Greg- Possibly more than you asked for.:please reply! 1. Sarah Hunt who married Thomas Bryan-Sarah's mother was Mary Smith, first wife of Col. Jonathan of Rowan County. 2. When was Ralph Hunt of LI first seen? Some say that this Ralph Hunt came to America in 1635 at age 22. Never proven. Penn. Register of Colonial Dames, p. 221: "Ralph Hunt, Newtown, Long Island, Lieut. under Gov. Nicholls in 1655". We have no problem with this. Will recorded at Hall of Records in N. Y. Will admitted to probate Feb. 26, 1676/7. The earliest information on Ralph Hunt is his arrival on Long Island near Manhattan Island in an area governed by the Dutch in 1652 "among a party of Englishmen". Some have added "came from England" but that is something not yet established as of 1985. For a meaningful and accurate treatise on this Ralph read Mitchell Hunt's "An Evaluation of the Consuelo Furman Manuscript" 1985. Copies available from LDS. His will dated Jan12 1676 codicil 13 Jan 1676-7, administration granted 25 Feb. 1676-7 to his son Edward as sole executor with Captain Betts and John Burroughs as overseers. He died at Newtown Long Island. Will could be in Hall of Records as stated above. When he came to America is a matter of speculation in spite of other speculative dates published in other genealogies. Lewis D. Cook of Philadelphia, PA has made the most thorough examination and documentation yet found on the descendants of Ralph Hunt of Long Island. Work extending through the period 1940-1970, with an unpublished manuscript and two other volumes of supporting information filed with the Pennsylvania Historical Society Library in Philadelphia. THE NAME OF HIS WIFE and where and when they were married has not been found with reliability although there are different versions of her name as Ann, some saying Jessup. (Furman gives her name as Elizabeth Jessup, which is questionable and inconsistent with other dates on the Jessup family)(NOTE: She had a daughter ANNA.) Wife Not mentioned in husbands will. of 1676/77. 3. I know nothing of a Thomas an ancestor of Ralph. This is the stuff that fairy tales originate in spite of other erroneous manuscripts. 4. There are other Thomases.such as Thomas of Westchester whose origin is also obscure. No relation to Ralph of LI. 5. What did Col. Jonathan of Rowan County do to become a Colonel? ..Actually nothing and he wasn't a colonel in the British Army as some would tell you.. He was not a Loyalist but an American Patriot. He was called Colonel in the LOCAL NC militia trying to protect the settlements from Indian attacks.. He was captured by Cornwallis who camped on his farm and destroyed most of his property except the house. Took COL. Jonathan prisoner but released him because he was too old to march and let him go home. There is no evidence that Col. Jonathan served in the revolution except on the committee of safety. .One thing he did well---raised 19 children by three wives. There are numerous errors printed about Col. Jonathan and his family in many otherwise accurate works. Most of these errors were discovered in the last 20 years and corrections can be found in several Mitchell J. Hunt manuscripts published as late as 1995. A good sample of this is on the HUNT WEBSITE. Questions?? Sandy Hunt Lubbock Texas he HUNT WEBSITE. Questions?? Sandy Hunt Lubbock Texas

