Hello Friends and Cousins, I have about decided that this passion called genealogy is a lot like a baseball game. It is the bottom of the ninth, the score is tied, runners are on first and second. You think you have this pitcher figured out! Common sense tells you he is going to throw you a slider or knuckle ball, hoping you will pop up. But you know better; you are ready; you are going to smack that sucker to right field, right between the first and second baseman, because first is holding the runner tight and second is much too far to the left. Here comes the windup....and the pitch is a blazing fast ball, high and inside.......and your dreams of glory go up in a puff of dust from the catchers mitt. Okay..... here is my dilemma. My G-G-Grandfather, Ambrose HUNT of Halifax Co., VA, son of Joseph L. HUNT, of same had a wife named Rachel. That much I am certain of! Oral family history, and information found at Taylor Co. and Green Co., KY Historical Societies say her surname was TUNSTALL. Ambrose and Rachel named their youngest son, born 19 Jul 1796, Tunstall HUNT, we have all supposed, after Rachel's family. It is a proven fact that Ambrose and family knew, and were friends with Thomas TUNSTALL of Halifax Co., VA. Now comes the fast ball! Now that the Mormon Church has placed their IGI and other genealogical records on line, I thought I would do some confirmation of what I already "knew." Their IGI records show Ambrose HUNT married Rachel REED about 1789 in Greensburg, Green Co., KY. (film number 1985529) It has always been my understanding that Ambrose did not arrive in Kentucky until 1795. He wrote a power of attorney, signed 26 Sep 1795 (see Halifax Co., VA Deed Book 16, page 519) giving his brother, Joseph HUNT, Jr. power to sell property he owned in Halifax Co. Ambrose lists himself "of Phayette (Fayette) County, Kentucky." Also, page 518 of the reference listed, Ambrose HUNT signs deed for sale of property in Halifax Co., VA to Thomas Scates. Ambrose HUNT is listed in 1985 Heads of Household, Halifax Co., VA with seven white souls. Ambrose's oldest known child, Simeon HUNT, was born about 1778 in Halifax Co., VA. I have never been able to find a marriage record for Ambrose HUNT and Rachel TUNSTALL in the records of Halifax Co., VA, but have not completely checked Pittslyvania Co. records. Cousins; Friends; can you help me shed some light on this conflict. I accept the fact that Ambrose may have been married more than once, but that most likely would have been much earlier, and would have been in Virginia, not Green co., KY. Thanks all, M.
