Hello HUNTers, A short while ago I posted a query to this list, and others, regarding a conflict I had with the name of the wife of Ambrose HUNT, son of Joseph L. HUNT, of Halifax Co., VA. If you remember, I said that I had always *assumed* ( I have no definite proof) that the wife's name was Rachel Tunstall, whom Ambrose married at some unknown date in Halifax, Lunenburg or Charlotte Co. VA. Then I find the new LDS FamilySearch site that Ambrose HUNT had married Rachel REED in Greensberg, Green Co., KY about 1789. (??!!??) Green County, Kentucky did not even exist in 1789 let alone Greensberg! In 1777 Fincastle Co., VA was divided into three new counties; Washington, Montgomery and Kentucky. In 1780 Kentucky Co., VA was divided into Jefferson, Fayette and Lincoln Counties, VA. Over the next few years several new counties were formed by dividing the original three, and Green County was formed out of Lincoln and Nelson in 1792. On 1 June 1792, Kentucky became a State. Further search of the LDS FamilySearch site revealed an Ancestral File that lists this Ambrose HUNT as born about 1760 in Greensberg, Green Co., KY, and was the son of John HUNT and Catherine (HUNT)----------. The AF also shows a marriage to Rachel REED about 1780 in Greensberg, Green Co., KY. I have searched through all my notes and Felicia and Clara's File and can find no John HUNT (many, many of those) who had a wife Catherine. Does anyone have any information on this Ambrose HUNT, s/o John and NOT the Ambrose HUNT, s/o Joseph of Halifax Co., VA And what was he doing in Green Co., KY before Daniel Boone and others ever came though "The Gap?"
