    3. I not sure where we are in this discussion it started as I remember it was with the James Hunt who Lucy Wimbish signed a statement in support. She said he lived near her father Elijah Hunt and was a cousin. We know from the application he married Rhoda Nunnelee and moved to Henry County, Virginia. The only James Hunt who could possibility be a first cousin was James Hunt son of Charles. This James Hunt who was a son of Charles Hunt moved to Tennessee and applied there so he was not the one she was referred to in her statement. Because of subject James Hunt age he could not been a grandson of Joseph Hunt brother of James Hunt 1703-1795. We know from looking at "all" Rev War pension applications at the National Archives that at least three Hunt Rev War veterans moved from Charles County, Maryland to the Charlotte/Halifax County, Virginia area about the time of the Rev War. They were: 1)Abraham Hunt b-August 6, 1762 in Charles County, Maryland--lived there until seven years old (1769)--then moved to Charlotte County, Virginia--father John Hunt ---Private US Army 3 months there--- lived Charlotte County, Virginia 17 years (1796) ---moved to Wilkes County, NC---lived there 16 years---moved to Wayne County, Kentucky 2) Howell Hunt --We have only his widow application which started he was born in Charles County, Maryland and lived in Halifax County, Virginia early in the War. In 1778 they moved to Wilkes County, NC. ---He died 1793. 3) Thomas Hunt born 1747 Charles County, Maryland where he enlisted and was discharged. After moved to Halifax County, Virginia where he lived until 1810 and then moved to Rutherford County, Tennessee. (The legend in my family that he moved from Halifax to Rutherford with his cousins. Note the James Hunt son of Charles Hunt moved there also.) Back to the James Hunt who Lucy Wimbish furnished a supporting statement saying he was a cousin. I believe that the subject James Hunt maybe have been part of the Hunt family that moved from Charles County, Maryland to Charlotte/Halifax Counties area about the time of the Rev War. It important to note that the father of one of these was a John Hunt. James Hunt (1703-1795) had a brother named John Hunt which we have not identified. I offer this John Hunt as the best candidate we found. To support that assumption I proved to my satisfaction that Thomas Hunt's family whom I descend referred to the Hunts who settled in the Charlotte/Halifax Counties earlier as cousins, I can only assume they were related. I would very much like to say John Hunt the father of at least one veteran was James Hunt's (1703-1795) brother. Appreciate anything anyone may have to support or deny this assumption. 2. Judy, I have the same information you have, and believe it to be right. Going to be off line for a few days. I think the two last names on Fleetwood`s list of Am.Rev.Srv. in S.Va. Richardson Hunt and William Hunt, were sons of Elijah Hunt.

    2. Fleetwood: I just finished copying all three of the James who are accepted as REV WAR soldiers, from Patrick Wardell's: Virginia & W. VA. Rev. War Records, Vol 2. Then I "lost" it, as my computer has been doing so often lately. I will attempt to copy it again tomorrow night, but have to quit tonight. The James who was s/o James Sr. moved 12 years after the RW to Henry Co, Va where he died 2/8/1803. He married Rhoda Nunnelee. I'll try again tomorrow. The James Hunt, s/o Charles, is the one who married Christiana and moved to Rutherford Co, TN 1839. (as you said) (Now---who is the Charles in SC?) Excedrin headache, again! 3. I disagree that Lucy (Hunt) Wimbish was referring to James Hunt son of Charles Hunt of Charlotte County, Virginia. We have this James Hunt pension application made in Tennessee in which he list his wife wife as Christana. This James Hunt also stated his father was Charles Hunt and gave his family. His father Charles Hunt died in Charlotte County, Virginia and left a will dated October 15, 1785. His widow re-married in Charlotte county. If there is a marked to Charles Hunt son James Hunt (1703-1795) in SC it is error but that won't be the first misplaced marker. I know of nothing that this Charles Hunt did which would warrant a historical marker. Fleetwood fgourdin@mindspring.com wrote: > Fleetwood: This makes sense---thanks! He died Feb. 8, 1803 at the age of 74 years old which means he was born in 1724. He enlisted in Halifax County, Virginia and returned there to live for 12 years before moving to Henry County, Virginia. He married Rhoda (I believe her maiden name was Nunnelee) Dec 25, 1787. Their children were: Spencer Trent Hunt---------b----16/1788 Betsy Robinson-------------b 1/16/1790 Frankey----------------------b 10/5/1791 Nancy Spain-----------------b 4/14/1793 Lucy--------------------------b 8/18/1794 Edward----------------------b 8/-/1796 Suannah----------------------b2/26/179- Lucy Wimbish (daughter of Elijah Hunt and gramnddaughter of James Hunt (1703-1795) stated he lived near her father Elijah Hunt in Hallifax County, Virginia. Lucy stated that the subject James Hunt was a cousin. Fleetwood

    1. Re: [HUNT-L] Information please on Ralph Hunt of Virginia
    2. Fleetwood: No, Lucy was NOT referring to her grandfather, James (b. 1703 /w wife Sarah Whitlock) as her cousin. She was referring to Charle's son, James. Charles DID move to South Carolina and there is a historical marker there to indicate where he had his plantation. Yes, I would like to see a copy of the Charle's will who died in Charlotte County. The deposition take from Lucy Hunt Wimbish is difficult to interpret, I will admit. I think we would need to see it in the original on microfilm. The copy that I have (and I presume it is the one you have) is a transcribed copy and there are two words which could have been interpreted differently, according to who read it. In the last sentence, it reads: "Mrs. Lucy Wimbish, widow of James Wimbish, a Rev. pensioner who resided in Halifax Co., declares she is a cousin of James Hunt, Husband of Rhody (and/who---which?) lived in the neighborhood of (her/his---which?) father Elijah Hunt." How you read this makes a great deal of difference. Clara and I think it reads, in the first instance---"who"; and, in the second instance---"her". What do you make out of your copy? Do you agree that Charles had a son, James? He names him in his will. This would make James Hunt, husband of "Rhody" a first cousin; do you not agree?
