Both sons were born in Mahaska county IA. The family > then seems to disappear. > Thank you. > > Teri I have a similar problem, however, mine seems to be in the other direction. My Grandfather, SMITH REED HUNT (married BLANCHE SEFELT, daughter of JACK SEFELT and EFFIE -- Sefelt Monument Co. ), was born in 1894, probably in Waterloo, Iowa. His brother, CHARLES FREDERICK HUNT, was born in Waterloo in 1909. Fred is still alive, however, his memory is failing him. His stepmothers name was LOUISE WINONA SAVAGE, from Lincoln, Nebraska, daughter of CHARLES SAVAGE and NORA WINONA ???, Probably born in July, 1870. Great Grandfather, by Fred's recollection, is CLARENCE ALFONSE HUNT. His mother's name, he does not remember. CLARENCE was probably born in 1852, and may have been born in Ithaca, New York. His father may have been SMITH REED HUNT Fred's recollection is very [poor, and he has, on occasion, stated that he was named after his father (CLARENCE?) or his grandfather (SMITH?). So, my dilemma is clear, I can't go back any further. I'm not even sure if the course I am taking is valid. My father, JACK REED HUNT, however, was born in 1918 in Red Oak, Iowa. I have no idea whether there is a connection to your Hunts. But, it is a dead end, in the other direction. Gary Hunt, Outpost of Freedom http:www.illusions.com/opf

In his book THE TRAVELLING CHURCH, George W. Ranck listed HUNT as one of the families that were members of the Travelling Church caravan. In light of this I thought the following excerpt would be of interest, especially relating to the settlement of Barren County, KY where some HUNT ancestors originate. --Doug This was posted to KYROOTS by Julie Adams <julie@NETSET.COM>: The following is taken directly from the pages of "History of Churches in Boone's Creek Association" regarding the Traveling Church: "Tradition says that when Daniel Boone was passing through Virginia from his old home in PA to his new home in North Carolina, he met William Bush, then a young man and the two became friends. The following inscription can be found on the headstone of Capt. William Bush "He was the friend and companion of Daniel Boone and others in the settlement of Kentucky". We know that Capt. Billy was one of the men that assisted Boone in blazing the trail to Boonesborough in 1775 and was one of the party that went in pursuit of the two Callaway sisters and Boone's daughter when they were captured by Indians in 1776. Capt. Bush was so well pleased with the new country that he returned to his old home in Orange Co. Va for the purpose of organizing a colony, and from the glowing description which he gave, a colony was soon organized, consisting of about 40 families from among his kinsmen, neighbors and friends in Orange and Culpepper Co.'s, most of them being Baptists. Early in 1780 preperations were begun for the exodus in the fall of that year to the land of "Kaintuckee". Some months before the colony started, Capt. Billy had returned to Boonesborough to select and locate farms for the different families whom he wished to be near him. He located approx 3000 acres directly across the river from Ft. Boonesborough." In a nutshell, the traveling church had started their journey and had reached the settlement of "Holston" which was also known as Wolf Hills (current day city of Abingdon). There was a fort there called Blacks Fort. (Historical landmark in Abingdon shows the site of the fort). The settlement of Holston was pretty much the last civilized stop before entering unchartered territory. There is a restaurant in d/town Abingdon called "The Tavern" it was the original "stage coach stop" and has been restored to its original condition - orig. built in 1779 and since the Traveling Church arrived at Blacks Fort in Dec. of 1780, some of the party most likely was in that very building as it was the central place for supplies and mail. We have eaten dinner in this place - it is truly worth the trip! Nothing can bring you closer to how they lived than to visit a place that still has the very walls and floors it did back then. Anyway, the colony remained there until 1783 as Capt. Billy had sent a runner from Ft. Boonesborough warning them to stop there as the trail to B/borough and the fort itself had been under heavy seige by Indians and was not safe. There are records in Washintong Co. showing these Baptists grew crops and raised livestock for 3 years before they continued on their journey. Our ancestor, Josiah Bush, Capt. Billy's brother, died while in Black's Fort, therefore never making the full journey. When the colony reached Kentucky, an area SE of Ft. Boonesborough, there was some sort of disagreement (religious) and a small portion of the party decided to go to an area then called "The Barrens" which is now Glasgow, Ky in the far SW corner. The remainder of the colony contined to Ft. Boone and they settled on the lands that Capt. Billy had claimed for them in the year 1784.. The first years of Church meetings were held in Capt. Billy's home, Pastor Elder Elkin while they built the Providence Church - which still stands and is still in use as a church today. It is estimated that the church was built about 1792. They had a temporay log church between 1785 and 1792." ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Good evening HUNTers. I am still (3 years now. LOL) looking for any information on Mabel Timartha HUNT b. c. 1750 in VA. d. 1844 Shenandoah Co., VA. Mabel married Samuel LEWIN c. 1783 and they had 11 children. I don't have any data on the parents/siblings of Mabel. Any help is greatly appreciated. I have recently come across information that the Ann Hunt I am looking for was married to a John Hunt before she married Forrest Upshaw. So her maiden name was not Hunt after all. So now, I am looking for a John Hunt, who married Ann ?. Thanks. Dorothy Wallace
