I just received this summary from the Banat Roots WEB, Susan Clarkson. She located the village of my Mato friend's ancestors. Can anyone offer a guess as to where in old Hungary the village of Bartfalva is located ? Thanks ahead of time, Gerald (Dobozy) Kisabeth Here is her findings: The birth record was in the Johannisfeld records. Andreas Mato was born 18 Nov 1890, baptised on 19 Nov. The father was Franz Mato, born in Bartfalva, the mother Catharina Soter, born in Otelek. They were living in Ivanda (no house number given). Otelek is is close by, the think the name of Bartfalva is misspelled and I don't know what the correct name might be. There is no town that I know called Puspocki, either. I looked at the manifest, and that is how it is spelled there. The manifest lists Ivando, the correct name is Ivanda. Although it lists the ethnicity as Romanian, he gives Hungarian as his native tongue. Kovach is also a Hungarian name.

Ótelek, on the other hand, was in county Torontál, district Párdány. You can also let her know about the correct (Hungarian) way of spelling for Kovach is Kovács. Gerald; BARTFALVA [or Bártfalva] = Bárdfalva OR Újbárdfalva OR Drágabárdfalva. -Bárdfalva was in pre-WWI Hungarian Máramaros varmegye, Sugatagi jaras; today is Berbesti in Romania. -Drágabárdfalva was in pre-WWI Hungarian Bereg varmegye, Munkácsi jaras; today is Dorobratovo in Ukraine. -Újbárdfalva was in pre-WWI Hungarian Bihar varmegye, Margittai jaras; today is Satu Barbã in Romania. IF Susan Clarkson is right and there is a misspelling [we do not think so!], then the original name could be only BARÁTFALVA and in this case there are at least 3 variants: Barátudvar, Kisbarátfalvu, Nagybarátfalvu.
