The Oakland Messenger -- IL newspaper Thur January 20 1921 J. H. HUNT CALLED Passes Away at His Home Near This City Sunday Afternoon Death came Sunday afternoon to relieve the suffering of J. H. Hunt who had been ill at his home in the Donica Point neighborhood for about two weeks, his suffering having been brought on by Mr. Hunt taking bichloride of mercury tablets. Everything possible to save the life of Mr. Hunt was done by his family and physicians but to no avail, the deadly poison had done it's work. The cause of this rash act on the part of Mr. Hunt is not definitely known. The deceased was known to everybody in this section of the country as "Jet." Being a man of his word, honest, industrious and straight forward and of a jovial disposition, he made friends with all whom he met and easily retained them. His many friends were prepared for the worst but the news of his death cast a pall gloom over the community in which he lived for "Jet" Hunt was a friend to everybody and his loss will be felt not only in his house but in the entire community. To his mother, wife and children, sisters and brothers, The Messenger extends sincere sympathy in the loss of a kind and loving husband and indulgent father. Jestine Harland Hunt, son of William ("&"-- submitter's note ) Ester Hunt was born in Coles County, Oakland township, Illinois, February 11th, 1867 and departed this life at his home in Oakland township, Coles county, Illinois, January 10th, 1921 aged 53 years, 11 months and 5 days. He was married to Miss Amanda A. Eads of Monroe County near Bloomington, Indiana, December 31st, 1891. To this union were born 3 sons and 2 daughters, William Clarence, Freeman Everett and Chase Jennings, Mrs. Gertrude Ethel Ford and Elsie Marie Taylor who survive him. He united with Providence church with his wife during the year of 1911 under the ministry of Elder Silvan A. Dawson and was baptized near the church in the stream of Jestine H. Handley with is wife. His father died the 9th of November 1915; his aged mother survives him. Two brothers and 1 sister preceeded him to the better world in infancy. Three brothers and four sisters survive him, Sherman W., Willis J., Lawrence C., Tressa Bradford, Louvisa Ashmore, Alvira Morris and Delphia Henn. He was honest and industrious, provided well for his family and leaves his aged mother, companion, children, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends to mourn his loss. Funeral services were conducted from the Fairview church, Tuesday morning at 11:00 o'clock. Rev. Sylvan Dawson officiating, followed by interment in Fairview cemetery.
Would appreciate any info. about Mary "Polly' Hunt, 1770, NC - d. 1851, Fayette Co., GA. She md., William B. Gay, abt. 1790, Fayette Co., GA. Thanks...Carol Garrett
For some time I have been trying to find out about my ggrandmother Georgia Hunt Murphy. I was finally able to track down a death certificate for her, from Rochester, NY. It lists her father as George B. Hunt; birthplace is listed as unknown; state or country is listed as Three Rivers and the last word is unreadable. No dates are specified for George. However, Georgia was born February 6, 1856. I can't make out the state, but I'm guessing Oklahoma. My mother thinks her family started out in Texas, perhaps close to the Oklahoma line?? Does anyone have information to add to this. I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks. Vicki Muller _____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Since my first posting on the 12th inst. concerning the Hunts of Erie county, PA, I have been asked about other Hunt families within the county other than my own Henry Hunt family. As nearly as I can tell, there were at least four Hunt family lines in Erie county as of the early- to-mid 1800s. (Note: I suspect that two of the family lines may be related -- paragraphs 2 and 3 -- but I have not yet found a connection.) 1. George Hunt and Henry Hunt (presumed to be brothers, but not certain) in North East township. This township, obviously, is in the most extreme northeast part of Erie county. George and Henry both came from New Jersey and settled in this place about 1797. They used to go to Pittsburgh to mill. George was the first Justice of the Peace in Erie county. Henry was Erie county's first sheriff. These two Hunts appear to be the first Hunts in Erie county. I know nothing more than this regarding these two Hunts. 