    2. Catherine: I am interested in your Benjamin Hunt of CT, born ca 1795.. I am trying to place a Ruth Hunt in a MA, CT, or RI family. She was born ca 1760/61. I have her marriage in Berkshire Co. MA in 1786 (to Eseck Brown). The name Benjamin was used for their first grandchild. I am wondering if the name Benjamin came from Ruth Hunt's side of the family, as I don't see it used elsewhere. Do you have any other information on your Hunt family in CT? Mine have no connection to NC. Thanks. Nancy Sicotte

    3. I suspect Hibbert/Hibbard/Hibbart was born 1720-1730. I don't know whether they were English or Irish, since, apparently, we have both in our blood. I had one person suggest that Hibbard was born of John, in New Hampshire, but I've never been able to verify that. I do know that some of his offspring were born on Campobello, others on Deer Island, and some in Lubec, ME, which, of course, is today just across the bridge. I think there's a pretty good chance that Hibbard died in Lubec. At least one of his descendants -- Herbert, my g-grandfather -- was a steamship captain who was captured by the Confederacy and imprisoned in Andersonville. His wife, Jennie or Jane Scaden, of Chicago, went with him, and was one of the few women imprisoned in Andersonville. Neither of them were housed inside the stockade, and they apparently had a child, Louis, while there. There is no mention of Louis upon their release, and, so far, no death or cemetery record for him, either. Should anyone have information on Hibbard's ancestry, or what happened to Louis, I would be most appreciative. 3. HI Dennis! Thank you for your site! A lot of first names were familiar but not the last names or where they were located. Interesting that some married Stevensons. My James Hunt found his second wife in (so the story goes) Brockville. Her last name was Stephenson/Stevenson. The Robert Hunt I found that married a Decker was around Stratford way ( I can't find the paper at the moment) It was at least his second marriage & he was in his 60's. As of yet, I see no connection :( T'rah, Cynthia

    3. Hi Steve! The information you gave doesn't seem familiar. What time frame do you have for Hibbert Hunt? Do you know if the Hunt name you're searching for are Irish or English? Mine were Irish. There is the mystery of Robert Hunt who came from Ireland & married into the Decker family that were also married into James' family. He didn't live in the area but how did he happen to find his wife in the Beverly Twp. Did they have any children that went to the States I wonder? James Hunt's eldest James Jr. had a son that went to the States. His name was David born 1863. I don't have all his family but I know he had one as I've just this year made contact with a descendent of his. Is that date too late? I can try & ask her if she knows that name you gave. I'll keep that name in mind when searching though. T'rah, Cynthia

    1. [HUNT] Benajah Hunt and Louisa Sadbury
    2. O'Briant, Catherine
    3. Hello Hunt researchers Would anyone here happen to have references and/or additional information pertaining to a Benajah aka: Benjamin HUNT b. abt 1795? I'm trying to back track his origins and believe him to be the brother to my 4th great grandfather Zebulon LeBarron HUNT b. Aug 04, 1796 "said to have been born in CT"-d. Jan 14, 1867 Currie, Bladen Co., NC >From what I've been finding so far the evidence is looking like a strong possiblity...2 references found states Benajah HUNT is possibly from MD but 1 reference states CT. Ironically since delving into this HUNT family group I'm finding an intertwined link into my direct HUNT lineage with the same similar origins. Besides census records found in Onslow and New Hanover Co., NC, I found a marriage bond in Onslow Co., NC: North Carolina Marriage Bonds, 1741-1868 Groom: Benajah HUNT Bride: Louisa SADBURY (the closest link I've found to SADBURY is Stokley SADBURY "variant spellings" found in Onslow and New Hanover Co.'s NC) Bond Date: 06 Mar 1833 Bond #: 000093366 Level Info: North Carolina Marriage Bonds, 1741-1868 ImageNum: 006985 County: Onslow Record #: 01 045 Bondsman: Seth KING Witness: D W SANDERS I found reference of a Benajah HUNT on a 1800 census record in Suffield, Hartford Co., CT. It's indicates 1 male under the age of 5 which would put this Benajah at about the same age. (HUNT, Benajah 1-0-0-0-1-1-0-1-0-0) The name indicated on the same pg and the line above was: (HUNT, Amos 0-0-1-0-1-0-1-0-2-1) Because of the usual spelling of the 1st name I've been searching the paper trail in which I've found this family....they ending up in New Hanover Co., NC splitting into Pender Co., NC....close-by the county lines. I was able to verify 2 sons: Noah and Sylvester HUNT off the NARA Civil War rolls then I lost then; 2 other sons in New Hanover : Ahosursa Henry (reared 2 sons) and William Wright HUNT (never married) Benajah/Benjamin HUNT appears on the 1850 New Hanover Co., NC census w/wife Louisa "Sadbury" and children. But then on the 1860 thru 1880 census wife: Louisa appears to be widowed. Benajah HUNT appears on the Will of Thomas Coston in Onslow Co., NC which also mentions 2 others that are married into my direct HUNT lineage. Thank you in advance Most appreciated! Catherine

    3. Don't know if this fits in with your research, but one of my ancestors, Hibbard/Hibbart Hunt, was, along with Josiah Flagg, the first white settlers of Campobello Island. I have not been able to identify Hibbard's ancestors. It is possible they came to the U.S. through Canada. Does any of this sound like a match? If so, would be pleased to share everything I have. 3. Hello! I'm new to this Hunt message. I'm trying to locate others researching James Hunt. His parents as far as I know were John & Mary Hunt. They had at least two children that came to Canada in the 1830's from Ireland. We have Cavan listed but I'm starting to doubt it's the County Cavan, as I've found nothing in my search. Other Counties have Cavan as a townland though that I need to research. Margaret Hunt (1773) who married a James Hunt - three children I know of were Jane (1808), John (1810) & Elizabeth (1816). They were all born in Ireland. Her brother, James Hunt (1776) who we think married a Mary ( she & any children they might have had didn't survive the journey to Canada. After he got settled in Canada Beverly Twp., he remarried Sarah Stephenson. There might have been another brother Robert Hunt born in the late 1700's unless it's Margaret's first born or brother to her husband. Does this family sound familiar to anyone? I'd love to share information/photos. T'rah, Cynthia

    2. I'm looking for a William Hunt b. 1850 (estimate) who married Norah Connors. They had at least two children Martin Hunt b. 1868-70 and Mary b. 1870-72. Mary and Martin arrive in US in 1887-9 and Mary marries John Fitzgerald in NYC in 1892; by 1900 census they are living in Jersey City NJ. Martin is living with his sister's family. Norah Hunt dies in 1906 in the US but I can't find any record of her coming over from Ireland. She is buried in Jersey City. I think William may have died in Ireland. Mary told her children that she lived in Limerick - don't know if that was the county or the city. I also don't know what happened to Martin Hunt after 1900 census. Eileen Healy
