This is my first posting to this list. I am looking for descendants of Thomas HUNT. The following are notes that I have had handed down to me. "Thomas HUNT (Mary HUNT BURKE'S grandfather) came to Ballinamore as a child from Manion; married a Mary QUINN; home on Ormsby estate. Karindine....close to Ballinamore.; landlord was a "Black Anthony" Ormsby, a former drummer in Cromwell's army; he was mean and harsh, made his tenants work for nothing; chased them to the hills if they tried to put new panes of glass in the windows. Later, Ormsby descendents came from Sligo; they were nice family; came from Germany; the old lady looked like Queen Victoria; the boys were killed in 1914, none of the girls married; there was a third son in Canada who came back about time Aunt Margaret married; he didn't know about his uncle Black Anthony; he used to buy meat from the Ruanne's store and his daughter played with Margaret; he felt badly about his mean uncle; taxes were so high he sold the estate; now belongs to the St. John of God nursing order. When John HUNT, son of Thomas HUNT and father of Mary Josef HUNT BURKE left the family home at Kiltimagh, Co. Mayo in the 1840's, the three month sailing boat trip to the New World was long and arduous. He became sick aboard ship and was nursed back to health by a young Irish friend, Miss Bridget DALY. He married her soon after arriving in America, but fearing his family's reaction to thsi hasty move, did not write to them for many years. They feared him dead, and mourned for him for seven years. However, a Mr. O'Reagan, who knew John in Mayo, saw him in America and told him to write to his family for they had been mourning him....so at last, John wrote home and told his family about his new life in America. Mary Josef HUNT was b. 6 April 1856 in Barlow, Ohio. She married Thomas BURKE 3 June 1873, St. Thomas Church, Winona, MN. This is my great grandmother and grandfather. Any connections?