To my knowledge, none of these Hunt families are related to me....but maybe, one day, some one that is related will show up here on this list (not a single soul to date, after more than a year) I am providing this information from a book that recently came into my possession that has information that may not be available elsewhere. I do not certify that any of this information is valid or accurate, just that I transcribed it from the book listed below: Historic Graves of Maryland and the District of Columbia, with the inscriptions appearing on the tombstones in most of the counties of the state and in Washington and Georgetown. Edited under the auspices of the Maryland Society of the Colonial Dames of America, by Helen W. Ridgeley, 1908. Baltimore County, MD, p. 123-124: On a farm near Hunt's meetinghouse, to the right of the road going to Rockland, is the Job Hunt burying ground, in which the following inscriptions are found: In memory of Samuel, son of Job and Margaret Hunt, born Jan. 1st, 1772; departed this life Feb. 10th, 1779. In memory of John Hunt, who departed this life 18th, day of Feb.1809, in 62 year of his age. Margaret Hunt died Feb. 26th, 1794, in 47 year of her age. A loving industrious wife, a Tender mother and Endulgent (sic) Mistress. Eliza Hunt, was born Aug 11th, and departed this life Jan. 1784. Answering Larry Hunts question to me, has turned into a book--I think it has ineresting enough. genealogical overtones that everyone might like to read it. Do you mean where can you get a death certificate or who does the paperwork on the original death certificate?. Original is done by the military HQ for whom you work or if an Embassy or other entity a consular officer may do it. As per usual the "informant " is key to the information on the certificate. It may be true, believed, a best guess or completely phony cover-up. If its a cover-up then the name of the informant may be forged also.. The informant's name, residence and relationship, if any, should be helpful. If you mean where can you get a copy depends on the date. For all military go to National Archives for info. They will probably prescribe a FORM or mail you one. If you are to get a death certificate you may as well ask for complete service record. The military may be sensative re showing causes of death in death certificates......because of security, the possible effect on live relatives and/or a bad reflection on the military service. Everyone looks after #1!. If she/he committed suicide or any other dumb mistake that took his/her life the death certificate will probably read "due to enemy action", "pilot error" etc without details. However the details MAY be in the person's service record. If really sensitive you may never find out. May have been a spy behind enemy lines, a Marine guard at an Embassy on an internationally sensative issue, or really a CIA operative. There are a some CIA persons in military uiniforms in various ranks and jobs. You will seldom, (not never), find out about these people unless you are in the intelligence or cryptography business (at the right place at the right time). This is the way it should be. The death certificate may be as phony as a three dollar bill(US), which fortunately, is the exception and not the rule... http://www.nara.gov/regionals/stlouis.html if that doesn't work just go with www.nara.gov. This may be a duplicate. Try this on for size for your MARCELLUS HUNT- . Nathan Hunt, b. 12 March 1801, purchased from agents of John Jay land in Jay, VT, in 1828 and settled there along with his brother Appleton and cousin Eli Hunt. They were among the first settlers of Jay before the town was organized on 29 March 1828 at which time Nathan was elected constable and collector, also hayward and petit juror. Nathan m. 1st 26 March 1832 Lydia Chapin of Westfield, VT, who died at Westfield in April 1853. He m. 2d 28 Feb 1863 Susan Barnes at Troy, VT, and died at Jay in 1878. No accurate record of his children has been found. The "Marcus" Hunt who m. Mary "Puchey" at Newport, VT, and had a son Luther M. Hunt, b. Stanstead, Que, abt 1874, is identified in Troy Town Records as son of Nathan Hunt. (Luther M. Hunt was a RR brakeman at Newport, VT, when he m. Edith M. Smith at Newport 11 Sept 1895 and had a dau. Jessie Edith Hunt b. at Newport 25 March 1900.) This "Marcus" was prob. the Marcellus (or Marseilles) Hunt, b. abt 1838, who enl. in the Civil War for Derby, VT, and was in Westfield, VT, in the 1860 census. Marcellus Hunt is shown by VT Civil War Records to have enl. at age "age 21" 22 April 1861 for Derby, VT, in Co. D, 3rd Regt., and re-enlisted 21 Dec. 1863, promoted corporal, promoted sergeant 14 May 1864, transferred to Co. E 25 July 1864, discharged 16 May 1865 for wounds received at Cold Harbor, VA 3 June 1864. He was in action during the major battles of the Civil War including Antietam, Fredericksburgh, Gettysburgh, Wilderness, until disabled at Cold Harbor. With such a distinguished history of Civil War service, it is surprising that so little can be found on Marcellus Hunt. In the 1860 census he is listed as Marseilles Hunt, living in Westfield, VT, with the Hodgekins family, along with a "Mascal" Hunt, age 15, who was prob. his brother. This Mascal Hunt is prob. the same shown as Maschil Hunt "of Troy" who enl. "at age 18" 1 Aug 1862 in Co. K, 10th Regt, promoted sergeant 12 Dec. 1862, wounded 19 Sept 1864, mustered out 22 June 1865. He went through the Wilderness campaign and was prob. wounded at Winchester, VA. Nothing further has been learned of this Maschil Hunt. There wer several Charles Richardson Hunts and I can't lay my hands on them but they both dropped their first names and were known as RICHARDSON. Sandy Hunt Lubbock TX

One more try on Clarkey. Clarkey Hunt (Hunter) Low mar. Dempsey Jay on 11/15/1827 in Randolph Co., IN. Dempsey was from a Quaker family but I don't know about Clarkey. The thought is that she was first married to a "Low" and her second marriage was to Dempsey. Although there are several records of Clarkey after her marriage, her parents and siblings are unknown. An Iowa census lists her as born in SC on 2/14/1803. She died 11/28/1858 in Salem, IA. Clarkey is an unusual name and I did run across a Clarkey Young mar. to a ____ Low in the early 1820's in Virginia. Coincidence? Also, there was a James L. Hunt in the 1850 Henry Co., IA census, also born in SC. His youngest child was a baby named Clarky Hunt. Might James have been Clarkey's brother? If you know anything about Clarkey's early years or who her family might have been, please contact me. Thanks. Gloria Lamm Thanks. Gloria Lamm

Looking for info on Barbara HUNT b. 1788 in Maryland to Elizabeth (nee?) and (first name unknown) HUNT. Elizabeth died Sept 25, 1841. The HUNT family must have lived near the Pennslyvania border in Maryland or moved into Pennsylvania by 1810 as Barbara md John JOHNSON in 1811 Pa.
