Source: The Huntsville Daily Times-Aug. 8, 1926 California Wonam Traces Relationship to Founder of Huntsville. A few weeks ago George R. Hunt, clerk of the -----terior court of this city received a card from A.G. Proctor, formerly a citizen of Huntsville, but for several years past of Santa Ana, Calif. informing him that he had met a lady there who claims to be a direct descentant of John Hunt, the first white settler in Huntsville and for whom the city is named, a Mrs. Phillips who asked Mr. Proctor to ask Mr. Hunt to send her a picture of the Big Spring which he sent at the same time asking the lady to send him a communication about her family history. A few day ago Mr. Hunt received the information that -----, which is published in full as follows: Huntsville, AL My dear Mr. Hunt: Mr. Proctor brought me your postal asking me to write you about relatives and my connection in the family. My father was David Nelson Hunt, who was a son of John Hunt, in turn a son of John Hunt for whom Huntsville Alabama was named. My Grandfather Hunt married Rhoda Henderson of North Carolina, a daughter of Thomas Henderson a captain in the Rev. War. They had nine children--Samuel Fidellus, later of Jackson Miss, John, Thomas and David and daughters, Sallie, Pollie, Cordelia, Catherine, Orlena (I have these names which were sent me and this one is not very plain, but there seems to be Narcissa Hunt (the writer's mother, who married William Fowchee? in Tazwell, Tenn.) Grandfather Hunt went from Tenn. to Missouri and settled in Bolivar, Polk county. He was elected to the State Legislature and died while attending the session in Jefferson City and is buried in the State plot, having died the 27th of March 1847.
