Sandy Hunt in Lubbock Texas: ************************************************************************* Descendants of James G. HUNT - 1 Nov 1998 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FIRST GENERATION 1. James G. HUNT was born on 24 Jul 1732 in Virginia. He died before Feb 1805 in Robertson Co., Tennessee. Was listed 5th and as "under age 21" in his father's (Henry) will in 1750. He received "land above my plantation wheron I now live adjoining Bufalloe (sic) Creek, & negro boy, Cato. He was evidently born in or near Brunswick Co., Va., and was living with his father in 1750 in Granville Co., N.C. on land that fell into Bute Co. in 1764 and into Franklin Co. in 1779. He was married by about 1754, as 1st child was born 17 Sept. 1755 (per family records). See manuscript of Mrs. Catherine Bond Gheesling (Mrs. Frank A.) of 3102 Bellingham Dr. NE Atlanta, Ga. 30346. Dated 1987. In Atlanta Archives. James Sr. left a will dated 22 Aug 1803 in Robertson Co., Tennessee. It was proved in Feb. 1805. Executors were his sons,Sion and John. He listed all his children and left legacies to each of $1.00 except Shadrack was left l negro, Milly; and William was left 100 acres, part of homeplace, l feather bed and 1 saw. William lived in Tenn. Mathew was left 1 black mare and colt (lived in Tn.?) John was left 540 acres, rest of homeplace, 1 negro, Sylvia, 1 mare, 1 gun, 1 bed and furniture, all plantation tools, and all that was left to his mother, Mary (widow), in his father's will. In another account of this family (copied in Ky. Gen. Soc. at Frankfort from their files in 1986) it gives the wife of James G. Sr. as: "Mary Gabrielle LaFontaine" This account is not signed and there is no indication of who submitted it. He was married to Mary RACKLEY about 1754 in Virginia. Mary RACKLEY was born about 1735 in Virginia. She died after 1803 in Tennessee?. Mrs Frank A. Gheesling in her very fine treatise on "The William Huntt/Hunt Family of Southside Virginia" (Found in Atlanta Georgia Archives) states: "Mary's name has not yet been proven. It is possible that she was the 'daughter, Mary Hunt, listed in the 1767 will of John Rackley of Bute Co.,N.C'...." The name of James' wife in his will of 1803, is Mary, and so it is presumed he married only once. James G. HUNT and Mary RACKLEY had the following children: 2 i.
