I am looking for the parents of my Sarah Hunt. They are: William Hunt, Jr. and Tabitha ?. Sarah was born 1690 in Surry co., VA, married George Jordan II in 1712 and died in 1761 in Granville co., NC. I know nothing else about her parents. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tina- Before spending a lot of time on Sarah, who I can't find , how does William Hunt of Charles City County VA with a wife Tabitha (unknown) sound? They had land in Nottoway River in Surrey County. "Miscellaneous Records of HUNT/Va. Also: William Hunt of Sussex/Surry by Mrs. Gheesling. From 1688 through 1694, Mr. William Hunt is found in court records of Charles City. In 1691 Mr. William Hunt repatented 215 acres in James City Co. that his father, William Hunt, had purchased from Rice Hoe in 1656. As Captain William Hunt, he patented 159 acres in Charles City Co. in 1691. In 1692, Captain William Hunt's house was designated as a meeting house to settle the bounds of James City Co. & Charles City Co. In Oct. 1701, as Captain Wm. Hunt, he patented 4,342 acres in Charles City Co. on both sides of the Nottoway River. This land was below the James River and when taxed and when sold by his children it was in Surry Co. On Dec. 19, 1711, as Major William Hunt of Charles City Co., he patented 140 acres in Surry Co., and, on 1 Apr. 1714 William Hunt & Tabitha, his wife, of Charles City Co., sold land on the Nottoway River in Surry Co. William Hunt made and dated his will on 14 May 1714 Charles City Co. It cannot now be found; however, it was referred to in a deed in 1744 when John Macon, who married his daughter, Ann, and their son, Gedion Macon, sold 200 acres in Surry Co. that was left to Ann by her father, William Hunt in his will. The land was then listed as in Albemarle Parish, North side of Nottoway River, Surry Co. If this is s/o Wm. "the Baconite", then his father was 51 years old when he was born--? And---this Wm. did not marry until age 44??? "He was commissioned Captain of the Charles City County militia between 20 Oct 1691 and 29 April 1692. He was a justice (of the quorum) by 1699 and achieved the rank of Major about 1705". WIFE NOTES: Tabitha UNKNOWN Birth(1): General: According to Tn. Cousins, by Worth S. Ray, pg. 643, and FGS of Mrs. Ruby Catherine Baker Slay, 1622 54th St., Sacramento, Ca. 95819, published in Yalobusha Pioneer, Vol. IV, #4, p. 135, her name was Edloe. Michael W. Berry in his "The Hunt Family" published in the Virginia Genealogist, states that this cannot be proven, "various published genealogies have stated that she was a Minge or an Edloe.....It is possible that she was Tabitha (Underwood) Bowler, widow of Maj. Thomas Bowler of Rappahannock whose will was proved 2 July 1679. Tabitha (Underwood) Bowler was the half-sister of John Edloe." She died prior to June 1717 when her inventory was presented in Charles City County Court. CHILD NOTES: William HUNT Birth(1): Death(1): Burial(1): General: Buried close to the grave of William Hunt I at Batchelor's Point, as "William Hunt, aged 13". Tombstone states that he was the "Eldest son of William Hunt" and was "aged 11 yeares 8 months and 28 days". CHILD NOTES: John HUNT Birth(1): Death(1): General: Was living when his father died. and signed his inventory with his brother, George Hunt. Died by 1716 when the following was dated: "Since the death of John Hunt, Su'a Hunt, Admx., hath possessed herself of that part that was William Hunt's deceased, together with John Hunt's estate." See Gheesling, pg. 35/36; also, "The Hunt Family" by Michael W. Berry. The estate records were proved by John Hunt's sisters, Mary Minge, Ann Hunt, Martha Edloe and by Henry Blanks. "John Hunt, along with his brother George Hunt, his uncle John Hunt and his first cousin Turner Hunt(t) signed the 1710 'Petition of Charles City County' requesting that the part of James City County above the Chickahominy River be added to Charles City County" (from The Hunt Family by Michael West Berry, (pg. 122 in the Virginia Genealogist). CHILD NOTES: George HUNT Birth(1): Death(1): General: In 1710 Eleanor (Wyche) & Francis Mayberry deeded George Hunt 100 acres on the Nottoway River in Surry Co. This seems to be the "home plantation" left Eleanor by her father, Henry Wyche in his will of 1712/14. See Gheesling, pg. 36. George dated his will 2 November 1725. It was recorded 2 Feb. 1725/26 and did not list a wife or designate any children or grandchildren, but did will land to sons of Valentine Minge, dec'd. George Hunt also signed the 1710 "Petition" along with his brother John Hunt, uncle John Hunt and first cousin, Turner Hunt(t). He served as justice of the peace of CCC in 1714. A George Hunt married Elizabeth Poindexter on 24 Feb. 1709/10 in St. Peter's Parish, New Kent County, but if this marriage was for this George Hunt, Elizabeth (Poindexter) Hunt was dead by 2 Nov. 1725, when George Hunt signed his will. This document indicates neither wife nor children. George Hunt's uncle, John Hunt and Samuel Harwood, Jr., were named as executors. CHILD NOTES: Mary HUNT Birth(1): Death(1): General: Mary married Robert Minge (1) and Wm. Allin (Allen) (2), & Field Jefferson (3rd). See Tyler's Quarterly, Vol.V, for account of Mary's third marriage to Field Jefferson, Lunenburg Co., Va. Prenuptial agreement executed 31 Oct. 1753. This marriage agreement was witnessed by George Baskerville, Hutchins Burton & Rubin Morgin. George Baskerville m. Martha Minge and Hutchins Burton m. Tabitha Minge, daughters of Mary Hunt Minge Allen Jefferson. CHILD NOTES: Anne HUNT Birth(1): Death(1): General: Ann Hunt's marriage to John Macon is confirmed by a deed recorded in Surry Co, dated April l, 1714. [Ann and John Macon's son, Gideon Macon moved to Granville Co., N. C. and married Priscilla Jones. Their first child (of Gideon & Pricilla (Jones) Hunt, was Ann Hunt Macon, who married Capt. John Alston.] Berry states: "Ann Hunt was unmarried on 8 Nov. 1717 when Jones Williams of Surry County signed his will leaving 'a horse had of John Stevens to my kinswoman Ann Hunt, and all jewels, gold, silver, goods and chattels.' "Williams named Ann's brother George Hunt as executor and the will was witnessed by Ann Hunt's future husband, John Macon, and by her brother-in-law, Matthew Edloe. Shortly after this date, Ann Hunt married John Macon of St. Peter's Parish, New Kent County, son of Capt. Gideon Macon. Ann (Hunt) Macon died in St. Peter's Parish on 15 Feb. 1734/5."
