Dear List, I am new to the Hunt list and am basically new to genealogy with many questions and lots of thanks for this great venue. My Hunt lines (I have 2 so far) are: Mary Hunt b. 28 Set 1664 in Rowley, Essex, Eng. m. Thomas Wood Jr. on 16 Jun 1693. I am reasonably sure that her f. Nehemiah and m. Mary Toell (Tool, Towle) are correct too. Nehemiah's f. William b.1604 in Halifax, Yorks, Eng. and m. Elizabeth Best b. abt. 1607. William's f. Robert b.abt. 1565 in Halifax, Yorks, Eng. and m. Jaine Fysher b.about 1569. This is all that I have on this line and am searching for Mary's m. place. and Nehemiah's m. place. Also if anyone knows if Jaine Fysher is correct and any info on her line? The other line I have just found is: Ann Hunt b 1635 who m. Thomas Wood Sr. who was b. 1634. That is absolutely all the info I have about them other than I think Enos was Ann's f. What is confusing is that one Hunt (Mary) m. Thomas Wood Jr. and the other Hunt (Ann) m. Thomas Wood Sr. Do any of you out there know of this family? Thanks so much. Take good care. As always, Gayle Strom As always, Gayle Strom

You might want to try and track down the MILTON middle name -- I believe that it was a fairly prominent county North of Atlanta for a long time. Not even sure if it exists now. Good luck in your search. Zou Feagin zfeagin@aol.com
Hi, In answer to question about John Hunt involving GA and AL. My GA John Hunt was born about 1780 in ?, possibly NC but lived and died in GA. He died 15 July 1831 in Greene County, GA, where there is a Will in said county. He served in the War of 1812 (good records from National Archives). He married Elizabeth Sorrell on 15 Oct 1803 in Greene County, GA. I have lots more on down if this is the John Hunt you need. His descendants moved to Alabama and on to Arkansas. Dee

I got this from another list don't know if you everyone knew about it so I thought I would pass it on. Tammy The Roots PC: Mormons ready new download The Mormons will follow their popular FamilySearch.com site by releasing a family tree organizer for the PC. By Ashley Craddock, ZDNN June 25, 1999 12:33 PM PT UPDATED: 2:01 PM PT The Mormon Church is making computerized genealogical research easier than ever before. As of Monday, June 28, the Church is offering free downloads of Personal Ancestral File 4.0, a new Windows-based version of its genealogical management program. The new software program is available at www.familysearch.org. The program does not provide genealogical data. Instead, it helps users organize their family history records, then obviates the need for illegible trees hand-written in ancient, spidery script. The program also creates charts and logs to help users in their search for missing ancestors. The Mormon Church, which has been gathering genealogical records across the world for more than a century, houses a mother lode of information. It operates more than 3,400 Family History Centers and houses a huge collection of records at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, which boasts records of more than 2 billion names. Match made in heaven The Internet and the Mormons are seemingly a match made in heaven. Family history research ranks among the most popular Net-based activities around. Coincidentally, family history research is considered a religious obligation among the Mormons. ______________________________

Insufficient information and no signature. Give us a clue : Your name, your relationship, dates, geographical area (country, state, county, family line if known , where did you GET the names and do you have a positive link to them. A positive link is a paper trail. I know, I know--if you knew all that you wouldn't have put the message to the list. Anyway have another go at it. I am looking for information on Stephen HUNT, son of John HUNT of Pulaski Co., KY. Stephen was born @ 1804 in Pulaski Co., KY and md. Nancy Wallis THURMAN in 1822. The 1830 census for Pulaski Co. shows Stephen and 4 daughters along with his wife. I have not found Stephen in any later census records in KY or any surrounding states. John HUNT, the father of Stephen, also had another son named John HUNT Jr. who md. Polly Gill in 1826 and later Rachel Meece in 1834. Both marriages were in Pulaski Co. where John remained thru at least the 1850 census. I haven't searched later census records for Pulaski Co. yet to see if he remained there. Another son is possibly Daniel HUNT who is enumerated on the same page in the 1830 census. John HUNT Sr. according to the 1820 and 1830 census records was born bet. 1761-1770 and maybe the John HUNT who md. Rhoda CHANEY in 1804 in Pulaski Co. as this date would be in line with the ages of the above 3 children of John HUNT Sr. Any info is appreciated. Kent Wellington KentWell@aol.com

In my 10 years of research I have expanded the ' file ' from 72 people to 3261 .... WHICH I DOUBT VERY MUCH I would have been able to do without the ' Start ' I got from ' Ancestral File ' , In fact I strongly recomend every one should start there family research with a look at Ancestral File ...... 75 % or more of every thing I have pulled out has been essentially correct , maybe a few duplications or just outright errors , but with a liitle research / looking for the records I have made many forward strides . AS LONG as you realize it could very well be incorrect , Phil

7/2/99 Sandy, Dean, and list: While it is true there is a lot of misinformation on the LDS files, they are a great starting place, after all your own family information is exhausted. I ALWAYS contact the submitter. Found a cousin who had submitted my Hunt line starting with John in 1798, and she had errors, too. I contacted her, in Alaska, and we sorted out the truth between us. It helped both of us. I should make corrections at LDS so no one else will perpetuate the errors. Sometimes the submitter has moved, died, or otherwise cannot be found but most of the time they are available. I think there is a lot of misinformation anywhere, but LDS files have more going for them than against them, as a source of clues. Pat

Dean- What you find in LDS Ancestral files and CD-Roms shouldn't surprise you. Frankly I never look at them except under dire circumstances for LEADS. AND THEN I don't believe a word of it until I contact the source. You have been around long enough to know not to believe anything you read especially in files that ACCEPT ANYTHING from anyone without proof. I will stick to TUNSTALL until someone proves me wrong. I can't find an AMBROSE s/o John in the right time frame but I haven't looked at all my files yet. No Johns and Catherines either. Certainly someone of our 400 subscribers can find them if they are there. I recommend you contact the SOURCE of all the LDS information and see where they got it. If LDS has it they know where it came from. Check it out. . There aren't 10% of LDS submitters who can prove anything unless they belong to the church. Good leads perhaps and lots of names but usually nothing more. I have checked LDS confirmed marriage records reported by various churches-not ancestral files- and find no AMBROSE marriage records. They never made it to LDS records. Sandy Hunt Lubbock Tejas
I am very interested in learning more about your line of Hunts. My ancestors name is John Hunt (as is a few trillion others). However this John Hunt turned up in Western Samoa. We don't know exactly when he arrived but his first child was born in 1852. His gravestone states that he was born 5th August 1822. The only other information known is general hearsay that has been passed through the family part of which states that he was a sailor (which is why I'm very interested in your email Margaret) and that he came from Birmingham. Does anyone have a John Hunt that disappeared around this time with this birthdate?
