Obituary: Nunda, N. Y., April 2 - John N. CLARK, a lifelong resident of Nunda and Portage and a nephew of former Governor Washington HUNT, died at Dr. LEE's Hospital in Rochester on the 30th ult., where he had been for two weeks. Mr. CLARK was born at Hunts and was the son of Greenleaf CLARK, who conducted a tannery there when the little hamlet of Hunts was flourishing. Mr. CLARK was 78 years of age and was well known throughout this section. His wife has been an inmate of the State Hospital in Rochester for the past three months. One son, C. J. CLARK of Eldrea, Pa., and one daughter, Mrs. Ethel BARBER of Nunda, survive. The remains were brought to Nunda for burial in Oakwood [source: Rochester, Monroe, N.Y.; Union Advertiser; April 2, 1912] *Note: the middle initial in the obit does not match my record of middle name Henry, but the information seems to indicates they are the same man. John Clark was the son of Greenleaf Clark, Jr & Elizabeth Hunt; and g-son of Sanford Hunt & Fanny Rose. Any input from descendants of this Hunt line? Uriah Hunt was born 1757, not 1775. Sorry for the inconvenience, was called to phone & lost my thought. Two respondents answered "Huh?" Uriah Hunt was on the 1778 tax list created for Washington County, North Carolina, and listed as 1 tithe. It was the first such list for the new county. His first Entry for vacant land was also dated 1778. Sandy and List, I can vouch for many of Kate Cook's sources, since I have verified many (not all) of them. Neither she nor I have been able to confirm any parents for this Memican Hunt. In all likelihood he is related somehow to the Memucan Hunt who became Treasurer of North Carolina. As far as I know now, he was not closely related to my ancestor, Ambrose Hunt, who came to what was then Green Co., KY. The Memican Hunt above came to that part of Green Co. that remained Green when Taylor Co. was formed out of Green in 1848. One difficulty in researching this individual has been the wildly misspelled name in various documents. M. Dean Hunt Louisville, KY
