    1. Re: [HUNT] Book--Pioneers of Old Hopewell
    2. Hi Allen, I noticed the name William Bradford Hunt and believe he is the brother to my Amos Hunt, both of whom are sons of John Hunt Jr. and Jane Coates. If this is the William Bradford Hunt you have mentioned, I have a little information that may shed more light on his lineage. You are correct, the Familysearch.org site does have an incorrect line, however, William does still descend from Ralph Hunt according to other researchers. Here is how: Ralph Hunt John Hunt and Joanna [Johanna] ? John Hunt and Margaret Moore Daniel Hunt and Susannah [Greene?] and Gershom Hunt and Eunice Fitz Randolph John Hunt and Charity Hunt (these two are cousins) John Hunt, Jr. (who married Jane Coates) William Bradford Hunt The familysearch.org site lists the lineage with William descending through Ralph Hunt's son Samuel and his wife Mary Burroughs. This is not correct according to 2 wills. More information can be found at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hunt/archive/bios/hunthist.txt This site is "A compilation of Mitchell J. Hunt's manuscript on early Hunt history prepared by Sanford B. Hunt III" Another great site that explains why 3 descendants of Ralph Hunt (Jonathan [mentioned below as the son of John and Margaret], Gersham, and Daniel Hunt, all three brothers) moved from New Jersey to North Carolina. It also gives this information concerning Ralph's son John, and his son John, who married Margaret Moore: "...The Hunts were on Long Island on June 4, 1714 when John, Sr. (b. c1658, son of Ralph of Newton) bought 500 acres in Hopewell, bounded E by Stony Brook, N by Samuel Davis, W by Capt. hannel and S by Johannes Lawrenson. On March 7, 1715, John Hunt and wife Joanna of Newton, sold 100 acres in Newton. (Joanna Hunt, widow, joined Pennington Presbyterian Church August 31, 1733.) Johanna Hunt's son, John, Jr. (b. c1690 in Newton) married at Newton February 8, 1714 Margaret Moore, probably daughter of Gersham Moore. John and Margaret Hunt's son, Jonathan (October 17, 1717 - September 5, 1782) married c1737 Mary, daughter of Andrew and Sarah (Stout) Smith, Jr. (This is the same Jonathan Hunt who became a founder of Jersey Settlement, one of the most prominent men in the area, and a Colonel in the Rowan Militia)." also: "In January 1675/7 the will of Ralph Hunt, Sr. was proved at Newton. In 1698 his sons, Ralph, Jr., Samuel, daughter Ann and husband Theophilus Phillips, and daughter-in-law Johanna (widow of John Hunt) had deeds in Maidenhead (Lawrence), N.J., where they joined the Presbyterian Church. [John & Joanna (Wilson?) Hunt had a son John Hunt born c 1690 at Newtown, L.I., who m. Feb 8, 1714 Margaret Moore in Newtown's Presby. Ch.; she was perhaps d/o Gersham. Moore, and descended from Presbyterian Rev. John Moore. John Hall, D.D., History of the Presbyterian Church of Trenton, N.J.]." It is titled: "Origins of the Jersey Settlement of Rowan County, North Carolina First Families of Jersey Settlement" By: Ethel Stroupe 1996 http://www.tamu.edu/ccbn/dewitt/mckstmerjersey.htm The information above was written with the help of a lady named Gloria Padach who wrote the following concerning the Hunts: "John and Margaret (Moore) Hunt had 9 children: Three of whom went to Rowan Co. NC 1. Wilson Hunt born 9 Nov 1714 died 26 1782 Hopewell NJ. 2. Jonathan Hunt, see below: 3. Charity Hunt b. 1719 mar Edward Hunt (a cousin) 4. Johannah bor c1710 died in Rowan Co.
