My gg grandmother was Matilda Hunt, born in GA on 8 Nov 1813 and died 3 Dec 1889 in Russell County, AL to John Hunt and Elizabeth ?. John died 15 June 1831. Matilda married Mark A. Burnett in 1842 in Taliaferro County, GA. She had a brother named Hezekiah Hunt who married Dovie Fallin on 3 July 1845 in Taliaferro County, GA. I have Matilda and Mark's family bible. In it is the name of Thomas Hunt - no date, John Hunt, and Henry E. Hunt who died in the Civil War in 1864 Henry could also have been a son, but it doesn't say. It mostly gives information on the families who descended from Mark and Matilda. As a child I was always into genealogy. My grandmother said Matilda's father came from NC and VA. I cannot prove that. Do you happen to have this family in your database? Thank you in advance. ******************************************************************* Response:: I do have an isolated family that could be yours considering that people make mistakes in making entries: John Hunt b. abt 1780 m. 15 Oct 1803 Greene Co., GA d. 15 July 1831 in Green County. M. to Elizabeth Sorrel who died 1870-1879 Green County. Daughter was Matilda b. abt 1804 but could be 1813. This is pretty close. Here is the note accompanying John: War of 1812 Pension Application: O.W. Inv.Ctf. #223?, O.W. File #47669, W.O.W. #15254 Ref., W.O. #6400, W.C. #2267, B.L.W. #57181-80-50 and #7169-80-55. Served in Capt. John Browning's Co. Georgia Militia from 23 Aug. 1813 to 10 mar. 1814. This soldier served at the Battle of Autossee, certificate of service contained in file. married Elizabeth Sorrell, 15 Oct. 1803 in Greene Co., Ga. Soldier died 15 July 1831. Widow died 27 Aug. 187?, both in Greene Co. Left Will in Green Co. dated June 27, 1831; probated Sept. 5, 1831:Book F; pg. 155. "---to Juriah Sorrell $1.25 'as his entire interest in my estate', to wife, Elizabeth, to live with my children and they are to support her during her lifetime or widowhood, residue to be divided between my seven children, viz. Matilda J., William E., George S., James T., D.R., Henry E., and Elizabeth A. Hunt." Exec. William Cone and Thomas G. Jones Wit.: Thos. Mosley, John Mercer, Sam. D. Durham. END. ********************************************************************** * Methodology: I looked for a Matilda with a father John and a mother Elizabeth in my ("Felicia's file) southern data base. It took less than three minutes! BINGO!! The requester has said this is her family! Some times one gets lucky! Sandy in Lubbock
