    1. [HUNT-L] Thomas HUNT Jr. & Eliza ? Family VA
    2. Duane Windsor
    3. Hello I am seeking information on: Thomas HUNT Jr, b. 1744 VA ? and his wife Eliza _____ b. abt 1777 VA? *********************************************************** the reason for the blanks spots and the ? marks is I don't have ALL the data on these persons, but here is what I do have: >From a sworn copy of the Hunt Family Bible page Thomas HUNT Jr b. 1774 "son of a Pensioner" Eliza _______ no birth date or place Rebecca b. 18 Mar 1796 William b. 6 Jun 1800 Priscilla b. 22 Mar 1802 <<<<<<<<<<!!!!! Margaret b. 24 Dec 1803 Thomas b. 24 Jun 1806 John C. b. 6 Apr 1809 ( could be E Henry b.25 Sep 1812 Lerois b. _________ died young ! ************************************************************************* There are court records that claim James Basil HUNT b. 20 Aug 1844 to be the one of the heirs of the above Eliza HUNT. These records DO NOT state he is her son !! but that simply he is an "heir to her Estate." My understand of an "heir" is they are a surviving descendant of the ancestor entitled to inherit some part of the ancestors Estate if so stated !! please correct me if this is wrong ! That could be children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces !!! ************************************************************************ The person I believe is the mother is Priscilla HUNT b. 22 Mar 1802 who married a (James ?) HUNT and had the following children according to the 1860 Census Hopkins Co. TX Sirena HUNT b abt 1836 VA Rebecca HUNT b. abt 1839 VA James Basil HUNT b. 20 Aug. 1844 Lamar Co. TX Since the 2 females were born in VA, I therefore believe it likely that the above Thomas HUNT Jr & Eliza are from there also. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- There were no parents listed for the 3 children at that time because the father appears to have died before the 1850 Census of Texas but Priscilla HUNT and 3 children were listed in the 1850 census for Hunt co. TX as living with #226 John A. Parsons The HUNT and PARSONS families were neighbors and what every epidemic occurred may have taken the wife of John a. PARSON and the husband of Priscilla HUNT **************************************************************************** ******* John A. Parsons was appointed James Basil HUNT guardian 28 Apr 1856 so I believe that Priscilla HUNT died just before that time. Eliza HUNT appears to have survived Priscilla, her daughter because in court records of 1857, they indicate that James Basil HUNT inherited a land Certificate for 640 Acres from Eliza HUNT from his Grandmother. wording in those records were " James Hunt, a minor heir of Eliza Hunt , deceased, died in ______" This is why I don't believe that James Hunt is not Eliza son, just her heir !! Priscilla, her daughter, had apparently died prior to 1857 so Eliza HUNT left her Estate to Priscilla's 3 children, James Hunt being one of them. ******************************************************************** I know this is long and convoluted, but can ANYONE help? Sandy, Felicia or Courtney ?? who appear to have a large file on the HUNT surname Any help from anyone who be appreciated !!!! Duane Windsor Carson City, NV duanewin@gateway.net

An "heir" is basically the person who inherits - "At common law, [an heir is] one who succeeds to either real [land] or personal property [ including money] of a decendent [the guy what died] who died intestate [without a will]." So says Ballentine's Law Dictionary. About twenty other definitions follow, tracking the more modern use of the term. For example, an heir "by devise" is one who inherits land [and sometimes other property] devised by will. Or, one may be an heir pursuant to a contract. And on and on. In short, the heir need not be a family member or connection at all, although it is certainly probable that he/she would be.

    2. SANFORD B HUNT
    3. Her name was ELIZBETH HUNT. She married Samuel Vail in Southampton Long Island,1677. That is very early and I can't find an ELIZABETH HUNT so early--. Checked out Ralph of LI and Thomas of Westchester files and MSs. No sign of any such person. No sign of HUNTs in Southampton LI. Elizabeth's son THOMAS b. 1695, married Rachel Fitzrandolph June 15 1717. This family is recorded to have moved to Middlesex NJ shortly before 1718. Source is NYHistGen. Society Library. No indication of who submitted such information Samuel Vail was born in 1654 and died 1695 in Westchester NY. My guess is that Elizabeth was born in England since nothing else seem to turn up. If she married in 1677 she was probably born about 1650 or so. I don't know any HUNT families with Elizabeths that early in America. Sandy Hunt in Lubbock
