Sandy, Thanks for the info you posted. I would welcome any documentation that Henry Hunt Jr. died by 1750 and that he had a son named Henry. Information that I have says Henry Jr. died between 1771-1777. His wife Martha _______then married Elias Gay. There are a number of deeds in Franklin Co. where Martha and Elias are disposing of land she inherited from Henry. Several of these deeds are disposing of the land to William Hunt their son. I hope someone on the list has information that will help us clear up this dilemma! Sandy Sharp

Two weeks ago I made some uncalled for remarks about Mrs. Gheeslings MS regarding William Hunt(t) of Surrey County VA born by 1863, his son Henry(Sr) b. abt 1700 and Henry's (SR)son Henry Jr which appears on page 11 of the Gheesling papers. Since then there has been much discussion in the background about Henry Jr and his siblings and theirr birth and death dates. Mrs. Gheesling maintains that Henry Jr was the oldest folllowed by William, John, George, James and Elizabeth and that Henry Jr died in 1750. It was further postulated from a court record that James was made guardian of Henry's Jr's children after Henry died in 1750. Therein lies what has been going on. A response to Mrs. Gheesling's paper was made by a subscriber and one other who know each other as follows: (edited to keep the flames down) " I sure would like to know what documentation (there is) that Henry Jr. died about 1750. If it is based it solely on the guardianship, then it is just possible that it was misinterpreted. I know of no documentation that Henry Jr died that early.(about the same time as his father HENRY) I know of no documentation that HENRY Jr. had any sons other than William. I do know that the Gay researchers readily accept that Mary Polly HUNTwas the dau of Henry Jr and the half sister of Sherrod H. Gay (the elder) and named her son after her half brother. I know that (my friend) has done extensive work with the original records in Granville and Franklin, and he cannot document another son for Henry Jr nor a date of death for Henry Jr that early. I think we can document that Henry Jr died between 1771 and 1777. In 1777, Henry's widow was still called Martha Hunt. She married Elias Gay sometime after that. There are then several deeds which concern selling the land that Martha had inherited from Henry Hunt. ************************************************************* I suspect after looking at the dates that possibly Henry Jr had a son Henry as well as a William. and it was from this Henry (III) who had the child Mary Polly Hunt. That is just a thought and I don't know anything about it..One thing we do know: James, brother of Henry Jr and William was made guardian of A Henry and A William. Were they his brothers or his nephews? Sandy in Lubbock (A copy of the court guardianship order is available if anyone wants it)

This responds to Beulah Discus HUNT-L message. of today. We welcome Beulah and hope we can help. I must admit this is a tough one without locations or wives last names. It appears that we must look at a Census Index for Illinois to see if we can spot the Hunts. This will take time and effort. I have about 21 data bases I will look through and see what I can find. While some of us are working on it maybe Beulah can tell us where she got the names-bible?(date and publisher's location) and any other paper place where she has found the names that might have a location or where the information originated. Also what is her relation to these folks and who is her oldest ancestor that she can tie into with confidence. Also would be helpful to know where she lives. Be back on this subject later. I am researching the Hunt family of South Mayo Ireland. The townland in which James and Mary (Bane) Hunt lived in the late 19th c. was Boleyboy, near the towns of Kilvine, Irishtown, and Ballandine. Are there other researchers out there? Kathleen

Thanks to all of you for reassuring me. I just got back from a vacation about a week ago, and it seems like it has been so quiet that maybe I didn't sign back on properly. Guess you all just have something better to do this week. Pat

Hi all, I sent a query out last Sep. looking for information about Sarah HUNT of Campobello, NB, Can. I now have more/better information & thought I'd try again. It seems Herbert is a corruption of Hibbard. What I THINK my line looks like is this: John Hunt (of Boston? Partner of Hazen & White?) Hibbard Hunt (from New Hampshire?) Hibbard Hunt b. 1760, m. Lydia Hicks on 11 May 1780 Sarah Hunt b. abt 1790 m. Joseph Mitchell on 13 Apr 1815 Sarah was born at Campobello, NB, Can. She died I believe on 2 FEB 1835. She and Joseph lived at Campobello and had children: William, Herbert, Daniel, Sophia, Huse, Eliza, Lydia & Sarah. I'm interested in ANY information you have on these folks. Thanks Very much, Jeff -- Jeff Bowden Merrimac, MA mailto:jbowden@GreenNet.net http://www.GreenNet.net/users/jbowden/
I am more than a little disturbed that I THINK I have found some very sloppy work by the late Mrs. Frank Gheesling and need some input from those interested so the record on our WEBSITE may be corrected. William's (Surrey County) great grandson Henry Hunt b. about 1700 m. Agnes_____?? and had five sons listed as William , Henry, John, George, James and Elizabeth, in that order of birth in the Gheesling papers. I have recently come across (details if you ask) the following court paper "Bond, March 4, 1756, of James Hunt, gd'n of Henry, son of Henry Hunt, dec'd". ... "Same; ward, William, son of Henry Hunt".... Acc't ret by James, gd'n of William and Henry, to Ct March 7, 1758" This appears to be a bond of James Hunt guardian of Henry and William. It follows logically that James was probably the eldest son, not the youngest as listed by Gheesling. I have also spotted two cases whre Mrs. Gheesling was quoting from the 1750 Will of Henry Sr. (I have an unproved copy) she changed the words DWELL to LIVE and further quoted material that was NOT in the will, as I have it, that James and Elizabeth were under 21. It wouild appear now that the children may have been born in this order: James b. prob 1732 Under age 21?. Elizabeth uinder age 20? John George Henry (required a guardian- 1756) William (required a guardian - 1756) (The exact arragement has not been proved.. YOUR COMMENTS PLEASE. This is going to upset a lot of people I am sure!
