OBITUARY IN THE PORTERVILLE RECORDER ON MONDAY JULY 12, 1999: "JOHN HUNT STRATHMORE - John Hunt who lived here for 51 years and was a retired farm laborer, died in Visalia Friday, July 9, 1999. He was 92. Visitation will be held from 1 - 8 p.m. today at Webb-Sanders Funeral Home in Lindsay. A graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Lindsay-Strathmore Cemetery near Lindsay, with the Rev. Dale Hunter officiating. Mr. Hunt was born in Forestburg, Texas. He was a member and deacon of Jesus Name Church in Plainview. Survivors include three sons, V.M. Hunt of Waterford, John Hunt of Strathmore and Bruce Hunt of Lindsay; a daughter, June Peery of Plainview; a brother, Malcom Hunt of Modesto; a sister, Rachel Gentry of Porterville; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Verna Mae (Simmons) Hunt, whom he married on September 6, 1933. Her death on August 21, 1989 ended nearly 56 years of marriage.
