Trying to stop the SPAM. Need help on this-Sandy in Lubbock Texas There is a rumor being circulated about email surcharges that would be collected by the local phone companies and turned over to the Postal Service. This rumor has no basis in fact. I checked it out at the website of the US House and found the message below. Anyone can check out any House legislation by using this URL http://www.house.gov/house/searchall.htm. ******************************************** No Postal Internet Tax There is another rumor spreading on the Internet concerning a supposed legislation that would impose a 5-cent surcharge by the U.S. Postal Service on every e-mail delivery. This is a completely false rumor. There is no such bill pending before Congress. "Bill 602P" is not a valid bill number, nor is "Congressman Schnell," the purported author of this bill, a Member of Congress. I have been assured by the Postal Service that it has never contemplated such legislation, nor would it support it if it were proposed. On a related matter, you might be interested to learn that I voted in favor of H.R. 4105, the Internet Tax Freedom Act. This bill, which passed the House in June 1998, established a national moratorium on taxes that would interfere with the free flow of commerce via the Internet. It also established a national policy against federal and state regulation of Internet access. I whole-heartedly support low-cost access to the Internet. I believe the web is an invaluable educational tool, the use of which needs to be encouraged, not thwarted by unnecessary charges. Please look thru your Hunt info and see if you can help me out. I would truely appreciate it. I Have been several years on this with very little success. PLESE HELP. Leonard LESE HELP. Leonard

Hi Leonard, Maybe it's the name "William Hunt" that makes them all so hard to find. I have a William Kinchen Hunt as my deadend, born 1778 I don't know where, or who this parents were. Showed up in Rutherford County, NC about 1802 with some other Hunts and can't find their parents eather. I know there are other "William Hunt's " floating around out there without birthplaces and parents. We are doomed to never knowing where they came from. Good Luck in your search. Jean

Carol: Can you or anyone help me identify the Col Wilkins Hunt, "of Macon" (per the Southern Recorder) who married in Milledgeville, Ga. on 22 Feb 1838 Macon, GA to Julia Ann Root and had land in Cherokee Co. and, seemingly, had married a Lucinda (?) first? Carol: Andrea gives Noel Massey as the father of Zanney. The heirs of Noel sell a piece of property in Anderson Co. signed by the heirs on 4 July 1826 and William Hunt signes for his wife (not named). Charles Hunt is the father of Wm. Jeremiah and John. This John married Mary Kilpatrick and they moved to Tuscaloosa Co., AL with the Kilpatricks. He is, I believe, too young to be the John who founded Huntsville, AL. The John who founded Huntsville is well known as being the first sheriff of Claiborne Co., TN. and was born around 1750. His son, John Jr. later became sheriff also. The county lines changed and part of Claiborne became Hawkins. John heard about the "big spring" from an old trader and gunsmith named Bean (well known in these parts) and went to see for himself and came back and got his family and built a log cabin above the spring. There was a Jesse Hunt in Greenbrier Co., W. VA very early. He bought (or had a grant---not sure which) in 1796. There was also a Jesse Hunt who died around 31. Dec 1901 (date of probate of will) in Marion Co., W. Va. Will Bk 3, pg 399. This may be the same Jesse. I have longed to find out more on this man! You might write for a copy of the will. Hello Cousins and Friends, I want to sincerely thank all those who took the time and effort to respond to my analogy re: baseball vs genealogy. There were so many of you, that I could not respond individually, but the appreciation is genuine nonetheless. I think the "gist" of most of those responses can be best summed up by those great, though blasphemous, lines from Porgy and Bess: The things that you're liable To find in the "Bible" They ain't necessarily so! I did get many, many useful suggestions, but the one that took my eye concerned Pittsylvania County. I knew that Pittsylvania County was formed out of Halifax County, but did not realize that the present county seat of Pittsylvania was once the seat of Halifax! And, perhaps, it is there that I should be concentrating my search. I also knew that my Hunts were located near the boundary of present day Halifax and Pittsylvania. Can't see the forest for the trees, eh? More on my Ambrose Hunt, whose wife was Rachel vs. Ambrose Hunt, whose wife was Rachel Reed: Per the IGI found at LDS Familysearch, Ambrose Hunt married Rachel Reed about 1789 in Greensburg, Green Co., KY. Per "Halifax County, Virginia Marriages 1753 - 1800," Knoor 1957, Ruth Hunt married John Crews 22 Dec 1789, daughter of Ambrose Hunt, who gives consent. I find it difficult to believe Ambrose could be giving consent for his daughter's Halifax Co. marriage, while he is in Green Co., KY getting married himself. My Ambrose Hunt does not sell all his property until 1795, then he does so through a power of attorney given to his brother, Joseph, while he is in Fayette Co., KY, near the end of Wilderness Road. Other land records found in Halifax Co. Deed Books are: Deed Book O Jan 4, 1777, Ambrose Hunt purchases about 100 acres from Samuel Morton and wife, Delphy. Deed Book 11 20 July 1778, Ambrose Hunt purchases 200 acres from Samuel Crawford. 13 Feb 1779, Ambrose Hunt purchases about 50 acres from William East. 14 Aug 1779, Ambrose Hunt sells about 100 acres to Joseph Hunt, his brother. Deed Book 12 24 Aug 1780, Ambrose Hunt sells about 280 acres to William Rowlet. 20 Sep 1781, Ambrose Hunt purchases about 400 acres from Benjamin Vaughn, for 5000 pounds, an enormous sum of money in those days. 16 Oct 1783, Ambrose Hunt purchases about 390 acres from Shadrack East. Deed Book 13 18 Aug 1785, Ambrose Hunt sells 50 acres to Drury Kersey. 19 Oct 1786, Ambrose Hunt sells 100 acres to Andrew McGinness (Mac Ginnes). Deed Book 14 19 Dec 1787, Ambrose Hunt sells about 100 acres to Reuben Hunt. So, you see, Ambrose had started do dispose of his property by the later half of the 1780s. However, he still owned considerable property in Halifax County. Now, I must say, that I AM aware of two OTHER Ambrose Hunts; one from the New England or Long Island lines of Hunts, can't remember which; and another Ambrose Hunt, in Kentucky, believe it or not, who obtained a land grant of 50 acres in 1834 in what is now Butler County, KY. He has no connection, as far as I know, to my Hunts. This Ambrose married a Nancy Oller 11 Jan 1829 in Edmonson County, which is adjacent to Butler. Perhaps, just perhaps, this is the one that married Rachel Reed in 1789, as he was passing through Green County. This could be further supported by the fact that Green River, which flows through Greensburg, also flows through both Edmonson and Butler Counties of Kentucky, and was a favorite route to the west. Again, thanks to everyone who responded to my query. My apologies if I have bored you with all this. I did not intend to write a book when I started.......... Regards to All, M. Dean Hunt Louisville, KY

