Will of Eliza Hunt made out 6 Feb 1764 & executed 29 May 1764. Names John, Benjamin, Philip, Catherine, Ann, Thomas Hunt and son-in-law William Moreland. Notes for THOMAS HUNT (iii -- son of Thomas1 Hunt): Widowed in 1830 Wilson Co, TN. Has 1 male / 1 female 20-30, 1 female 15-20, 1 male 10-15, 2 males 0-5. There could be a married son's family here, as Thomas should not have infant children -- the 2 males. It is possible the male 20-30 & one female, either 20-30 or 15-20, are husband & wife, and the 0-5 males belong to them. In 1820, in WIlson Co, TN with 111001 01010 (before 1775) This is presumably Thomas as on page 377 is Matthis (Matthias or Tice) Houk (Hawk/Hauk), then John Webb, Hardy Hunt, Jesse Hunt, William F. Webb, John Babb, Jacob Mayo, Matthew Horn, THomas Hunt, John Hunt, Thomas Babb -- last 3 next door to each other. According to the census in 1830, he is 60-70, which does not jive with his pension application that says he is 86 years old in 1833. He estimates that he moved to Halifax Co, VA and lived there about 30 years. He then states to have lived in Wilson Co, TN for about 20-22 years. Now, that would place his emmigration to Wilson County, TN around 1810-1813, his move to Halifax Co, VA around 1780, and he was in the militia in Charles County, MD from around 1776 to his discharge in 1779. According to the testimony of George Russ, he was 86 in 1833, so he is born ca1747. He would have been about 30 during the Revolution, not impossible. Additionally, he therefore should have been in the 70-80 or even 80-90 category in the 1830 census. Need to get an original copy of the 1830 Wilson Co, TN census to verify the placement of his tick mark. A good cross-check, though, is that Matthias Hawk gives his age as 56 & Rial J. Atkinson as 37, and both of these ages agree within 1 year of those both men gave on the 1850 census. I am inclined to believe the ca1747 age date. Notes for JOHN HUNT: Son Abraham states in Rev War pension file that Abraham was born in Charles County, MD in 1762, and moved to Charlotte Co, VA in ca1779. Entered the Revolution in Charlotte Co, VA as a substitute for John Lee (date either not given or not copied). Indicated in 1833 that he was in Wayne Co, KY for 30 years, so he would have left Wilkes Co, NC in 1795-1800. Indicates 16 years in Wilkes Co, NC prior to move to Wayne CO, KY, so John would have moved to Wilkes Co, NC in ca1780-1785. Enlisted again in Wilkes Co, NC a few days after the Battle of Eutaw Springs, and a 3rd time as substitute for the drafted Alexander Richardson. Child of JOHN HUNT is: i. I descend from Stephen Hunt, one of the sons of John and Rhoda. It is believed that John Hunt Jr. was the brother of Abraham who lived in Wayne Co., KY. From the Revolution War Pension papers, it shows Abraham born in 1762 in Charles Co., MD. The family moved to Virginia and during the Revolution, the father John moved his family to NC. John jr. came to Wayne and Pulaski Co. shortly before 1800. John Jr.'s first wife most have died before 1804 when he md. Rhoda Chaney. I have a lot of information on the children of John Jr., but not much on his ancestors. Let me know if you would like a report on the children. Many moved on to Illinois and Missouri.
