Hi list, I am back after a few years....I wonder if anyone has a clue where I could find where male born in Balovaretz, Hungary, he speaks English and is Russian (race) as listed on manifest put out by the U. S. Department of Immigration and Naturalization Services. The etz does not sound Hungarian or Russian to me, and btw, the males name ends with etz. I did some searches of villages on Wikipedia, but not to be found in Hungary. Any hints appreciated. Grayce in PA
It's almost certain, Grayce, that place name was mis-spelled, for whatever reason. I would tend to concentrate on Bélavézse, county Sáros, district Bártfa, which was populated by Ukrainians in 1910, and had names like Belovezsa, Beloweza, and today is named Beloveza in Slovakia. You can use http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/EIDB/ellisgold.html to just crank in the town's name in different spellings to see what you get.
