    2. Szia List Members! I have been absent for some time and it is good to be back. The last ancestor died in Vas Megye; all but one daughter (oldest) of six came to America ... unfortunately no males to further the lineage. But the bloodline runs on through me and mine. :) While going through my notes, I ran across something I had written several years ago ... "The surname Pányi is associated with Zemplén Megye a former Hungarian County in Upper-Hungary (now in eastern Slovakia) and Nógád Megye which was a former Hungarian County located about 40 miles NE of Budapest." Question ... do I have to join the Slovakia List to further my research? I believe Zemplén Megye was given to Slovakia in 1920... but I am researching from '1820' Vas Megye, on back. What was the date Nógád Megye was dissolved? Can someone please point me in the right direction? 3. Dear Szandi, Nógrád was split in two between Hungary and Slovakia; the southern half is still Nógrád megye, Hungary. Much of my own research lies on both sides of that border. So it really depends on what villages you are looking at. From what I can see, LDS has not yet covered all of the villages in Slovakia but they are continuing to work on it. The records for one village just became available within the last few months. As for joining "the Slovak List," there is so much overlap between Hungarian and Slovak genealogy, some people join everything available for both. The Slovak-Roots mail list on Yahoo is also quite active. More people should look at both, especially since the same issues arise and questions that may be fully answered on one often come up on the other and have to be answered again. It might be more economical if these sources were combined. We can never have too much information, right?
