    1. [HUNT-L] Thomas W. HUNT/Samantha RICHEY - Allen County, KY
    2. Sharon Clark
    3. Hi Hunt Researchers, I am a descendant of Anny Hunt who married John WISEMAN of Sumner County, TN, but I would like to know about this couple: HUNT, THOMAS W. married RICHEY, SAMANTHA 5 August 1872 in Allen County, KY. They were married by Ben P. Wilson. I am trying to find descendants of my 4th g-grandparents, William FERGUSON and Catherine GILMORE FERGUSON BAILEY. One of their daughters, Carey Ann FERGUSON, married Andrew Jackson RICHEY 27 Dec 1833 in Allen County, and they had a daughter named Samantha who was 5 when the 1850 Allen County census was taken; 15 in 1860; 23 in 1870; and was not in the household in 1880. Do any of you have any knowledge of this couple? If you do, is this Samantha the daughter of Carey Ann and Andrew J. RICHEY? I would love to have any information on their descendants if anyone has this information. Have a great day, and I thank you. Warm regards, Sharon Clark Fort Worth, Texas clarksha@swbell.net

    2. Anyone interested in this family should buy Ruby Lou and Roy Hranicky's new book on Rev. Wm. "Bucky" Hunt. It has his ancestors and descendants and is thoroughly documented and a beautiful book to own. They are subsidizing an otherwise VERY expensive book and selling it at $40. plus $6. postage to make it available to all cousins. Send to Ruby Lou Hranicky 2706 Bretshire, Corpus Christi, TX 78414 I am SO proud of mine! 3. As requested: History records John HUNT as the founder of Huntsville, but tells very little about h im. Col. Ed Betts in his "History of Huntsville says that John Hunt came from Franklin County, TN, and returned thither to Salem on Bean's Creekl, after spending a comparitively few years in Madison County AL. >From recently discovered letters dated 1835 and 1839 it would appear than John Hunt had a brother, David Hunt who lived near Salem, Franklin County, TN and several children who emigrated to Polk County MO. Apparently John Hunt went to Marion County, GA and settled near Tazewell as indicated in a letter he wrote dated "Near Tazewell,June 19th 1835". . High points of the letter: "I have had two letters from my children that have gone to Missouri" " I intend going there in April next to see the country. I cannot go any sooner on the account of my business as sheriff." " I have served as sheriff eighteen years come March next and I think it is time to quit....." A second letter addressed to David Hunt Esqr, Franklin County, near Salem Beans Creek. Evidently John Hunt did go to MO to see his children. His letter to David Jan 20th 1839 has following salient points: "Dear and Respected brother." "I have delayed answering (your last letter) untuil the present on account of the Mormon War in this state." "Your letter brought melancholy news of the death of our brother, George". (Five pargraaphs about the Mormon war) "Rhody wishes to know if brother George died in his senses. ....She sends her love......" This letter was mailed in Bolivar, MO Jan 22, 1839. and addressed as follows,"Mr. David Hunt, Franklin County, Salem postoffice, Tennessee." The foregoing was fouind in the HUNTSVILLE Public Library. I also have a two page detailed sketch of the life of John and his sons Dr. Alexander Hunt and Daniel Hunt of Butler County. All very interesting but only as good as the author (unknown and deceased). The 1820 TN census shows JOhn in Franklin County, David in Franklin County and a Daniel in Lawrence Co TN. 3. One of my relations has got lost in America. William Hunt, born circa 1770 in Ireland apparently went to America. I have no information on what happened to him. His parents were Thomas Hunt and Elizabeth Shaw, Christian names used in the family were; Thomas, William, Phineas, Wray, Richard, Charles, and John. Ring any bells with anybody? Cheers, Peter in Ireland.

    3. Responding to Lindy Hard's message. Not quite sure what is being requested. Hiowever for New York City appears a little difficult. If you know the borough that would help. Records from 1847 to 1865, Archives Division, Division of Records and Information Services, 31 Chambers st NY, NY 1007, except Brooklyn for this period, which are filed with County Clerk's Office, Kings County, Superme Court Building, Brooklyn NY 11201. I am not sure how current this is. It was ok as of 1997. I have no info re records before 1847. Sandy Hunt in Lubbock

    2. Susan H Wilson
    3. For the counties for which the 1810 census in VA is missing. You can check "A Supplement to the 1810 Census of Virginia: Tax Lists of the Counties for thich the census is missing," by Netti Schreiner- Yantis. I'm missing the publication information. Because it was taken from tax lists, it doesn't have information about everyone in the household. It lists the head of the household name, the number of tithables (white males over 16), the number of slaves over 12, and the number of horses. I'll type up the HUNTS. there's about 30 of them. ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. 1. [HUNT-L] Christopher HUNT Revolutionary War Soldier?
    2. Baxter, Jon
    3. Thanks to Sandy and Felicia for the following information on Christopher HUNT; "Served in the Continental Line, Revolutionary War record #3877-B. He died of Smallpox intestate. His wife Catey was adminitrix of his estate." Could anyone help me on where to find this War record #3877-b. I have looked through the Revolutionary War Service files on microfilm and the only Christopher HUNT is listed as from Massachusetts with an alternate name of Christopher Huntress. The pension files contain no Christopher HUNT. (at least that I have been able to find.) Also where is the record of administration found for Catey HUNT? Does anyone know the source of the Smallpox story? I have access to Leonardo Andrea files if that is the source. My goal is tie ( or disprove) that Christopher HUNT was the Father of John HUNT who married Martha Jenkins of Greenville Co. SC c1786 and later of Bracken Co. KY and Edwards ILL. I would appreciate any help, advice or opinions. Regards JON BAXTER
