    3. Hi Donna, I knew of one Gaspe area Hunt family - I had been under the impression they were Irish so hadn't followed up closely. I don't know if there is a connection or not. Do you know where they came from? Do you have the children's names? For my lot, Ambrose Hunt's sons were named Henry, Peter, Cornell, John - The name Cornell I believe was from Sarah Wiltse's family. While it doesn't seem to have been a hard rule, mine did seem to honour family members when naming children. 3. Would anyone have any information on a Jeremiah HUNT who had a son Ambrose? Ambrose was born 1764 M. Sarah Wiltse b. 1771 We believe Ambrose appears in the 1790 Census for Beekman Dutchess Co. NY with a wife and 1 slave. He then seems to appear in Hillsdale, Columbia Co. NY with 4 boys and 3 girls (there is one more than the family bible names), his wife and 1 slave. By the 1810 census Ambrose & family are gone from Hillsdale and a Peletiah HUNT of Hillsdale who in 1810 has a slave he didn't have in 1800. We have documentation showing Ambrose witnessed land transactions in the Eastern Twps of what is now Quebec in 1803 and 1808. His being in Quebec by 1803 agrees with the birth information given by his daughter Charlotte HUNT. Older childern give their birth place as the US although they and or their children are fuzzy on which exactly where. In 1805 Jeremiah HUNT of St Armand, deeded land in Bolton Twp., Brome Co. Quebec to "his son" Ambrose. While we don't as yet have a copy of the document, in 1804 a Philip HUNT transferred land to Jeremiah HUNT. If anyone thinks the name of Ambrose's children would be helpful I can post that information. Cheers, Anna

Hello Cousins and fellow Hunt researchers: I recently looked over the William Hunt/Sarah Mills family lineage provided by Elaine Rowland of Dallas, Texas, and noted that I am in that family line. I also noted that Elaine Rowland (who published her work in 1982) is not listed in Dallas, Texas any longer. Is there anyone who is of this family line and/or who can tell me how to contact a cousin in this family? Can you tell me how to contact Elaine Rowland (if she is still living)? 1. Re: [HUNT] Question about Ancestory.com
    2. Depends on what you want. My personal pros & cons: Genealogy: 1) Hosts a webpage with the subscription -- I use this & put a LOT of files, info & etc. on it. I don't know if you can get that w/o a subscription...? 2) Access to the Family Tree Maker CD collections, which is a lot of data that is out-of-print or hard to find. 3) Census records are extra -- and I'm not impressed with their index -- they use the old published ones, which are spotting & inaccurate. Ancestry seems to have better indexes, plus fast loads (on cable modem at least), and full-jpeg imaging that you can save to disk. Wouldn't bother doing the census at Genealogy.com 4) Lots of family history books & local records in those sections. Most out-of-print, hard to find in libraries -- if they will even lend it out, even on interlibrary loan. 5) NY & NJ records section seems good to me. Ancestry: 1) Census is king -- one-stop-shopping for all your census needs, with images, start to 1930. 2) Strong military records section. 3) Strong immigration records section. 4) Has a newspaper section, but I've found it weak 5) English records (Great Britain & some Ireland) section is very useful if you need that sort of thing I do both because there are things in each that I want. Neither covers the entire spectrum on their own.