OKL...lets try this. I am looking for the parentage of Edward William Hunt b .10-19-1877 on TN. Probably Montgomery or Stewart County. He married Elizabeth Mary Harrison b. May 1, 1869 and had only one son, Charles Plummer Hunt b. 1909. His father probably either William (Billy) Hunt who married Sarah Bryant or William (Billy) Hunt who married Pushin Gilbert. There is evidence to support either marriage or maybe there are two Billy Hunts in the area at that time. The William Hunt that married Pushin Gilbert, however, cannot be found on ANY census records at that time and I KNOW they lived then. They were farmers. Family lore says that Edward had some sisters and Charles Plummer had a cousin named Hill Hunt (I even have a picture of him) so Edward had to have at least one brother. HELP...I have looked and looked and when I find any records at all they conflict with each other! Lori
This came to me on another list: Subject: IMPORTANT INFO RE: LDS RECORDS Date: Sunday, February 28, 1999 9:32 PM >>> I just returned from a meeting at the Family History Center where I volunteer. I now have the true scoop on the LDS records that will be available online. First of all there are several differnet types of records that are kept at all Family History Cneters. There is never a charge for use of any of this information (nominal fees for printouts). The main files are the Ancestral File, the International Gene3alogical Index, and the Family History Library Catalogue. The Ancestral file is basically no different than the disks sold by family tree maker containing ancestor charts. The info on these charts can be submitted by anyone hwther or not they are a member of the church. The International Genealogical Index information can only be submitted by members. It consists of Individual data that lists birthdates, place of birth and parents. There is a marriage index that gives date and place of marriage. And lastly a parent index which lists all children in a particular family. The info is obviously only as good as the person who submitted it to the file. We tell people to use the data as a starting point only and NOT to take it as the absolute proof. When anything is submitted to ancestral file, you can automatically find out who submitted it by hitting a source key. The submitter's name and address will be shown. The same is not true for the IGI. You need to order the microfilm in order to find out who the submitter was. The church is currently working very hard at extracting as much information as possible from origianl records. It is an ongoing process that is checked and double checked for acuracy. As the data becomes avalable it is distributed to the librareis, once again at no charge to patrons. Neither of these files are going to be released online, at least not at this time. What is going to be released is the Family History Library Cartalogue. It will be the most current version, more current than any library now has in its possession. Basically the FHLC is a complete listing of every record in the possession of the Mormon libraies located anywhere in the world. You can search these records several ways. Locality, surname, film/fiche number/ and author. By finding out what is available you can then decide whether you might like to order the kinformation. Not everything is avalable for order. Many living peopel do not allow their books to be microfilmed. However, a library in your area may have the book listed. You can find that out through the catalogue. I have utilized this catalogue extensively thrughout the years. I can save a lot of money if I discover that a film I am interested in ordering is in a nearby FHC. Now then, just when will it go online?? Good question. We were told "sometime in March." So it could be onliune as early as tomorrow, but maybe not. Don't be discouraged if it is not there tomorrow, just check back again. It is going to be online for about a month to see how it works. I have no idea what the plans are for future release. Anyway, you now have the facts straight from the top as I was told them at our meeting. The address will be http://www.FamilySearch.org Hope this helps, Carolyn <<<<<<

Hello All! Can anyone out there tell me about a Hunt and/or Hammon(d)s family moving from KY to MS? I believe they might have moved from Christian County, KY to Amite or Franklin, County, MS approx. during the years of 1830-40, or earlier. I would appreciate any info. Thank you very much! - Denise
