This is an important document for Ralph of LI descendants of Ralph's son Edward recently received from Mitchell J. Hunt. ****************************************************************. Again, thanks for your letter and further enclosures. We have had a long and frustrating trip looking for the father of Edward of Fredon. It seems to me that the search has produced a lot of valuable information and narrowed the search to such an extent that I am 99% convinced that it must be Thomas-3, the son of Edward-2, (Ralph of LI-1)and I will try and state the conclusion concisely. I discount the possibility that Edward's father Thomas was of some other Hunt tribe than that of the descendants of Ralph-l of Long Island. From all that we have learned about Ralph's descendants only two Thomas Hunts appear likely to have been the father of Edward of Fredon. This was Thomas-3 (son of Samuel-2 of Maidenhead, who was the Thomas of Amwell) and Thomas-3 (son of Edward-2 by his second wife,(Hazzard), which Thomas appears to have been somewhat a mystery man because not much has been learned about him in any published works or records in LI and around Hunterdon Co., NJ) We can easily dismiss Thomas of Amwell. We know a lot about him and he had a son Edward of whom we know a lot. We know that Thomas of Amwell had a son Thomas, Jr., who obviously is the one of Greenwich who died in 1759. He obviously was not mentioned in the will of his father Thomas of Amwell because he would have died 30 years before his father, would have been only about age 19 when he died (if his baptism in 1740 as son of Thomas of Amwell and his wife Mary was close to his birth date which seems probable). He also appears to have been recently married inasmuch as he had a wife Jeanne but apparently had no children because none appearindicated in the settlement of his estate and none ~ mentioned in the Will of his father (who does mention children of his son Edward, which Edward also died before his father). So, if we eliminate this Thomas of Aniwell and his son Thomas, Jr., the only probability left is Thomas-3, son of Edward-2. We haven't found out much about him but what we have found is to me greatly significant. Thomas-3, son of Edward-2): We haven't found much on him in published works or in records in LI and around Hunterdon Co., NJ, but this is significant in itself. We know that he was born about 1703 in LI, oldest son of his father's 2d wife(Hazzard), that he was underage at the time of his father's will of 1715/16, and that the father's will left the family.homestead LI to Thomas and his.younger brother Jonathan. Presumably the mother contInued to live there until her death 1747 at which time Thomas -would have been about age 44 if living. That he was not mentioned in her Will. gives the impression that he might have died before then. But there are other possibilities, an obvious onebeingtliat he ha.4long left the family circle and her Will dealt with those closest to her at the time. She mentions her son Jonathan with whom she probably continued to live and also her two daughters. Jonathan appears to have removed to Hopewell, NJ, after the death of his mother, but Thomas had left for ilieremuch earlier. He appears to have been the Thomas who was admitted to the Hopewell Presby. CH in 1833 (at which time -. he would have been about age 30 and 14 years before the death of his mother. He is identified as the father of Margaret Hunt who m. Adam Ege (1728-1803), and inasmuch as their first child was b 6/24/1750, they were prob. m. about 1749 at which time Thomas would have been about age 46 and she was prob. b. 1730. Thomas would obviously have been married and probably had other children. An Edward b. in 1739 or 1744 could easily have been one of them. (I am intrigued, as I mentioned before, that the Jacob Hunt who died in Somerset Co. in 1757 might have been another son.) By legend Thomas moved up to around Fredon, Sussex Co., NJ, around 1756 or 1766 and nothing further has been learned of him. There is (to me) one very significant fact you have pointed out, which is the fact that six of the given names of Margaret (Hunt) Ege's children are the same names which Edward of Fredon gave to six of his children. I think this is more than a coincidence and it is highly probable that Edward and Margaret were brother and sister. It is also significant (to me) that in all of the places we might expect to find some record of Thomas and his wife and children (LI. Hopewell, Hunterdon Co., Greenwich, et. al.) no records have been tound, which would indicate that after leaving LI and briefly in Hopewell, he settled somewhere else, possibly in Somerset Co., and there are the puzzles you mention that you could find no record of Edward from 1756 to 1793 when he bought 470 acres in Fredon, and of course that no record has been found on what happened to father Thomas after 1756 or his wife, whoever she was. It is certainly an interesting puzzle which will continue to intrigue me. I do want to tell you that, thanks to all your good work, my present conclusion is that until someone can come up with some evidence to the contrary, Thomas-3, son of Edward-2, Ralph-of LI-1 is probably the father of your Edward of Fredon. With all best wishes, Cordially, Mitch Hunt
Cathy & Laura, Elijah Hunt was actually the son of Gershom Hunt and Elizabeth, his second wife, surname unknown - Eunice Fitzrandolf died in 1759 (3 children with Gershom) and Elijah was born abt. 1765. These are indeed his children you have listed minus the two eldest John and Sarah - Sarah married a Wilson - don't know anything further about John. Elijah died June 18, 1821 and his wife Johanna Wiseman must have died as well before 1827 and thus his children were left orphans. Johanna Wiseman's parents were William Wiseman b. abt. 1751 in Berks Co. PA, d. Sept. 17, 1805 in Rowan Co and wife Ann, surname unknown (son of Isaac b. 1700, d. 1799 & Mary also of Berks Co. PA to Rowan Co. NC)- since William was also already dead by the time of this event it is likely that the William Wiseman was William Jr., their son who was alive until 1867. William Jr. was married to Sarah "Sally" McBride and they eventually moved to Tipton Co. TN - I don't know if they took the Hunt children with them on the move but this may be where some of them anyway wound up if anyone is researching them. I don't have anything further on Elijah's children (spouses, children, dates) just that Sarah was married to a Wilson I do have children, spouses, dates, etc. on Elijah's siblings, ancestors and Johanna's siblings, ancestors, which I'd be glad to share. Abraham Hunt was Elijah's brother and he died intestate and unmarried in 1825. I am a (Ralph)Hunt descendant as well and also an (Andrew)Smith descendant (reference to Laura) of the same family that Sarah Smith was a part - who married Col Jonathan Hunt. My Hunt connection is through Anna Hunt daughter of Ralph Sr. who married Theophilus Phillips in Newtown, LI, NY, and the Smith through Sarah Smith daughter of Andrew Smith, who married John Park I of Hopewell, NJ. I have followed the Hunt and Smith lines as well as the Phillips and Parkes, and Wiseman's who married into the Hunts and who married extensively into my Owen family in Rowan Co. NC (my Parke ancestor married an Owen) because I have so many family connections that began in Hopewell NJ, went to Hampshire Co. WVA in some cases and wound up in Rowan (now Davidson & Davie) Co. NC. I feel a particular connection with these folks because I also grew up in Winston-Salem, NC just minutes away from the "Jersey settlement" in Davidson Co., and Huntsville, Yadkin Co. where I have many many family connections as well - and also grew up later in Flemington , Hunterdon Co.NJ just down the road from Hopewell NJ and I now am back, living in Winston-Salem NC. I'd be glad to help in any way I can further on these families and would enjoy sharing information that you may have as well that I don't. This forwarded email (below) was sent to me by my daughter, Pam Cooper who is the President of the Florida State Genealogical Society and is very involved in anything and everything that is "about Florida". She is also the Genealogical Librarian at the Indian River County Library in Vero Beach, Florida, so you can see she has a very special interest in this situation. Hi to All, It is good to be back on Hunt-L list again. Had to build a house so was off for a good while. Recently while looking over the 1840 census for Spencer Co., IN., I had a real surprise. My ancestor, Ralph Hunt Jr. b. 1772,PA migrated to Ohio Co., KY in the early 1800's. Mover across the Ohio river to Spencer Co, IN in abt 1822. I had seen the settlement of the estate of Ralph Hunt and assumed it was Ralph Hunt Jr. He was not in the 1840 index for Spencer Co. But as I have learned the index is only as good as the author. I wanted to look at Ede Hunt and how she fit into the program. And there next door to Ede Hunt was her father-in-law Ralph Hunt Jr. So now I must go back to the court records and find when did Ralph Hunt Jr. die? Good to be back, Rob Woods Woodland,WA [email protected]

