    1. [HUNT-L] newbie
    2. Alan Richardson
    3. Hello fellow "Hunt"ers...I'm brand new to this and don't know where to begin. I've been looking around at the Hunt-list web site and trying to find some connections to my family but as yet, have not been able to make in instand connection ;) My great grand father, Byrd Allen Hunt, was born in Clark County Missouri on April 12, 1856 and crossed the plains by ox train in 1861. He moved out to Sacramento California and then to Santa Rosa California, and settled in Lake County CA where he remained until his death in 1947. "Judge" Byrd Hunt was the local Justice of the Peace in Middletown Ca and operated a freight line between Middletown and Calistoga Ca; bringing out the stones that were used to build the community church. 1st wife: Della Smith (died 1885); three children: Moss, Elmer and Kate. 2nd wife: Viola Jane Adams (died 1931); six children: Pearl, Alta, Ben, Orson (my grandfather), Richard and Harlan. siblings: brother CH Hunt; sisters Mrs JW Farrell and Lena Hunt. My family history stops at the judge. I know the little town of Middletown CA was once called "Huntsville", and based on the articles that appeared in the local newspapers when the judge died, he was quite well known and loved. I'd be greatful for any input I can get on this list. I would love to trace the family back through this side. Susie Richardson b52@inreach.com

    1. Re: [HUNT-L] NY wills - where to get copies
    2. HOWARD H CURRAN
    3. I have used it once. It took about 6-8 weeks, but when the photocopies of my g-g grandfathers will, from Franklin Co., NY, arrived everything was there, including the court papers. It was great, he named three children that I had "lost" after the 1880 census. One was in KY and two others in IL. From the looks of the web page, it looks as if Ralph HUNT, and his son Edward, both of NewTowne, NY have wills available. I know these are quoted in Mitchell Hunts works, but if you want a copy for your own files, this might be the place to go. 1. [HUNT-L] John HUNT and Martha Jenkins of Bracken Co. KY
    2. Baxter, Jon
    3. Greetings: I am a descendent of John HUNT and Martha Jenkins of Bracken Co. KY. I am currently working on trying to prove or disprove that John HUNT was the son of Christopher HUNT and Catey Blassingame. I have found that a John HUNT signed a Meckelenberg Declaration in Anson Co. NC in 1769. Next to his signature were several names (Braswell, Ussery) that also appear next to John HUNT on the Greenville Co. SC census for 1790. THis would place him ( or perhaps his father?) somewhere in western NC in 1769 and assuming he was 20-30 years old at least would infer a birthdate od Circa 1740-1750. I have found an entry for Christopher HUNT in the SOuth Carolina records in which his estate is paid a few pounds for supplies to the army in 1780. I would like to correspond with anyone interested with this family, refered to by many as the Jefferson HUNT family although he has many other descendents from other children. 3. Here is an excerpt of a biography/genealogy in part .If it looks interesting in response to ekjohnson's message of Sunday night I can reproduce it all. *************************************************** All names are HUNTs. His four sons (William Morris, Jonathan, Richard Morris, and Leavitt) were educated in Europe and each achieved prominence in different careers. William became a distinguished PAINTER in Paris in 1848 and moved to Newport, RI, in 1855. Jonathan became a doctor in Paris, France, and died there. Richard became one of America's most distinguished architects in the 19th century. Leavitt combined a talent for photography with a legal profession. etc etc. Sandy Hunt in Lubbock

    1. Re: [HUNT-L] JOHN HUNT/HUNTSVILLE AL.
    2. Wilma: The first part of your information is correct (from Searcy Proctor). Some of the spelling is incorrect, but that is negligible. The second part about the article from "Old Huntsville" (1993) has errors, but is not entirely incorrect. Bill Hunt of Fairport, N.Y. and Clara and I corresponded with the editor for about a year and finally came to a partial agreement, but the first article (from: "Old Huntsville") had errors. Felicia I would suggest anyone researching this line may want to write to: Wm. 2. Sandy: Some of this is garbled and incorrect. I would advise anyone interested in this line to download Claras and my file on Courtney's web page: <http://geocities.com/heartland/plains/4813/gedl/gedlink.html> John Hunt Sr. (founder of Huntsville, AL. is #468, and his son John Jr. is #470.) It makes it quite confusing when you are dealing with two Johns---father and son. John Sr. did not have a brother, David. Clara and Bill Hunt of Fairport, N.Y. have spent YEARS working on this family and there are many errors in libraries and books on this family and one must be VERY careful when researching it. PLEASE--if you are of this line---download this file and study it!
