Hello, I am researching the Surname of MARTON from Hungary, probably from the Zemplen area, maybe from Heves region. Does anyone know any villages where this surname may appear? As yet, I have not found any information on the documents here in the U.S. that would indicate where he originated. I'm searching for a Lajos Marton who came to America about 1901, lived in Scranton, PA for a time, then married and moved to Youngstown, Ohio. He was born on 24 August 1885. Dear Pat, The closest entry I could find was for Lajos Marton who arrived on November 1, 1900, age 18, from Erdőbénye, which is in Zemplen megye north of Tokaj. His destination was Youngstown. Birth dates are a little off, but it still could be the right one. He might have fudged his age when he immigrated, or you may have an incorrect birth year. Actually, it looks like the original age on the manifest said 16 and it was later for some reason changed to 18. He was going to an uncle, whose name is not clear. Maybe someone else could make a stab at it. It might be worth checking out the church records for Erdőbénye. Janet

LDS has Catholic (film #'s 623346-7), Reformed (624007-8) and Jewish (642952) records. If you know his religious affiliation check the respective film records. Of course if the above Lajos is not your guy, you will have to continue the search. Did you obtain his birth record from his marriage record? Then you should also have his parents' names.