Hi Sandy, Hmmm a time traveler I see.....ha ha....John Wiseman was obviously born Jan 24, 1780 (not 1870) - I have these folks - they are part of the Hopewell NJ Hunts who came to Rowan Co. NC - Annie's father Gersham was married to Elizabeth (surname unknown) - the only other sibling I've found for her is a Susannah Hunt who married John Deadman Oct. 9, 1805 in Rowan Co. Annie and John married April 20, 1800 in Rowan Co. NC and they eventually moved to Smith or Sumner Co. TN where they both died. I have a listing of their children - don't know if you want that or not. This Gersham Hunt was the son of Dr. Daniel Hunt b. 1726 d. 1802 and Susannah (either Lowrence or Greene - there is a debate - both families came to Rowan Co. from Hopewell NJ)....Dr. Daniel Hunt was son of John Hunt b. 1658 Newtown LI, d. Oct. 1, 1748, Hopewell NJ and Margaret Moore lots more information on all these Hunts. Jacob Wiseman was actually born Jan 12, 1746 in Berks Co. PA and was married to Elizabeth Henderson - I also have lots of information on their children and the rest of the Wiseman family as well. Looking for information on a Hobart Hunt. I came into possession of a list of individuals mentioned in a will of Miss Mary Hunt, d/o John and Hannah Hedger Hunt of Putnam Valley, Putnam County, New York. I've been able to identify most of then individuals except for Hobart Hunt. The legal paper was dated 1932 in Carmel, NY. Therefore I'm assuming Hobart living at that time period. Mary Hunt was born abt 1845 and died November, 1932. She was the granddaughter of Daniel and Margaret Travis Hunt of Putnam County. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Liz Maloy

I am trying to find any information possible about my Great-grandmother. She was supposedly born about 1869 in Cedar Key, Florida. She married Henan Swearingen in Fernandina Beach, Florida in the 1880's. I have no date of death, althoug I've been told it may have been about 1928. She was supposed to have been ill with TB and was taken from my Grandfather when he was only 6 - about 1904 or 1905. I haven't a clue who her parents were. I was told that she was a creole though. Any help would be appreciated. _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 with e-mail virus protection service: 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/virus

Sandra: I've looked at those Hardin County Hunts quite a bit also since my g.grandmother was from that family. In this 1880 census record, two males, Jackson age 14, and Arnell, age 12, were listed with the George Oliver Hunt family. This Arnell is a little older than the Arnold your looking for, but he's the only one I saw that was close. George Hunt had moved to Hardin county from Lawrence county in the 1870s. I have no idea who this Jackson and Arnell Hunt belonged to, I have found George Hunt and all his brothers in the 1870 census, and the two boys are not listed with any of them. Don't guess this is much help, but some names to look for anyway.