2. Henry Hunt (ca. 1807-1875) of Belle Valley, in Mill Creek township. This township is in the north-central part of Erie county. Mill Creek township lies to the west and south of the City of Erie. Belle Valley is in the most eastern part of the township, immediately below the southeast part of Erie city. This is the Hunt family of which I descend. Henry Hunt was born in England (I don't know where in England), and came to America as a young boy with his parents. An old passed-down story in my family says this Hunt family immigrated about 1816, but I have not yet been able to document this. I do not even know who Henry Hunt's parents are (can anyone help me with this?). It is said that this family lived in New York for awhile. Henry Hunt married Mary Simons (or Symonds-?), supposedly in New York. Henry and Mary Simons Hunt came to Erie county about 1829. Henry lived out the remainder of his life here. 3. John Hunt (1812-1860) of the City of Erie. The city of Erie is in the most north-central part of the county. John was married to Adelia D. Otis, and together they had six known children. John Hunt is thought to be a younger brother of Henry Hunt (paragraph 2 above), but I have not yet found proof certain. If true, the same immigration data found in no. 2 above would also apply to this Hunt family. 4. Simeon Hunt (1785-1874) of Waterford borough. The borough of Waterford is located in the south-central part of Erie county. Simeon was born in Sharon, CT, and is a descendant of old New England stock. It is said that this Hunt family left Connecticut and first settled in Vermont for a short time, then relocated to Erie county, PA. Simeon came to Waterford about 1814 to 1816, and remained there until his death. I have next to nothing on this family, but I know that much as been recorded about Simeon and his children, as Simeon was a very well-to-do person. Probably there are other list members who know a lot about this family. I do know that this family is definitely not related to the Henry Hunt family (paragraph 2), and probably not related to the Hunts of paragraph 1 or 3, unless the connection is way, way back in England. This is the best information I have. If anyone knows of any additional information, or any errors in what I have written here, please let me know. Don Nutt Adrian, MI.

From: "Joan Duncan" <lduncan1@elp.rr.com> Date: Tue, 18 May 1999 21:08:36 -0600 Subject: Antioch Cemeter Preble Co., Ohio This cemetery is in Gaspar Township, about 4 miles south of Eaton. The cemetery would be overlooked because it is one lot off the highway. The corner lot was the site of the first Methodist Church to be built in the county. Ebe Campbell was one of the church members to give the ground and help build the church. There is no sign of it left as it was abandoned when the new Methodist Church was built in Eaton. Next to the church one lot uphill was the cemetery. To get to the entrance it is necessary to trespass on the driveway of the next door farmers property. It is a pretty place, surrounded by huge trees and was grassy when we visited Our second trip though was so disappointing as the tractor grass cutter had knocked down a number of the old headstones. Ebe and Lydia, my 3rd great grandparents, had a tall tombstone which was not damaged, but the huge tree roots did threaten their stone. Now as to my comment about little David Hunt Campbell. He was the child of Mary Ann Hunt and her sisters widower James Bayard Campbell, who Md. Mary Ann as his 2nd wife. Little David was not the son of Mary Blalock Hunt, but her grandson. He was b.June 1852 and died 17 days later. Mary Ann's sister Elizabeth Hunt Campbell is buried next to him. Off State Hgwy 127 I believe. The Oakland Messenger - IL newspaper Thur. Nov 11, 1915 PIONEER ANSWERS LAST CALL The community were much shocked Tuesday morning upon learning that William HUNT one of our most respected citizens had died suddenly at his home on Ashomore Road. Mr Hunt had been in failing health for some time, but of late had the appearance of being much improved and he was up town in his car nearly every day. Tuesday morning he had come up to BLEVIN'S's meat market, had purchased half a hog and the same being placed in his automobile he had taken it home, unloaded it and was preparing to cut it up when the final summons came and he passed away while his wife was answering a telephone call in another part of the home. Funeral services are being conducted this afternoon by Rev. Willis GILL of Cloverdale, Ind., from the Fairview church and the interment will be in the Fairview cemetery. A large convergence of relatives and friends will attend the funeral and burial. William HUNT was born in Coles County, IL, Feb. 11th, 1845 and died Tuesday Nov. 9, 1915 aged 70 years, 8 months, 28 days. He was a son of James D. HUNT who located in Coles county previous to 1838 where he died July 3, 1856. The subject of this sketch continued to live upon the old homestead, attended school and assisted farming until the decease of his mother which occured July 3, 1865 after which he purchased the interest of the other heirs and continued farming successfully upon the old place on his own account until some ten years ago when he removed to Oakland and purchased the Stites property on Ashmore Road in which himself and wife resided until his death. He was married March 3, 1864 to Susan E. HANDLEY. He is survived by his wife and eight children, viz: Mrs Guy JONES, Mrs Walter HENN, Mrs Elby ASHMORE, Mrs Theressa SWINFORD, Willis, Jet, Lawrence and Sherman HUNT.

