    1. [HUNT-L] John Hunt line
    2. Robin Smith
    3. I thought I would post my line again to see if anyone has any connections. There aren't many dates, just names and some places. John Hunt was married to Ann Ladd daughter of John Ladd of the Albemarle-Fluvanna area of Virginia in the mid to late 1700's. Their son David was deeded some land by his grandfather John Ladd in the Rockfish creek area of Fluvanna county in 1778. John and Ann also had a son named John Jr. who married Judith Boldin or Baldwin. The family story is they came to Missouri with Daniel Boone or one of his son's around 1820. We have a death date of Feb 11, 1839 for John Jr. in Boone County Missouri. His heirs were named as Lenaus or Linneus B., Frederick K., Warren or Warner, Littleberry, and Lucynha. Warner or Warren had 3 sons, John who died in Nevada, Bill and then Frank. Frank went to Texas. Lenaus B.'s children Martha Ann who married John McMickle, William Burch, who married Mary Ann Conley (changed to Connelly I think) Juda or Judith who I believe married William Hulett according to Census records, John M., Henry C., Daniel W., Shelin F., and Elizabeth. Lenaus's wife was Rebecca Brushwood daughter of John Brushwood also of Fluvanna Virginia. Frederick married Helena Palmer daughter of James Palmer and Sophia Bruce of Garrard County Kentucky. They had two children Thomas Dickerson born in 1844 and Berry (named for uncle Littleberry) who died when small. Thomas married Mary Ann Williamson who was the daughter of John Williamson also of Virginia. Thomas's second wife was Nancy Elliott and he had Lenaus who married Vianna Coleman, and Alice who married Frank Coleman, then Phil Brushwood, then a Singleton, and finally Jake Dab. Like I said a lot of names ond not too many dates. If anyone has any leads or questions let me know. 1. FW: [HUNT-L] Hunt, John of Crittendon Co. KY
    2. Kenneth Shelton
    3. Sandy, I had uploaded my family file a couple years ago & it had the error of dropping out the extra "John" in what was a PROVISIONAL linage -- I didn't realize at the time some features of the LDS site: 1) Once you upload, you can't correct -- it is there for infinity (or until the web crashes). No way to recall it, no way to correct it, it just stays there. 2) Although my family file has a large number of notes & explanation text that puts the information in context, none of this gets displayed. They have to put it in a GEDCOM format, which drops / removes just about all the supporting text. While what is shown here is NOT from my posting, as the names differ -- I put in Martha "Patsey" Ellison, not just Patsey Ellison, and at the time I did not know John Hunt's wife's maiden name for sure -- thought it might have been Moore -- it appears that it might be based on my original posting due to the error in my post being repeated. The basis of this linage is as follows and it remains provisional at this time for reasons you will see: 1) Abel C. Hunt is in Smith Co TN. Gersham Hunt JR is on record in Smith Co TN. From land records, Gersham Hunt is also associated with the Agee family. A Power of Attorney recorded in Barren Co, KY on 14 Mar 1815, Robert Hawthorne of Barren Co, KY, Attorney in Fact for Gersham Hunt of Smith County, TN of the one part and James Kelsey of Barren Co, KY of the other part, for $160 sells 56 acres of land. Description follows. Also, an announcement in the Carthage Gazette in 1816 for lands on which taxes are overdue includes Gersham Hunt for land on Brush Creek. From the county records, both Abel C. and John Hunt were living in Brush Creek at this time. A deed from Smith Co, TN for Daniel Agee of 8 July 1817, proved 11 Aug 1817, 33 acres on Hickman's Creek, south side of the Cumberland River to Elias Gwaltney, was witnessed by James Thomas, Absalom Cox and Gersham Hunt. Daniel was a resident of Madison County, Mississippi Territory (later Madison Co, Alabama). 1820 census shows them in neighboring Limestone Co, AL & later in neighboring Lauderdale Co, AL. Lastly, on 26 Feb 1825, the estate of Yancey Hallman was entered, Little B. Hughes, Leander Hughes and Josiah Baird commissioners. William B. Elgin & Sally Hallman executors. Notes and accounts were held for the year 1819 on William Tyre, James Elgin, G(ersham) Hunt, J. Baird, J. Elison, Mrs. E. Martin and William B. Elgin. These records put Gersham Hunt JR multiple times in the same families as Abel C. Hunt. 2) The estate suit of Abel C. Hunt contains a deposition by Edward Atwood, who was the brother of Isaac Newton Atwood, husband of Hannah Hunt (dau of Abel C. Hunt). So, Abel was Edward's brother's father-in-law. The deposition relates to the fact that in or about the year 1838 through to at least 1842, Abel C., his wife Elizabeth, at least one daughter, were practicing members of the Mormon Church and held services at their house. Edward states that the "Mormon Preacher Daniel Hunt, a cousin of old Abel,..." was present and leading the services. From the LDS records, a short diary covering a few months of his missionary work in Kentucky in the 1840's still exists. Also, Daniel and his family