I am researching Thomas HUNT, born 1753 in Sandford, Devon, married (1) Frances HORNWILL and (2) Mary DISCOMBE. Many of his descendants left Devon for pastures new. Also WILLIAM HUNT born 1766 in Sandford (his brother?) Any information would be greatly appreciated. Cynthia HUNT Interests: HUNT EMERY ABBOTT ABRAHAMS OLWAGE SWART
Lynda- Thanks for your inquiry. I have nothing at all on your family but will forward your message to our subscribers even tho its borderline genealogy and closer to the missing persons category. I certainly would be in touch with the cemetery people for burial information and the location of any possible OBITS published at the times of death. Such things usually contain valuable information. Death certificates showing names and addresses of "informants"as well. My Grandfather was born in British Columbia and lived with his family in Regina for a time before moving back to Victoria, B.C. Where both Thomas and Johanna passed on. My mother followed in 1080-82. They are all buried in the Royal Oak cemetary, Victoria, B.C. My mother was a sister to three brothers, I think. I only got to meet one uncle named Brian Hunt from somewhere back East I think. Where abouts really unknown. Should you have any further information, I would appreciate what you may pass on as I have no knowledge of her family and would love to find them and get to know them. Thank-you Lynda Brownmiller

The National Park Service has a website called Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System. http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.htm At a minimum, type in a surname and a list of names of both Union and Confederate troops will be presented, along with the regiment. You can then click on the regiment, which will produce a page giving the history of that regiment, including where and when mustered, journeys, functions, actions seen, where and when mustered out, number of men wounded and killed, etc. This site is NOT complete, and is in the process of adding more names. Nevertheless, it is one of the best sites I have found to date in finding CW soldiers. Many states also have regiment sites. Good luck. Elwyn D. It is contrary to my personal routine to leave senders message attached. There is nothing that gauls me more than to send a couple of megabytes to someone who asked for information and than to have them send it all back attached to a short message saying "THANKS". The information requested was asking for Civil War units and people. *********************************************** Regarding the request for Civil War information- I have a Civil War commission hanging on the wall in front of me signed by Abraham Lincoln appointing my great grandfather, Sanford Beebe Hunt as a Surgeon of Volunteers and later after the war a brevit commission appointing him a Lieutenant Colonel. Other items are his record as Surgeon of the Southwest signed by President Johnson. Both items are also signed by the Secretary of War, Edwin M. Stanton. Signatures on the earlier commission are handwritten in ink while the latter signatures are rubber stamps. All his letters from work to this wife during the Civil War are in the NJ Historical Society and available to anyone who wants to read them. After the war he became a newspaper publisher in NJ. Much information re units and people of the Civil War can be found in most public libraries in genealogy sections.. Sandy Hunt Lubbock

I have a small book "Historical Sketch of Maury County" read at the Centennial Celebration in Columbia, TN July 4th 1876. In it there are two persons by the name of Hunt mentioned. One, Alfred Hunt, was one of the founding members of the first Masonic lodge in Maury Co. "Columbia Lodge No. 31". It was organized 10th of Nov. 1819. This is all the book states about Alfred Hunt. Then, (quote) "In speaking of Culleoka, we should have mentioned Dr. Jonathon S. Hunt, who, for many years, commanded an extensive practice and had great character for skill and success in his practice. He died about 1862 or 1863. " Felicia
Does anyone connect with this HUNT family that was in Indian Territory and Oklahoma in the early 1900's. I would really like to find the HUNT-TOWNSEND connection. I have an old picture of Mr. W. R. HUNT and family, taken in Soper, Indian Territory, Choctaw Nation. After 1907 and Oklahoma statehood, it would be Choctaw Co, OK. Other families lived in nearby Pushmataha, Co, OK. I believe W. R Hunt was married to Leona? TOWNSEND. There are 5 boys and 2 girls in the old picture. The Hunt Children are: Elbert, Willie-9, Lois?, Joe, 5, Maggie 3, M?-11, M?-7, B?, R?. The names are faded and hard to read. Hoping someone had HUNT family in OK or Indian Territory in the early 1900's and can connect. ANY help is appreciated! Thanks, Kathy

There are a couple of suspects in the LDS site, but not much to go on. I hope this gives you a little more data upon which to build your research. Good luck. Elwyn D. >From a Michigan Biography don't have the date) Major James Stone Hunt....born in Detroit December 23 1897, a son of Charles F. and Ina Florence (Simpson) Hunt. "hbis ancestry is traced backe to the Colonial period in American History, for he is a great great grandson of Colonel Thomas Hunt,(attn: Fairport Bill Hunt), who commanded a regiment of American troops in the Revolutionary war. Eldest son Col. Henry Jackson Hunt removed from NY to Detroit and served as a Colonel of of the militia from 1800 to 1818. 1826 elected mayor of Detroit." Never heard of these people but need a lead as to who they are--that is, their pedigree particularly NY area and the family line. I thought I knew all the Michigan Hunts!! Sandy Hunt Lubbock Texas
