Also, for those that might not know, many books on genealogy, as well as some family bibles and compiled family histories are on sale at the online auction, www.ebay.com. This could be of substantial help to researchers. This is not meant as SPAM, because it does relate directly to anyone doing genealogical research. Just log on to www.ebay.com, then search on Genealogy, or bible, or family names, or states (by two-letter abbreviation) and counties. The site is user friendly with instructions on how to use the system, how to search, and how to bid. I've found lots of good research material there on families and history, and most of it at a really good price. It's also a good place to sell your research materials after you have finished with them. No, I am not a sales person for EBAY. Anyone that has additional questions about this can contact me, I'll be glad to help any way that I can. The reels may be available at other locations (such as LDS family research centers), but the boxes are original documents that you can view at the Archives. The people at the Archives are very helpful, and most are knowledgeable about genealogy and the history of NC, and they are also open on Saturdays (but closed on Monday). The Archives in Raleigh is an excellent place to start any genealogical research (whether in NC, the south, or anywhere in U.S., as they have much information, including census records from many states). After a trip to the Archives, you will need to supplement your information with a trip to the county courthouse for the county that you are researching, but you should have a good idea of where (and when) your family was in that area after a trip to the Archives. I know that Raleigh may not be local for many folks, but if you are serious about genealogy, you owe it to yourself to spend some time there (and don't expect to find everything in one day, take it a piece at the time, follow one or two families on each trip rather than try to establish your full line from you to ADAM in one Saturday afternoon. Good family research (that is thorough and well documented) may take YEARS, maybe even GENERATIONS, so be patient, get what you can, and above all, document, document, document...that way, someone may be able to expand on your research later.
