The Hammond Times Indiana Nov. 25, 1935 Marie ARVAY weds Eugene BENKO at November 23 service Bride is attended by her five attractive sisters as maids When Marie ARVAY and Eugene BENKO were married on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 23, at the Hungarian Reformed Church in East Chicago, Indiana, the Reverand Daniel BODOR of Lorain, Ohio, a personal friend of the bride and groom performed the ceremony. Rev. BODOR was formerly pastor of the East Chicago Church in which the wedding took place. Miss ARVAY is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph ARVAY of 1326 Summer Street. Mr. BENKO is the son of the Eugene BENKO'S who reside in Hungary. The groom is a South Chicago young man. Palms decorated the church where the wedding took place. Effective wedding music selections were sung by Miss Anna FUZY who was accompanied by Miss Bertha KOTZAN. Mrs. Mary TAKAS presided at the organ. Miss ARVAY chose her sister, Miss Susan ARVAY, as her maid of honor and four of her sisters, Betty, Anne, Helen and Margaret who were bridesmaids. Alex BENKO, a cousin of the groom, served as best man. Sigmond TOTH was the usher at the wedding. Mr. BENKO and his bride are having a brief honeymoon and will return to live at 6420 Harrison Avenue in Hammond. The bride is a graduate of Woodward High School in Toledo, Ohio and has her PH. B. degree from the University of Chicago. She was formerly a substitute teacher in the Hammond School system but lately was connected with the Northern Indiana Public Service Company doing office work. Mr. BENKO is manager of the STEVENSON-BENKO wholesale grocers, in South Chicago. He attended Greer College of Aviation and during the war was in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 33rd Division.
