Answering Bevs note re Burlington HUNTs. I presume if you are a descendant that you know these folks are Quakers. So the non Quaker way of tracing may be difficult without Quaker publications. What we have is a bit too long for the discussion group so I will send you the line so far as it goes by separate message.. The only question I need an answer to is whether Robert(1680) and William(1690) sons of William (abt 1665) were brothers. Sandy Hunt in Lubbock TX (a former Quaker city)>

Hi Allen, I am from Lowndes County, MS, right next to Oktibbeha. Lucky you, in Hawaii through all the bad weather we are having here. We have been there twice and love it. Let me know if you need any info from Lowndes. My gr-gr-gr-grandmother was Sarah Carter Hunt from GA who m. Jeptha Vining Harris. They never lived in MS, but a lot of their children did. I am trying to find information on Effie Keen Hunt b. abt. 1889 d. 1914. Roane Co. WV. She married Riley Hunt had a daughter Ona Hunt b. 1912 d. 1970. After Effie died Riley married Emma Rogers.
In Ireland, the name HUNT is most often a "translation" of an older Irish root name. Which root name it may be varies from county to county. For a description of these translations into the more English-sounding name HUNT, you should refer to: MacLysaght, Edward. MORE IRISH FAMILIES. Portland, Oregon: Irish Academic Press, 1996 (this is the first paperback edition of MacLysaght's original 1982 book.) ISBN: 0-7165-2604-2 It's a very interesting read. After 30 or so messages I finally got to yours. All I can do is quote the GHEESLING MS. I have a copy.I have had three weeks of discussion regarding Henry lately with Sandra Sharp,<sjsharp@sjtc.net> who is probably a cousin of yours. There is no clue as to the surname of Agnes. Hunt ============================================================ ==================== FAMILY NOTES HUSBAND NOTES: William HUNT III General: Died intestate. Sarah Hunt was administratrix of his estate. Inventory was made by Richard Parker on 10 Apr 1727. On 15 May 1728, Sarah Goodwin & John Goodwin (whom she married 2nd) were listed as administrators of William's estate. Sarah Goodwin was listed as the mother of Henry Hunt in his deed to John Allen. William is first found in the tithble list of 1700 in Surry Co. On 12 Nov. 1718, he patented 1,120 acres in Sury Co. on the SW side of the Notaway River, and adjacent to Hunting Quarter Swamp & MAJOR WILLIAM HUNT, (of the OTHER Hunt line). This land had never been patented before and, in 1756, became Sussex Co. See Mrs. Gheesling's mss. pg. 8 & 9 for detailed descriptions of his land transfers. See also: The Hunt Family of Charles City County, Virginia, by the late Michael West Berry, Washington, D.C., as published in the Virginia Genealogist. See also: Limmer, pg. 15 for his Will. WIFE NOTES: Sarah WYCHE General: See Will of Henry WYche of Surry Co. 1712/14. CHILD NOTES: Henry HUNT General: Henry made his will on 13 Nov. 1750 and it is recorded March of 1750/5l in Granville Co., N. C. Executors were his wife, Agnes, and son, James. Wit: John Massey, William Hunt, Thomas (X) Hunt and John Thomas. Proved by William Hunt. Bequeaths to his children: Henry Hunt, William Hunt, John Hunt, George Hunt, James Hunt, Elizabeth Hunt, all living at date of his will. Since the Thomas who witnessed the will did not inherit in the will, he could be another son, who was given his portion earlier; however, William is listed as a son and heir, and, therefore, could not be the same William who witnessed and proved the will, as an heir could not also be a witness, I believe. Since the Thomas who witnessed, signed with an "X", any further transactions attributed to this Thomas, should also be signed with an "X". Henry inherited, as "heir at law" 920 acres from his father's estate and sold it all: 400 acres to Moses Johnson in 1732, deeded by Thomas Hunt, Henry Hunt & Agnes, his wife. 520 acres to John Allin 1736, deeded by "Henry Hunt & Agnes, his wife & Sarah Goodwin, his mother". Thus, all of William III's land passed out of the Hunt name. ABOUT HENRY'S Children: The lineup of the children is suspect as are the birthdates. Nothing in the will indicates ages or the order of birth In the Name of God Amen........ Item my will is that all my just debts be paid and funeral expenses. Item I give and bequeath unto my well beloved son James Hunt one Negro boy Named Cato to him and his heirs for ever Also I give to my said Son James Hunt the smallest of my guns and thn my said son James Hunt have the above Named Negro when she sall arrive to the age of Twenty one years, also I give a certain Parcel or traat of Land to my sd son James Hunt beginning at the Branch above the Plantation whereon I now Dwell and ..?..ing Buffalo Creek Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth Hunt one Negro Girl named Lydia and all her increase to her and her heirs for ever and that my said Daughter Elizabeth Hunt have the said Negro Girl at the time of her age of Twenty years. Item I give and bequeath unto my well beloved Son Henry Hunt one Negro boy named Nero to him and his heirs for ever. Item I give and bequeath unto my well beloved Son William Hunt one Negro Girl...... Item I give and bequeath unto my well beloved Son George Hunt that child that my Negro Jenny is now with child of Whether it prove boy or Girl..... Item I give and bequeath unto my well beloved Son John Hunt one Negro woman named Jenny and all her increase Excepting the child as before mentioned that I gave to my son George Hunt all the Rest of her increase to him and his Heirs for ever. Item I give and bequeath unto my well beloved wife Agnes Hunt all my personal Estate of moveables both with and without and all and Every part and parcell thereof unto her the sd Agnes Hunt and to be at her Disposal as she shall see fit to Dispose of the Same and also that she the said Agnes Hunt live and abide on the Plantation whereon I now Dwell during her life and that she have the use of all the Negros during the time that she continues a widow Except them two Negros that I give to my Son and Daughter James and Elizabeth Hunt and after the Decease of my Beloved wife Agnes Hunt I give and bequeath unto my Son George Hunt the Plantation whereon I now Dwell.........
