought to be the father of Sofia/Sophia HUNTER, (mother: BEAVER TOTER/TOATER/"To-wah-yeh-leesa.") BEAVER TOTER/TOATER/"To-wah-yeh-leesa" is found on the 1835 Henderson Rolls and in the book, "EARLY CHEROKEE PLANTERS IN GEORGIA," and she was the owner of land in Georgia where she lived with sons: Beaver Toter on the Henderson Rolls 1835. Beaver Toater Ga. states where they were enrolled. Hog Toater Ga. Jim Toater Ga. Light Toater Al. Sofia/Sophia HUNTER married Hugh PIERCE, (RS,) born: abt. 1749 in Frederick Co., VA, (parents: ??,) and she later died in Texas and many of her descendants were also living in Van Zandt County. Looking forward to hearing if anyone out there might have any clues about any of this. In advance, I thank you. Sincerely, Bellinda

    1. [HUNTER-L] Robert Boston Hunter, Huntersville,Mecklenburg,NC
    2. donald hunter
    3. I am looking for information on Robert Boston Hunter. The town of Huntersville,NC was named after his family. It was named Craighead before 1873, but named Huntersville in 1873.There was alot of his family around in Long Creek Township, that influenced that area that they renamed Craighead to Huntersville. My family lived around there in 1700s and 1800s and still some do. My family tradition has it that Huntersville were named after the Hunters I am related to. I know our family lived in Anson,Mecklenburg,Cabarrus,Richmond and probably Rowan Co.,NC. and Huntersville is just north of Charlotte, and has cemetery or two that some of the 5 Hunter brothers that originally settled Mecklenburg are buried. My grandfather lived there with his family the Harry Avery Hunter, who left in 1870-71 to Pope Co.,AR then to TX after 1901 except parts my family. In the 1870 census index there are a Robert B. Hunter(age 52), A. Jones Hunter(age 25) and Harry Hunter age 55(to not same Harry A.) in Long Creek Township. I am trying to find if he is related to Harry A. Hunter's Parents who lived in Anson Co., the PeeDee area (William) Ephraim Hunter b. 1777-d. 1843, and Sarah E. Crocker b. Va. 1779- d. aft 1870in Anson/Stanly Co. at her dau and husband in that area named Anne P. and Edmond Ingram(Ingrams had large farm holdings in that area). There was also a William Hunter who had over a 1,000 acres in the PeeDee River area by 1773 and active in Anson/Richmond Cos.
