Hello HUNTers, A short while ago I posted a query to this list, and others, regarding a conflict I had with the name of the wife of Ambrose HUNT, son of Joseph L. HUNT, of Halifax Co., VA. If you remember, I said that I had always *assumed* ( I have no definite proof) that the wife's name was Rachel Tunstall, whom Ambrose married at some unknown date in Halifax, Lunenburg or Charlotte Co. VA. Then I find the new LDS FamilySearch site that Ambrose HUNT had married Rachel REED in Greensberg, Green Co., KY about 1789. (??!!??) Green County, Kentucky did not even exist in 1789 let alone Greensberg! In 1777 Fincastle Co., VA was divided into three new counties; Washington, Montgomery and Kentucky. In 1780 Kentucky Co., VA was divided into Jefferson, Fayette and Lincoln Counties, VA. Over the next few years several new counties were formed by dividing the original three, and Green County was formed out of Lincoln and Nelson in 1792. On 1 June 1792, Kentucky became a State. Further search of the LDS FamilySearch site revealed an Ancestral File that lists this Ambrose HUNT as born about 1760 in Greensberg, Green Co., KY, and was the son of John HUNT and Catherine (HUNT)----------. The AF also shows a marriage to Rachel REED about 1780 in Greensberg, Green Co., KY. I have searched through all my notes and Felicia and Clara's File and can find no John HUNT (many, many of those) who had a wife Catherine. Does anyone have any information on this Ambrose HUNT, s/o John and NOT the Ambrose HUNT, s/o Joseph of Halifax Co., VA And what was he doing in Green Co., KY before Daniel Boone and others ever came though "The Gap?" HUNT who married EPHERETTA ROBERTS [or GINTY, possible first marriage], date unknown, place possibly Maine. They had a son born perhaps in Minnesota or perhaps in Maine in 1869, HERBERT VINCENT HUNT who married my grand-aunt MARY EGAN SHEPHARD in 1890. Herbert once gave his father's place of birth as Switzerland and his mother's as Germany - which may mean that either or both names were originally something else. Herbert HUNT and Mary EGAN SHEPARD (any spelling) had three sons who lived to adulthood and married - these were my father's first cousins - making me feel that the children of those sons are out there somewhere for me to find. Thanks for any information. Ginny Crawford VCrawf@aol.com Carmel Valley CA USA

Edward Hunt married Ann Weed on 10 Feb 1674. He died 23 Dec 1727 in Amesbury, Essex County, MA. There are theories as to who his father was, but nothing definite - mainly because of courthouse fires over the centuries. Ann Weed ( 26 Jul 1657 - after 1729) was the daughter of John Weed and Deborah Winsley. The known children are: Mary, John, Ephraim, Hannah, Samuel, Nathaniel, and Thomas. I am descended through Samuel. Some of the documentation may be found in: "Genealogy of the Name and Family of Hunt" by T. B. Wyman; "The Old Families of Salisbury and Amesbury, Massachusetts" by David W. Hoyt; the "Vital Records of Amesbury" by the Topsfield Historical Society; "Vital Records of Newbury" by the Essex Institute; "Vital Records of Newburyport" by the Essex Institute; "New England Marriages prior to 1700" by Clarence Almon Torrey; "The Pioneers of Massachusetts" by Charles Henry Pope. I have more detailed information if you like - which line are you descended from? Scott Baker Janna Bennington Larson wrote: > Would like to know more about Edward Hunt who m. Thanks Richard. ----- Original Message ----- From: gold.coast To: SBH3@prodigy.net Sent: Friday, June 25, 1999 4:42 AM Subject: William Oaks Hunt I just got back from a business trip to England. On a stroll, I came across a headstone at the Holy Church of the Trinity, in Stratford on Avon (town of Shakespeare's birth & resting place). William Oaks Hunt, Clerk of the Peace of the County of Warwick for 52 years. Town Clerk for the Borough of Stratford upon Avon for 46 years. Died 16 March 1873 age 78. The grave appeared to have some prominence.....it was very close to the church, much larger than those around it, slightly raised and the headstone was more square & massive than most others. Hope this helps someone. Richard Hunt gold.coast@cwix.com t gold.coast@cwix.com =20 =20 =20

Records of individual soldiers, however, are not so easy to find. The Civil War Research Database is a historic effort to compile and link all available records of common soldiers in the Civil War. Historic Data Systems has compiled and interlinked a wide array of records including state rosters, pension records, regimental histories, photos, and journals. The genealogical value of this record is immeasurable. More than authoritative names and dates, this database connects researchers with the history their ancestors lived.

I just found that Herbert Vincent HUNT, son of Robert Hunt and Epharetta XXXX, who gave a birthdate of 1 April 1866 and a birthplace of Brunswick, Maine when he was married in 1890 - was actually born on 1 April 1869 in Minnesota. I know this is the same guy because the parents are the same. The birth record (LDS-IGI) adds that Epharetta's surname was ROBERTS. Does anyone have any other information on this HERBERT VINCENT HUNT ? Herebert's nose must be as long as Pincocchio's, by now - but of course his parents may have told him he was born in Maine - what would he know???!!! About the age - he may not have wanted his bride to know that he was four years younger than she. I also learned that Epharetta ROBERTS married a Michael GINTY in Sagadahoc, Maine, in 1866. What tha ????? Then she went to MN and had Robert Hunt's baby in 1869, and then went back to Maine to live with Robert HUNT?! What happened to Michael GINTY? Or did Michael change his name to Robert HUNT? I'd appreciate help on this, if anyone has any insights into the situation or familiarity with these names. Many thanks!