were signers of the Mormon Petition for Redress over losses incurred during the Mormon War in Missouri, when the Governor illegally evicted the Mormon settlers from western Missouri. Thirdly, Daniel is on the Navoo, IL tax lists and followed Brigham Young to Deseret -- where he is enumerated on the 1850 Utah census. His full name was Daniel Durham Hunt. He is alleged as the son of Abel Hunt, the older Abel who was son of Dr. Daniel and brother to Gersham JR. It is a fact, from his will, that Abel had a son Daniel. It is a fact, from the Barren Co, KY tax lists that this son Daniel was born around 1798-1800. Unfortunately, after making out his will, Abel then began to settle incrementally with all his children. A series of deeds record his settlements with those from his 2nd marriage and most of those from his 1st marriage. His sons Oliver, Noah, and Daniel, although present on earlier tax lists in Barren Co, are gone by the time he starts doing this. These were executed prior to his death & a couple more were verified after his death by his administrator, wife Elizabeth. One son was named Alexander. Although there is circumstantial evidence for Daniel being Abel's son, it is still inconclusive. I have been looking for an obituary or some other contemporary document that would tie the Daniel, son of Abel, as being Daniel Durham Hunt. The name "Durham", of course, comes from Elder Thomas Durham, Minister of the Jersey Baptist Church from 5 Jan 1793 until 10 Oct 1812. Thomas Durham moved to Smith Co TN in 1812. 3) Abel C. Hunt's sons were named Gersham, John, Daniel, Alexander, Levi Bethel and Doctor Wiseman G. Hunt. Daniel Durham Hunt's sons were named John Alexander, James Wiseman, Levi Bunyan, Abel Moroni, and Gersham Alma as well as others Mormon-related (Benoni Smith, Mormon Brigham). Thus, it is proven, based on an eye-witness to the events, that the Mormon Daniel Hunt and Abel C. Hunt are related as cousins. The unusual religious connection of Mormonism at a time when it was very rare in the Tennessee area makes it highly unlikely that there were two Mormon Preacher Daniel Hunts (Preacher being the interpretation of what Southern Baptists of the time would call them -- they themselves never claimed to be ordained ministers, but were missionaries of the church -- the church elders were the people who were what would be called "officially ordained"). The LDS records only record one Daniel Hunt in this timeframe in this area -- Daniel Durham Hunt -- and he is extremely well documented as being such. The circumstantial evidence points to the Rowan Co, NC group as the source. Unfortunately, it is not known when & where Gersham Hunt JR died, so no estate record has been located. Also, I have not been able to obtain an obituary or other contemporary record on Daniel Durham Hunt to conclusively put him as the same as the older Abel's son Daniel. Now, the attribution of John Hunt comes from family word as far as I am aware. Although I don't have any real problem with the idea that John and Abel C. are brothers, unfortunately I have not seen anything in the way of proof of this -- although there is an extensive amount of circumstantial evidence and I would have to concede that they are directly related in some way (the odds that they would just gravitate together for such an extensive amount of time so closely doesn’t seem to be by chance, but the age difference is such that they could be cousins, uncle-nephew, and even removed by a generation from each other). This is still very much in work -- hence Edger's post! John 2 was not the father of Dr. Daniel, Another JOHN ,son of John -2 is missing, thus the pedigree line is incorrect. It's obviously somone's guess and the wrong GERSHOM. 3. I don't know if your Florida Hunts are related to mine or not however, it's probably likely. My Great-Grandmother was Gertrude Hunt who was the daughter of W.H. Hunt (I don't have a first name)he was born appromimatly 1837 in South Carolina. My Great-Grandmother was born in 1868 in Cedar Key (Levy County) Florida. They are shown living there in the 1870 Census W.H. Hunt, wife Malona, Gertrude (my Great Grandmother) & son Mead. I lose track of the family after that, however, my Great-grandmother married in Fernandina Beach (Nassau County) Florida. So there is probably some link there, if you or anyone else has any info on this, please let me know. _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: smart spam protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail

    3. I know very little about Tiller, but there's reason to believe the Tabitha /Unknown/ Hunt, widow of Charles, did marry Thomas Tiller. Catherine Lindsay Knorr compiled bonds and returns in Charlotte County in 1951. Her entry on p. 83 below. "4 February 1793. Thomas Tiller and Tabitha Hunt, widow of Charles Hunt. Sur. James Johnston. Returned to May 1793 Court by Rev. John Chappell. p. 198". Charles Hunt died testate in Charlotte before Sept. 1, 1788, date his will was proved. Tabitha qualified as Executrix in same court session. Thanks for sharing the Tiller research. I'll remember to think of Tyler too. As I did not do this research myself..I cannot vouch for it's veracity. However, the Tiller line is one with whom I am also attempting to hook up with for m,y George Tiller of Spotsylvania CO. b ca 1787. It is my understanding that some of the Hunt family resided in that portion of Goochland which became Albemarle>then Amherst>then possibly Nelson counties as some of my Layne documents mention neighbors Christian, New and Hunt in present day Nelson counties. 3. 1. Some Hunt families lived in the part of North Carolina, i.e. Washington County, 1778, long before Tennessee became a state in 1796. Some migrated to other TN counties later and of course to other states. In 1850 Federal Census of TN there are a number of people born before 1796 and some show 'birth place' as TN, although wills, marriages, taxes, court minutes, prove family origins in NC before 1796. 2. Sadly, there are only a scattered few Censuses for TN before 1830. About 22 counties are missing for 1820. And who said our research would be easy! Bill

    3. Great resource, but it's not complete. Be sure to check the county genweb page that you're interested in. I did a spot check, and a number of transcriptions I know of are missing from this list, apparently because they weren't done through this project. He married (1) ELIZABETH ALLEN Bef. 1821. He married (2) SARAH PARIS June 07, 1866 in Crittenden Co., Kentucky, daughter of OBADIAH PARIS and PATSEY ELLISON. Children of JOHN HUNT and ELIZABETH ALLEN are: ***The above is a portion of a response to Edgar Hunt's posting looking for the father of JOHN-5. The children and body of message not shown, look correct--but look at the top. The pedigree line is incorrect. There is no such pedigree.. John 2 was not the father of Dr. Daniel, Another JOHN ,son of John -2 is missing, thus the pedigree line is incorrect. It's obviously somone's guess and the wrong GERSHOM. I wish I knew which GERSHOM\Gershum was JOHN's father.. These are the types of errors that make life hard and bring to the fore material that was copied from someone else without checking. Now don't anyone get upset-it happens all the time! Ya gota be meticulous. Happy Valentines Day!! Sandy Hunt Lubbock

    1. [HUNT-L] Hunt Families born in NC that moved to TN

    3. There are several Hunt families that moved from NC to TN in the early 1800's. I have an ancestor that did the same. I think those that fit this profile, b: NC moved to TN, should come forward and share what they know about their Hunt family including their suspicions about who is or isn't a parent/sibling they are still looking for. This goes for other Hunt migrations as well. Instead of just names lets include where the individuals migrated from and where they settled. If we all send out the information, fitting the NC to TN movement, or post it we all might have a bit more luck with leads or crossing names off our potential list. It seems only a few people are sending out information these days or when they come across a list of vitals they just skim through for their name and leave the rest. I have tried to write down these other names and send it through the list in hopes it might help someone else. Genealogy is time consuming we know but think for a moment about this suggestion. It may only cost another .15 cents to copy that entire page and about 15-30 min. to transcribe it for the list but it is this one person who might send out the detail you have been searching for for years. And if you do find and send this information be sure to list the source as well and where you found it so others can document this information properly and find it themselves. I have not noticed many people doing this lately. This also goes for the internet searchers as well who find a great site that holds several Hunt names. Lets face it...the Hunt list is a bit void of information lately. Sure there are several inquiries about a persons family and this is helpful too but I know many of you are actively searching and finding information. No matter how small you think a bit of information is if it is not to much trouble to type it up and share it please do so for others. I am going to start doing this with the early NC census indexes I have on the Hunts. I have offered the look up in the past but I am just going to transcribe and then post them on rootsweb message boards. Please don't start emailing me right now with a request of a look up because I can't at the moment. But I will transcribe them. When I get the time I am going to look up each Hunt in NC and transcribe all the Hunts in NC and TN for the earlier census records. After that I will start on 1850 of all Hunts in NC and TN. This is my suggestion for those that are able to help. Just do what you can to share what you come across even when you know it is no relation to your genealogy. Not every one can do this and that is understandable but those that can or have the time and haven't already done so please take a few extra minutes to write down a little bit more. It would be so greatly appreciated by many. Thanks to those who have shared already! Tara