Am looking for information on Stephen Hunt and Catherine (Hunt) ??? of Delaware County, New York. Stephen was 65 in the 1850 census and his wife Catherine was 35. One of there daughters Sarah (July 10, 1844?) (listed as Sally in the census) is my great grandmother. Other children include Many Jane, James (born 1840) Daniel and Susan, also born after the census was Lucinda (1850). Stephen died sometime after that. Catherine left Delaware county and moved to Tompkins where she possibly married her next husband ????Dick(er)son, and gave birth to another child, Leroy (1860), and by the 1865 census Catherine is shown as a widow having been married twice.

I took a lot of time on this one but found nothing. Please reply to <lduncan1@elp.rr.com>/ cc to sbh3@prodigy.net. Sandy, Lubbock Texas --------- Forwarded message ---------- From: "Joan Duncan" <lduncan1@elp.rr.com> From: Joan, <lduncan1@elp.rr.com> I am so impressed with the time you took to help me in my search for parents of David Hunt. I do thank you for your kindness. David says in the 1850 census that he was born in N.J. In fact he was born 2/8/1800, md Mary Blalock 10/5/21 listed in the early marriage records of Butler Co., Ohio. On the same day, William Blalock was married, I believe to be Marys' brother. In the 1820 census they were next door neighbors. By 1830 both families had moved to Gaspar Tsp., Preble Co. Oh. There is a record I discovered which I have never acquired fromi Trenton, N.J., the death of David Hunt in 1831. This is particularly interesting since David in Oh. began in 1832 acquisition of a number of land deeds. He seemed to buy and sell a great deal of land over the next few years, some designated as town lots - not in a town I ever located but near at hand I'm sure. By 1850 they were in Butler Co. again and David said he was a bridge toll taker. David and Mary had (Dr.) Nathan Hunt 1820, Elizabeth 1822, Mary Ann 1825, Richard 1827, John E. 1832, Hannah 1835, and Dunham 1838. Somewhere in there I believe they had a little son, David, because he's buried beside his sister in the Antioch Cemetery just out of Eaton. Eliz. may have died in childbirth (she married James Bayard Campbell), and when visiting the cemetery, there was little David Hunt. About the middle of 1850's they moved to Clay Co. Indiana and were then close to Mary Ann Hunt Campbell who md. Eliz. husband James B. Campbell (Campbell is my maiden name). David died in 1859, and Mary was in the household of Mary Ann and James in the 1860 census. She died 1866. I'm a member of the DAR here in El Paso, and when we visited their wonderful library in Wash. D.C., I found application papers from a descendant of David Hunt, whose father was Daniel Hunt, whose father was Simpson Hunt. She had listed more ancestors of the patriot in the Amer. Revolution than required, but if he should be father of David, I would have a whole passel of new ancestors. Unfortunately there is a place on the application for the applicant to register the children of the patriot, but we only knew of the one through which she qualified. I hope this makes sense-- It's getting late. It would seem my next move is to attempt to get a copy of that will of David who died in 1831 in Warren County, New Jersey. I was going through my 130 typewritten pages of Hunt data. Since it's quite a deal to hitch up our trailer to go researching In., Oh., Pa.NJ. etc, we take down everything we come across in the area we are researching. That's how I came across the reference to the will of David in N.J. I wanted to find accurate data for you in case you have any further help. If you find nothing in your records, I do want to thank you once again. This internet is the berries isn't it!
