    2. The female line is more trickier to trace back. The test itself is called mtDNA. These gene are passed from mother to her children and the father can not pass this down. That is in the normal sense. There has been a freak incident where the father mtDNA did get pass on. The mtDNA from male is located in the tail and we know the tail get broken off when it meet the egg as in it shouldn't get in. There is however a database for mtDNA information at www.mitosearch.org. The tricky part is the female name changes over time such as mother line goes Bullard/French/Terry/Barrett and etc. With my own I only have 2 other people who match me and all of us come out of Virginia. As in my father case he has about 10 matches a majority of them from Ireland and Scotland on the direct mother line.
