    3. The Galveston Daily News Oct. 15, 1876 A Jewish journal of Pesth gives the career of Osman PASHA, the Turkish General whom the Montenegrins captured. He was born in Hungary, of a Jewish family named WOLF. This name he later changed to FARKAS, a word that has the same meaning. In 1849 he took a hand in the revolution, and after the subjection of Hungary, fled to Turkey where he adopted the Mohammedan faith. Being familiar with several languages, he was soon given a professorship in the military school at Constantinople. He was also intrusted with the instructing of the Sultan's children. During the Crimean campaign he conducted all the correspondence between the Turkish, French and English Armies. After the Crimean war he was elevated to the rank of Pasha. In his correspondence with his brother Bernhard WOLF, who is a member of the Jewish Synagogue in Pesth, OSMAN defends the Mohammedan faith with all the zeal of an orthodox Turk.