Jerry, Sandy et al: I need to explain that the notations about "Andrea I and II" are from my and Clara's PERSONAL notes. This is how we (just between the two of us and Bill Hunt of Fairport, NY) have referred to a packet of Andrea's notes that we have put together for our personal use. There is really NO SUCH THING as Andrea I and II. I'm sorry to confuse all of you on this. Andrea's neice had his papers and rented them out to persons who wished to copy them. Clara and Bill and I did this. She has since died and I do not know who has the written notes. His works on many families are available on microfilm at the South Caroliniana Library at the Univ. of SC in Columbia, SC. Jerry---your post is intriguing, but I think there are two different families here. Frankly, I am mixed up. I'll look it over. The "Susannah" stirs me up, but probably shouldn't. The proposed "father of the 14" (my proposal) is Thomas of Bedford Co., Va (later became Franklin Co. in 1786) whose wife was "Ann". Could this be short for Susannah? Hmmmm. But I do not know of a connection with NC. Hmmmm again! Sandy, thanks very much for the note in response to my Thomas HUNT query renewal. Felicia GOURDIN wrote to me as well. I am the Jerry A. HUNT that you quote in the note, just living at a new address in Austin, and STILL searching for the origin of earliest known HUNT ancestor. But, your note did bring some questions to me. First, I do not know the writings of "Andrea" that you use as reference (Below "See Pg. 38 Andrea" and "Andrea II Pgs. 12, 13, and 38"). Second, I am especially curious about the record of a deed from a Thomas HUNT and "Susannah", his wife, both of Bute Co. NC, to Josiah ELY, (Her DOWER?)--250a, a grant to Thomas HUNT 17 Feb 1750--deed dated 05 Nov 1771, Warren Co. NC. I have, in the past, thought this referred to the "other" Thomas HUNT (up the River) with a wife named Susannah. Perhaps this is improper thinking. But, the last record (I think) that shows my Thomas HUNT's wife as named Elizabeth is one where she and Thomas HUNT sell 300a to a Thomas FLOYD, dated 25 Oct 1768, but in Warren Co. NC DB 2 Pg. 255. I guess my Thomas HUNT could have had a new wife by 1771--he should have been about 50 years old by then. Do you (or others) possibly have more data that points to a union of a Thomas HUNT and a Susannah (Unknown)? Third, I do not have a copy of a deed by Thomas HUNT dated 8 Feb 1789 that names children and some grandchildren. Do you have the details on this? Fourth, insofar as I currently know, the only unidentified child of my Thomas HUNT and (presumably) his wife Elizabeth is the daughter who married Drury MASSEY. For a time there was some question about his son John HUNT, but I think the greatest problem with him is that we do not yet know just what became of him and his probable family. Again, I do appreciate the responses from the HUNT searchers on this list--I will try to be more diligent in my searching, and in my responses. Sandy, I will send this direct to you, but copy the LIST, so you will get two copies, I suppose. Thanks for looking, Sandy. Nathaniel (married Mary Elizabeth White) is mentioned in the 'Handbook of Texas' as a boundary commissioner for the Eastern boundary of Texas & it is also mentioned that 'He was a relative of Memucan Hunt'. He was on the mortality schedule that went with the US Census of 1850 for San Augustine County, Texas as having died of 'RHEUM PAINS'.
