    3. Yesterday I read mail that I sent to a friend whose family came from the same "up country" village that my family came from. Actually I was informing him about an up cominmg meeting involving voting coming up in Hungary. The intent is to discuss how Hungarian registered voters can vote here in the US. How my mail wound up on "Digest" is beyond me but I enjoy reading it just the same when I have time. Thank you all. Hi Hubert, I have a copy of the 1925-1926 Nemesi Évkönyv, (1925-1926 Nobility Year book) and Nagy Iván, Magyarország Családai CD, (Nagy Ivan's Hungarian Families). If you email to me the names you are researching I'll look them up and let you know if there is anything listed. Joseph M. Published on the net for search, or as a second option, some printed material I could look for? Mainly interested in Vác. Is there any sensus office one can turn to, on the net? Have tried the Major office, but no reply. Perhaps they do not know any English? My family left Hungary for 199 years ago, so there should bee some trace left, if all has not been burned first, and then some else, by the Bolsheviks. Sthlm, Sweden. Th. morning. 23/2 2006 CET: 00: Dear Mme, This fuzzy picture format might most certenly depend upon file format of these pictures. If I therefor might kindly suggest you find a program where you can change from one format to another? (You might be able to do that at download or when storing them on your HHD, and your computer system asks where to store. In that window you shoud bee able to choose file format too). Most picture programms enlarge pixels, and then this fuzzy picture apears. In a file format that can bee enlarged by vector format (i.e. a JPG-file), then some of this, if not all, should desapere. You got my number Danny...like you I love to gab but I am always curious too and that can lead to trouble. Got my call from Frank tonight and he's real interested in the Hungarian Federation. That will mean Az and Calif. WOW! Frank works for Westinghouse and he's got brains+ personality so he would make a great area director. If he decides to take this mission I will do publicity coverage for sure. Now all I need will be a friend who can take pictures as I write the stories and newsletters. Well tomorrow I teach so back to this machine tomorrow night. Much of my own research lies on both sides of that border. So it really depends on what villages you are looking at. From what I can see, LDS has not yet covered all of the villages in Slovakia but they are continuing to work on it. The records for one village just became available within the last few months. As for joining "the Slovak List," there is so much overlap between Hungarian and Slovak genealogy, some people join everything available for both. The Slovak-Roots mail list on Yahoo is also quite active. More people should look at both, especially since the same issues arise and questions that may be fully answered on one often come up on the other and have to be answered again. It might be more economical if these sources were combined. We can never have too much information, right? I have been absent for some time and it is good to be back. The last ancestor died in Vas Megye; all but one daughter (oldest) of six came to America ... unfortunately no males to further the lineage. But the bloodline runs on through me and mine. :) While going through my notes, I ran across something I had written several years ago ... "The surname Pányi is associated with Zemplén Megye a former Hungarian County in Upper-Hungary (now in eastern Slovakia) and Nógád Megye which was a former Hungarian County located about 40 miles NE of Budapest." Question ... do I have to join the Slovakia List to further my research? I believe Zemplén Megye was given to Slovakia in 1920... but I am researching from '1820' Vas Megye, on back. What was the date Nógád Megye was dissolved? Can someone please point me in the right direction? I decided to take digital images instead of write them out by hand. Great idea.....unfortunately, they are a bit too small for me to make out. I think if they were in English I'd have no problem...but anyhow, does anyone know of a program that I can use to enlarge (not zoom) them without getting all the blurriness? My regular photo program will enlarge them, but then they are so blurry I can't make them out. Next time, I'm going to play around with the size before I take the photos to make sure they are a size that's legible. There is not just one Hungarian book of nobility, but several very large sets of books. The ones most commonly used are those by Nagy Iván and Kempelen Béla as well as Siebmacher's Wappenbuch, which concentrates on coats of arms. All of these and more are available on a DVD from Arcanum (www.arcanum.hu), although it is very expensive. I understand that you can also access them through a subscription with Arcanum. You might try writing them at the email address listed on their website. Nearly all of them will be written in Hungarian, with the exception of Siebmacher, which is in German. The information contained in them varies a great deal. There might be a brief sentence, perhaps indicating a date and place of ennoblement, or there might be many pages of the history of a family, genealogical tables, and coat of arms. If you provide the name of the family you are looking for, I could tell you if there is a little or a lot there. Janet - ------------------------------- Yahoo! Autos. Looking for a sweet ride?
